Pies and Bryan

I was just going to write a thread on this... almost puked when I read it.... can't believe we still havn't contracted him... should of done it before we announced Ackland.

ARHHHHHH instead of inboard fighting get our list signed off!!!

Quite clearly the club aren't convinced by Bryan and are probably weighing up whether a discarded ruck in the PSD pick 2, might be around. Pity because he has some good attributes but is a bit lazy as well.

I don't think this will change anything, we'll still go Gibbs.

If we were going to go for Luey, surely Murph, Sticks, etc would have gone to visit him too.

As for Bryan, similar position to Ackland, it'll be interesting to see what he decides. I've got a feeling he'll jump ship if the Pies make an offer. Having said that, he's probably not any further up the pecking order at Collingwood - behind Fraser, with Rocca pinch hitting in ruck, possibly also behind Cloke.

Does this mean we'll be looking at Leuenberger now?

Farout, I dont want Bryan to leave, and really become a star at collingwood.

how annoying.

we cant lose bryan and he probaly knows that now because after the loss of deluca that only leaves ackland and mclaren and maybe a kid whos body wont be ready for week in week out afl footy.the ruck stocks are going to be real low no prendergast either to do a bit of pinch hitting.
conclusion is we just cant afford to lose him we might have to roll over like we had to with thorton
setanta is big enough but having really never rucked he would probaly get murdered in the smarts department and would do his confidence no good

They're welcome to take him as far as I'm concerned. He's of an age where he should of matured and his lazy efforts are unacceptable in this new era of blues.

We'd be better off taking Keating for a year or two and getting him to coach our young rucks like Aisake and whoever we pick up in the draft, at the same time as playing number 2 to Cain.

Agreed...Bryan is very overrated I think. Wouldn't have surprised me if he was delisted if Deluca had stayed. Keating would be a better no.2 ruckman than Bryan or McClaren while Aisake and the ruckman we pick this year come through. Wonder if Griffiths will still be around in the 5th and 6th rounds?

The only reason i'd be concerned about losing Bryan would be our ruck stocks would then be down to 2, with no real back up.

As a player, like a few posters have mentioned, he appears very lazy and i'm just not sure he has the capacity to make it at the highest level.

I'd really like Bryan to stay. Definitely worth keeping for another year. He does have the ability to be an excellent ruck, if he can improve his attitude and intensity a bit. Even with Ackland, there is still plenty of opportunity for Bryan. Two ruckman have left our list (French and Deluca), and only one has been added. Ackland acknowledged, the Blues are an attractive option for a ruck trying to establish himself. We have a very young list with some very talented midfielders, and there isn't a lot of competition for the top ruck spot. Hard to know for sure all the issues. Having said that, he may feel he wants a change. Going to the Pies, however, will be a pretty dead end move given their aging midfield and lack of quality on their list. :)

If Bryan can't come to terms with Carlton after barely deserving a game at a club with weak ruck stocks, then they're welcome to draft a player with that attitude. The alleged subpar attitude to training will be a bonus for the Pies and Nathan will love him.

And I'll gladly take another pick in the PSD or National draft. :) :thumbsu:

The Pies must be pretty desperate if they're considering drafting Preston's ruckman.

If we lose Bryan so be it, either way, whether it be this year or next, we are going to have to get a ruckman that is over 200cm at some stage, which means that someone else will have to go anyway so whether it is Bryan now or someone else later it really doesn't matter. With Aisake as the only 200+cm player on our list we need another big ruck to train for the future, we can not afford to have 3 ruckman under 200cm going forward as we will be exposed in to many games.:thumbsu:

We are. Williamstown are looking for somebody to bolster the list.
If you're looking at him as a short term option he might be worth it since he's an improvement on Fanning and Cameron Cloke and an OK option for the last spot on your list.

He's certainly a lot cheaper than the delisted Clokes in terms of picks.

I think a short term option is exactly what he'll be (if we take him) while our draftee ruck(s) learn the ropes. And a fourth ruck backup.

Deluca would have to be one of the worst ruckmen i've seen unfortunately. He's just a bit too lean and uncoordinated. He was a servicable forward but nothing else so really we're going into the season with similar strength ruck numbers i feel. Add a good prospect in the draft and we'll be ok. Unless we lose Bryan in which case another tall would definitely need to be added.

Bryan is not worth keeping under any circumstances. He's decent around the grounds, but useless as a tap ruckman. As a backup, he's not going to get the game-time to impose himself in a role around the ground, and he doesn't really have the versatilty to help out in another role.

Plus, he's likely to want a 2-3 year contract, and it just seems foolish to me to sign up 3 average ruckmen on long-term deals. Let him go to Collingwood - we won't even know he's gone.

I'd look for next year at Ackland as our primary ruckman, with McLaren as backup. Then use a draft pick on a younger player, and rookie-list at least one, if not 2-3 ruckmen (given that KP players and ruckmen take much longer to develop, this makes sense). That way, we've got a decent rotation early in the year, and 2-3 prospects who can come in as backup later in the year when Ackland inevitably gets injured.

Yeah Deluca was shocking in the ruck. Even when he went forward, all he did was block Fev, Waite and Fishers leads, and then double grab and drop everything that came his way. Think he's made a good career choice. :)

Who cares? He's been given every chance and found to be not good enough at AFL level IMO. Let the Colliwobbles take him if they want him. His only attribute has been his long kicking IMO and nothing else. There are other promising ruckmen in this coming National Draft besides Leuenberger, ie Renouf, Tippett, Marsh, Goldstein that we can pick up with Pick 17 or 19 if we want to go that way?
