Can anyone imagine how much 'x-factor' we'd have on the list if we had both Edwards and Garlett on the list? Rotating them with each other between a wing and small forward would be...woah!
We won't take Garlett. If I had a house I'd bet on it

Drink!
You both said Garlett, that's the game right?

So really it was a great trading period considering.. our list will be in better shape than when the period started and that is all you can hope for.

Just imagine how good it would have been had our picks been intact...

What do you guys think should be our top priority in the draft: a small forward, a mid (inside or outside), a ruckman or a tall forward?

I'd say small forward/mid (ie JKH or you know who) but some people seem worried about our ruck and key forward depth with Hille, Crameri and Gumby gone.

There's not much in the way of decent KPF's in this draft so we're probably better off waiting till next year for one (or two) if we can, but I reckon Nankervis would be a good fit predominately plays ruck but is a very accurate set shot for goal so we might be able to develop him into more of a forward.

Also, on Edwards, Knightmare, arguably the best talent scout on BF (some would say not arguable) has said the kid is a jet and will possibly break into the seniors for a permanent role in 2014

Shaun Edwards does have serious athleticism and can do damage with that offensive running and ability to take on the game at his height. Also has a bit of arrogance/cockiness so he'll fit right in at Essendon ;)

Essendon want more run and offensive horsepower and Edwards can provide that.

It won't be a complete package but I expect him to get his opportunities.

He's shown signs with GWS but in a stronger team like Essendon has the opportunity to breakout. Whether that be next season or in a later season is up to Shaun but the talent is there and if he puts in the work can make it.

Good pickup in my view at that price and a good fit for Essendon.

Essendon I certainly have as one of the offseason winners. Chapman particularly I like the addition of. Get 10 games from him at the quality he produces and he'll elevate Essendon to what I project a top 4 team next year.

Adelaide seem pretty disappointed they couldn't get a deal done. Hell McLeod was rabbiting on as if he were the next messiah.

I hear he has great foot skills also?

Who would your player comparison be? I'm hoping something similar to Stevie Motlop? :p

Edwards is versatile and can play back flank/wing/half forward/forward pocket. So he has some positional range.

Edwards is above average by foot. Not elite but still good.

His play is similar to Collingwood's Paul Seedsman and Gold Coast's Matt Shaw as a relatively tall but explosive back flanker/wingman but he's still at this stage striving to get to the level of play Seedsman and M.Shaw have shown this past year as guys who are that year more advanced.

Edwards isn't as elusive or as damaging as Stevie Motlop. Motlop I hold in very high regard. He would have been in my All Australian team last year and I'd argue should have been had the selectors not just fill the front half with midfielders.

Thanks KM.

I along with most on Bigfooty, value your opinion highly so it is great to hear you speak well of him.

I think the type of player we need is a Stevie Motlop type to really push us into contention, however these players don't grow on trees unfortunately and you are lucky to find one once every 10 years, so my standards are pretty high.

I like the sound of Edwards though. We need that explosive player who can break lines and carry the ball. We get that from Hibberd and Dempsey but we don't get that through the middle. We don't have midfielders with geniune speed and class so here is hoping that is what Edwards can offer given time and experience.

I like Seedsman as a player so I would be happy with that comparison.

Thanks again KM.

I'm liking the looks of Luke Reynolds - can play as a mobile hit up forward, along the lines of Crameri, and also as a higher half forward who bombs goals from outside 50 and delivers accurate passes to the forwards, which we could really use...maybe someone could finally put it in front of Hurley. Strong overhead mark, deadly left foot, burst of speed. Could be a very handy, versatile addition to our forward line and is likely to be up for grabs at pick 26.

JKH and DG are still my top choices, but I'd be very happy if we chose Reynolds.

From the bits and pieces I have seen he reminds me of Yarran.
I hope it is the good bits and pieces (ball carry, foot skills) and not the bad bits and pieces (sulking, slipping over, half hearted chases) the he reminds you of!

Cheers for what appears to be a realistic description. I like the trade but at the same time was wondering if this guy is so highly rated, then how did we get him so cheaply? Makes more sense now.

Overall I think we've come out of it pretty well. Chappy will make a huge difference if he can just stay fit. If one of Edwards or Aylett make it and one of our draft picks make it we'll be laughing.

I honestly think we should look to the state league for a KPF, someone whos body is already good to go, would make a decent backup for our current KPF, and come cheap to

nuh!

We could pick a ruck men/forward and fill both positions in the rookie draft

What!??! If Pears can get back to his unjury free 2010? season hes def in our best 22. davey/jetta gone imo, time to develop merret/kav more, hell even nick obrien looks solid if not raw.
With both cashmeri and gumby going we aren't so deep in our big man stocks as we would like to be

I agree, Pears to eventually replace Fletcher down back (once he reaches 400 of course), and Hardingham to play whenever he is needed there or up forward.

It has to be Davey ultimately as while I reckon he still gives more than Jetta he is 29 years old and has already clocked in 100 games (f/s therefore enabled).

Lets not get too carried away with Edwards. Some are hyping him like a first round pick. i can not say anymore than Knightmare as he has summed him up but the kid has a way to go despite his ability. Think we have done as well as we can getting him and Aylett with pick 48, now we have to wait and see if it works out.

From the games of seen of Edwards he looks flashy and willing to take the game on, but leaky in defence, but thats something most youngsters need to develop. I said earlier in this thread about the possibility of building up his engine and playing him out on the wing, leave baguley, hibberd, dempsey and hardingham as the small/mid defenders.

Love the thought of dempsey rebouding out of the D50 and hitting up edwards in a paddock of free space,
Or hibberd with lethal kick out of defence.....

On Aylett he was one of GWS pre listed 17 year olds, that there says a lot about his expected potential, but now he has a dodgy knee.

I'm of the opinion both would be decent gets by themselves with pick 48, together... a bonus

And the Melbourne night-club scene would go off! Oh boy oh boy, wowee!

is he is a front running squib ?

Maybe, he has not done to well at GWS. Just go and watch the bits and pieces floating around on the net, not heaps of footage but you can clearly see he is not a contested possession type. Bomber could change that around a fair bit though.

aylett is perfectly healthy. he got injured at a particularly bad time and has since lost form and fallen out of favour. bound to happen. its all about our ability to develop now.

Woke up this morning, we had still traded Gumby. :(

**** everything.

Funny, in all the reviews im reading from people on here and news outlets about our trading period people are saying we did bad because we got unders for players yet these are all the same people saying "hurry the **** up and take this fair deal"

Hi folks I haven't read the thread so no idea how you regard the trade of Gumby to us.I'm happy that we have secured him and am pretty confident he'll be a very positive addition to our list and will be starting 22 once he finds his feet back in the west.
I just heard Cometti refer to him as Spud Gumbleton in a highlights package so I thought I'd ask the people who would know.Is this his nick-name?How come?
Cheers.
