Just imagine how good it would have been had our picks been intact...
I'm really not sure it was a huge factor tbh.. we will never know..
BUT we were on track to finish, say, 5th for arguments sake..
So we 'would' have had #14, #34, #52 and #70 (leave out round 5+ as I don't think we were going to use it)
I think the club announced earlier it was happy with the list and not looking to trade a lot.. I think there is a strong strong chance that the names Crameri, Gumbleton and Jetta were probably the only realistic chances of leaving regardless.
Crameri was going to dogs.. they were never going to give up #4.. so most likely we would still end up being offered #26..
Gumbleton wanted Freo.. this is probably the only one where we *may* have been able to do a little better.. but probably not.. especially as Freo finished so high.. their picks would have been similar.. so not 'swap' options likely.. probably would have ended up with #55 (or third round) anyway.
Jetta couldn't find a home irrespective of what picks you put with him.
We probably would have offered #52 for Edwards and Aylett as it is materially the same as #48..
Sooooo
We would have come out of trade week as follows:
IN: Aylett, Edwards, Chapman, #14, #26, #34, #55 (which we wouldn't use)
OUT: Crameri, Gumbleton
So again, the 'cost' of the penalties is minimal really.. there is a cost.. but hardly earth shattering and I don't think it made one iota of difference to our approach to the trading period.
