Analysis Pies lacking goalkickers

Players yet to debut are often the best talent and the greatest white hope on the team list. Their skills are generally exquisite and their athletic ability is second to none.

There is nothing left in the bottom of our forward's barrel except Karnezis. In the minds and dreams of supporters, the fact that he was injured at the height of his VFL form only added to an irrational belief in his ability to change the course of our season. After the hype generated by a host of posters who climbed aboard the early swell of his over-blown wave, Broomhead's first games were underwhelming. A saviour in these terms is any player yet to debut, or sometimes a seasoned player returning from injury. Imagination distorts our perception of future reality and the player is unwittingly burdened with expectations.

You have an eloquent turn of phrase MM. You remind me of a poster who's username was affiliated with a former Collingwood premiership forward. Could it be you?

Until Reid can show his over his injuries we need to throw money at a forward
2009 was the last time Reid didn't manage 20 games a season, Beams missed most of last season didn't mean we needed to throw money at an a grade mid. What we need to do is get some young players for a depth option. Moore will be one of those blokes I think we may also go for a latter/rookie pick

An article by Rohan Connolly in today's Age. Can't bring it up on google.

'For Collingwood at the moment it's Cloke and Elliott or bust. Over the past four games they've combined for 51% of the Magpie's goals. Roughead and Breust = 35%, Franklin and Goodes = 36%, Westhoff and Schultz = 36%. Our midfielders don't kick enough goals, with Pendlebury and Swan's contributions down this year. Collingwood has had more than 8 individual goalkickers once - against WC in round 10 when it had 13. In that game, Cloke only kicked 1, with the rest kicked by small men. Connolly described the proliferation of small men creeping forward to score in that game as 'like trying to deal with a mice plague'.

We average 7.3 goalkickers per game, which is 15th, better only than Melbourne, Brisbane and St Kilda. Hawthorn average most goalkickers at 9.62.

The article goes into more depth citing individual players whose contributions have either gone up or down. For instance, Sidebottom's suspension, injuries to Reid and Fasolo, along with a list of mids who contribute little to the scoreboard - Thomas, Young, Adams, Macaffer and Dwyer.

Lack of rebound out of the backline is also linked to our thin list of goalkickers, particularly with the absence of Maxwell.

Mods are welcome to merge this elsewhere if the article does not deserve a thread of its own. Are there any suggestions how we can start to rectify this area of our game or further analysis on why it's occurring.
We have an obvious lack of forwards, largely due to long term injury and in some cases, 1, suspension and we have struggled to have a large spread of forwards kicking goals?
Well ****me.
How could we have not noticed this??????/

i reckon none of the crap clubs will be able to bag us if we get a marquee fwd because they know we help pay their bloody salaries. That being said i cant think of a fwd we can go after.

i reckon we should go really hard after fyfe and dangerfield.

Josh Kennedy Jack Riewoldt and Jeremy Cameron would be the only options i could think of

know when josh kennedy is coming out of contract ?

No but with WC going terrible and him being from VIC might be the best option his about 26 which is a good age

He was born in Vic but left early and spent most of his life in Western Australia

Ok fairenough thought it was the other way around
