Smoky I'm quite the opposite.

It was about time we moved him on.

He wasn't capable of coming with us and taking the next step.

Younger players were closing in on him and ready to overtake him. Also, his position in the team was vulnerable.

The only time I felt disheartened was when we moved Taz on.

That was the day that probably hurt many magpie fans simply because we knew Tarrant had the ability, whereas Rhyce was just an honest battler.

I miss him too, saw him mentioned as one of the Swans best trainers in some pre-season related article in The Age a while ago.

He does look quite good in a Swans jumper though.

I'm happy he is gone.

The less dud kicks we have, the better team we become.

I'm still happy with the trade. He could make some appalling skill errors and give away stupid free kicks.

We have quite a few that could take his spot.

It would be interesting if Rhys played on Heath next year when we play the Swans. :D
I think he knew that it was time to go and requested the trade. He stuffed up by being a clown and not a dedicated footballer. He does have ability, but not the discipline.
Was a bad influence on his brother and others at the club.
Wish him well and hope he plays well against every team apart from us. :p

Im just afraid at my one and only Pies game of the year in Sydney he is going to fire. That will hit me. Hopefully Heater can shut him down!

I'm no Rhyce-basher, but one positive that comes of his departure (and Burns and Wakelin's retirement) is that is opens up a spot in the side for the younger players. I almost feel like we have too many midfield types now, I hope Wellingham, Stanley, McCartney etc. can all get some decent game time. And a lack of Wakelin means we can try Anthony and Reid in defense.

Rhyce played for the Pies and was by far not the worst I have seen.
I enjoyed many of his games and he still deserves the respect he earned.

Damn good luck to him at his new club.
The fact he was picked up is proof he was not as bad as some would have us believe.

I'll shake his hand any day of the week.

I only pity him because he will have to work hard to prove himself again but he is probably relishing the new opportunity.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I'm just hoping JA gets switched into defence before its too late because as its been mentioned, he really isn't a natural forward, despite his terrific conversion.

His precise footskills would be invaluable in the back half and also we have far too many forward options as is.

I'm prepared to see how long the JA experiment goes. I just don't want another Jason Cloke scenario.

But, for a very very inexperienced fwd, he may adapt to a real gun fwd when/if he learns the trade. We will have to wait and see if we need him down the back.

He's averaged 2 goals a game in his first season as a natural back I think they should persevere.

We have heaps of third talls down back at the minute, so we can take the risk I reckon.

The Swans did particularly well out of that trade, but at the same time Racer has a known ceiling on his performances and we would seem to think we can replicate what he offered us with the likes of Barham, Corrie and perhaps even Rounds down the track.

It's a shame that Rhyce needed to go to another state to get his head in the right place to play his best football, but I wish him all the best and I hope that he makes the most of his opportunity.

For starters I would like to know if anyone can get me one of those breathalizer ignition things for my computer? 3:35 boxing day morning... like I can remember starting this thread!!!

I was watching the Collingwood Carlton game from early 2008 and rhyce was getting plenty of the ball (not exactly punishing Carlton with his possesions) but did get me reminising about rhyce. I always thought he'd be a Pie for life, unless we did a Cameron Cloke on him of course, but to request to be traded from a team that your father Captained, your Uncle a Premiership captain and brother plays for, a team you barracked for all your life... WTF!

The 1 thing I wont miss from Rhyce was in on field complaining to fellow teammates - if someone made a mistake he would really get into them (to distance himself from the mistake) and as if he would hardly ever make them himself, something I could ony accept from someone like Nathan Buckley to say Rhyce Shaw. I did hate the way rhyce would do this, it really did break team morale down (he did at times have "spoilt brat" written all over him).

Spoilt Brat is how I actually see his wanting out of the greatest football club on earth. In the 2007 finals series to which he couldn't get a start he was getting 30 - 40 possesions for Willy every week. the thing with Rhyce was he has fantastic speed and did play a great run off role that had that edge of ball magnet about him... all traits of a champion but he just couldnt control his brain and his disposal was disgraceful... something obviously the coaching group tried to get Rhyce to rectify and punished him by not giving him a start all the time - something he eventually gave up on.

I think MM was trying to build a champion but Rhyce took his omission from the team as personal not to try and create professional hunger in him to become a champion. Rhyce obviously thinks he will never be a "champion" but a very good to average player.

Good luck Rhyce... I pity your lack of mental strength, and am not looking forward to playing against you next year as that will probably be the only time you can find motivation to do what MM and we all wanted you too.

BTW Rhyce... Heater will absolutely tare you to shreads though!
