wouldn't touch Higgins coming off a navicular, although the flip side is Hird and Matt Egan have both been through it already, so there is that.

We need that creativity and class that he provides, just without the injury history. We do have Merrett, who I really love, I think he's going to be a jet once he fills out, but more can't hurt.

We were raving about Billings last year, I think we need to be just as interested this time around.
Reckon we'd be better served keeping gumby if he wants to stay and drafting one or two of the following as half forwards/crumbers:
(And this is on the premise of some champs watching, scant TAC highlights, talking to a couple of blokes who are involved at the dragons and various mock draft descriptions, I am by no means an expert)

Billings
Garlett (I'd make an exception to the no dickheads policy here)
Kennedy-Harris
Wilson
Neagle
Tipungwuti (sneaky suspicion we might be hiding him)
Willy Rioli (maybe take a flyer on him as a rookie?)
Herbert

There were also a couple who went undrafted last year, not sure what they're doing this year, all i remember was that Warrell (?) had a huge bag of tricks and Brian Coleman-Broom had one of the best turns of speed i've ever seen.

Higgins would be great in our team imo would dominate the half forward line

Dogs fan here guys. What do you thinks a fair trade for gumby?

Cheers
If it were for a draft pick alone I don't think we would accept less than a 2nd round pick.

If I was to trade Gumby to the dogs, I'd look at swapping him for a fringe midfielder with an upgrade of our 3rd round pick. Haven't seen much of the dogs this year, so I can't really nominate a player in particular, other than to say I don't want Veszpremi, due to our "no w***ers" policy.

I don't want veszpremi, although i'd enact the can't play football policy

Christian Howard and swap of 3rd rounders?

Not sure wed give up our 2nd rounder given that it will be so high (around pick 21).

upgrade of second round? Gumby plus ~33 for ~21

It would be disappointing to lose our tall depth, just when we are looking to contend but it's really unrealistic to expect some of these guys to not be looking at other opportunities.

Gumby the poor bugger, has had a run of injuries you just could not script and now that he looks fit and ready to finally contribute, in comes a more talented forward in Daniher to send him back to the twos. It was amazing gesture of him to sign a 1 year contract at the end of last year when others were offering more years and playing time. Send the guy wherever he wants to get a decent career, just get it done, champion bloke but we have better options forward.

Belly seems like an interesting cat. Don't think he would appreciate playing reserves footy that much, which is the attitude you want out of your burly number one ruck. His services will also come at a high cost though, is it a good idea to be paying our 2 best rucks a mill per year between them? While I think Belly and Ryder together give us a competitive advantage over most clubs as ruck / forwards, could we get similar or better production by playing an extra actual key forward, use Daniher / Carlisle for the 20% ruck role and let Ryder play 80%? We also might get a nice pick or a Taylor Adams type as compensation for him.

Great depth is fantastic but in the end, you can't play good footballers in the twos and expect them to be happy with it and sacrifice their own careers.
And who rucks if Ryder is injured or suspended?

Sure lets get rid of one of our only two good rucks on the list, trade in a backup for Ryder and then risk having to use a below par ruckman for games
No, you are quite right. If Belly gets offered twice the money and number 1 ruck role from GWS, we should just explain to him that our ruck stocks are a bit thin and we think it's in his best interest to take less coin and enjoy his time in the VFL....that will convince him:eek:

Should we throw in Carlisle?

Or he could just play his way back into the 22, as he's expected to this week.

Is Milera that good? I'd want something else for him (Pears)

Milera is a good small forward. Better than Davey and TDL, as good as Saad

It's one thing if he wants to leave but I was disagreeing with you over your point that it might be better structurally if he did.

Cool. Currently, I think that our best competitive advantage over everyone barring West Coast and Sydney, is our ability to play Ryder and Bellchambers in their 50/50 ruck forward roles. I have not supported the decisions to not play them together which has been happening recently.

All I was doing was throwing out a few alternatives as to what could / might occur if we traded Belly (and I didn't think it was out of place on the Trade / Draft thread). A couple of clubs have gone the way of bringing in veteran rucks such as Hudson & Stephensen, with limited success of coarse but the ruck role is probably the one where you might be able to get away with it for a shortish period.

When you have a 203cm full forward and Carlisle at around 200cm, you start having some more options on how you want to structure the team. I personally think that in a year or two, maybe sooner, that a structure of 2 genuine tall forwards plus Crameri would be more dangerous than 1 genuine tall, 1 resting ruck and Crameri. And this is just addition by subtraction, what if we were able to draft a quality mid aswell?

Hell no.

Pears for Milera

don't particularly rate milera.

More of a half forward than a FP/Crumber. In other words more a Merrett than a Davey

My personal view of not trading/drafting specialist small forwards aside, and that small forward is the easily the most over rated position in our game.

After watching how we deal at the trade table over the last 20 years there is no chance we would be straight swapping a KPP (pears) for a small forward.
