CA will be undergoing a review into Australia's performance in the recent Ashes series.

Unfortunately for those expecting to see sweeping changes into Australian after the Ashes debacle , it won't happen.

It will be an internal review-ie little or no changes will be made.

The Australian cricket public has finally had enough of the performance-both on and off the field-of Cricket Australia and the Australian cricket team.

It should be instead an independent review to oversee the whole structure of Australian cricket-Tests, ODI, T20, Sheffield Shield, Club/Grade cricket, administration, selection policies etc.

So, pick a independent panel that should review where Australian cricket has gone wrong in the last 4 years.

My panel:

John Howard (chair)
David Parkin
Ross Smith
Greg Shipperd
Tony Dodemaide
Richie Benaud
Ian Chappell
Shane Warne

Not a bad panel but I think that it should be made up entirely of ex-cricketers and journalists who have covered the game for 20+ years. People who have seen the rise from the mid 80s through the glory years to what it is now.
I would think that all facets of the game would be represented. Steve Waugh for batting, Fat Warne for spin and Lillee for fast bowling and his coaching. Simpson for fielding and coaching. Craddock and Jim Maxwell to add their thoughts. Ian Chappell for his no nonsense approach.
Get them all together and have the selectors explain their decisions. The coach to explain why he should hae a contract extension. Ponting and Clarke to give their version of events. Should make for good reading.

Also James Sutherland and the marketing people should be brought before the review panel and asked to explain 1) playing meaningless ODI matches against Sri Lanka, and 2) having to pick a 17-man squad prior to the 1st Test in Brisbane. England already knew who would be in their Test team 2 months before the Ashes series began!!

Correct. Planning or lack of it was a damning indictment of CA. As for Kyptastic, would be quite humorous having those last two panellists there. Would anything be resolved? Also how is Donald faring with the floods? How will the Royal Blues face up this year?

Donald wasn't too bad - the flood plain stretches the other way to most of the town, so only a few things got covered - the swimming pool, the footy oval, Jeffcott cricket club. We were cut off for about a day and lost power for a day and a half, but we're better off than Charlton (most of their people ended up here). Sounds like you guys will be copping it over the next day or so.

Not sure about the Footy club tbh - I've only been here for a year and have really only been playing cricket and basketball. May have a crack at footy this year, but only if I'm asked.

Back on topic, people like Border, Waugh, Taylor, Hohns etc. would be perfect for the panel - you want people who have an understanding of rebuilding a towards long term success.

Just get Warney to pick the team.
warney would make a fantastic coach in a one on one aspect. but he would be an ordinary selector. his has shown time and time again he is unable to leave personal bias aside. that was never more evident than in his top 50 players he'd play with or against and his rankings of steve waugh and adam gilchrist stuck out luck dog's balls.

it was also only glossed over (at least what i saw) in the press from his approval of michael beer, before he was in the australian XII, that Beer would've been a st kilda teammate of warne's admittedly warne would have played very little club cricket in the last ten years, but he no doubt would've been around the club at some stage and certainly wouldn't hesitate to help a fellow st kilda man out.

anyway, as for this review, i hope the cricket side of things its done by cricket people and cricket people only.

I would have a 7 person panel, bringing together people from all areas, many of whom would not have a cricket background

- Ross Oakley (Administration)
- Ric Charlesworth (Coaching)
- Adam Gilchrist (Recently retired player)
- Robert Craddock (Media)
- Belinda Clark (Women's Perspective/recently retired player)
- Duncan Fletcher (Overseas Perspective - ideas for other nations that can be adapted?)
- Gerry Harvey (Business Perspective - Ways to improve game and to bring money)

Have a NON-VOTING chairman such as Mark Taylor who is on the CA board. ANYONE and everyone can make a submission to the committee.

one thing that needs to be address is the disconnection from the public this team has. it's an image thing which i tend to not be very interested in, but they almost seem to have an us v them mentality with the australian public. i don't think that could be healthy within the team psychie.

you hear loads of little things through the cricketing gripevine which individually don't amount to much, but when they add up and are constant, sound like a lot of disharmony.

of course losing does that i guess. there was a semi love in after the perth test but that stopped about a session into the melbourne test.

- Gerry Harvey (Business Perspective - Ways to improve game and to bring money)

1. source chinese cricketers to replace current faulty australian models (except the Watson 2.0 and iHussey35)
2. costs cut by 90%
3. ?????
4. profit

The Australian team manager could also be brought before the independent review panel and asked to explain as to why he allowed Phil Hughes and Michael Clarke to attend a function hours before the Boxing Day Test against England began.

pretty sure he didn't know. the gist i get is they didn't tell anyone.

steve bernard is finishing after the world cup anyway. that was sorted out a couple of years ago.

new manager is some late 20's, early 30's english accountant or something like that. that'll be interesting :-/

My panel:

John Howard (chair)
David Parkin
Ross Smith
Greg Shipperd
Tony Dodemaide
Richie Benaud
Ian Chappell
Shane Warne

Not a bad panel.

However, my panel would comprise of the following personnel who have no direct or indirect association with Cricket Australia and their respective cricket associations ie Greg Shipperd for example, would have an conflict of interest due to being employed by Cricket Victoria.

My panel is:

CHAIRMAN: Ric Charlesworth
PANEL MEMBERS:
David Parkin
Ross Smith
Trevor Hohns
Barry Richards
Ian Chappell

David Parkin can examine the coaching structures within the Australian side and the respective state sides. Ross Smith can examine the Sports Science and Medical-Fitness conditioning side of Australian cricket. Trevor Hohns and Ian Chappell can look at talent identification and the need for under age cricketers to play against adults and Barry Richards can look at the administrative side of the game.

CA management (James Sutherland, Peter Young and Michael Brown) would have to be accountable to the independent panel. How can Sutherland and the CA Board ignore the opportunity to enlist the help of DK Lillee and Rod Marsh after the 2006-07 Ashes series? We all know Sutherland is a Chartered Accountant who is obsessed with 20-20 cricket.

And, David Parkin and Barry Richards will have a say in the appointment of our next coach with Ross Smith examining the Sports Science Department of the Australian test side.

If Cricket Australia appoint Border, Taylor, Waugh, Sutherland and Hayden to conduct the review, the review would be an utter waste of time. The review would be a window dressing solution to protect the tools (Sutherland, Nielsen, Hilditch and Brown et al) who have stuffed up Australian cricket. James Sutherland has a lot of explaining to do and he just cannot go on 3AW and tell the public that Hughes, Nielsen and Clarke were out of line when they attended morning functions before a test match.

James Sutherland is more worried about the brand of Australian cricket by getting his contracted cricketers to do ads for their corporate sponsors.

THE GOV

In the interim Waldorf and Statler (the two old guys on the balcony from the muppets) should replace the current selectors. Lets face it the current selectors are muppets anyway and at least these two are funny.

Nah, that's not his model.

1. Buy up all the decent cricket grounds in Australia.
2. Rent grounds out to highest bidder.
3. Pretend to be interested in what happens at said grounds.
4. Profit.
