Ben Brown would be a fab rookie pick up.
Saw him around Uni last year, he's an absolute unit.

I'd rather not waste a ND pick on a ruck when we have Ryder and Bellchambers. Rookie someone like Sikora and draft mids and forwards.

Whilst I agree to an extent, what is the plan if both Ryder and TBC go down with short term injuries (3 - 4 weeks) in consecutive weeks? You can't activate someone to replace them so do you throw JD to the wolves, retry the Hooker experiment, get NLM out of retirement?

I'm pretty sure because we only have 1 vet we can promote a rookie at any time (insure if that's the rule though

What's that Sean Gregory? You have OP? Better have 8 weeks off.

Better still, throw the lad in the ruck. He's only 1cm shorter than both Paddy and Hooker, but surely has a better leap than Hooker. That way if he gets snapped in 2 there is a legit reason to throw him on the LTI so the AFL can't try to shaft us for "pushing the limits" of the rules.

Wouldn't playing a 2nd year twig of a defender in the ruck be classed as tanking? Or pushing the boundaries of tanking?

Outside mids/forwards like Merrett aren't our biggest weakness, but you can never have too many good kicks. 26 isn't the greatest pick, but it seems we will have some good options.

Sikora is a glorified Max Bailey, rookie at best. Brown would be better, but would obviously require using a higher pick. looks decent value at 55

Bit of background on big Michael Sikora

late football convert (from basketball) who showed glimpses at Sandringham, followed it up a year later with a 'breakout year' (averaged something like 35 hitouts a game in the seniors for the Zebs) but has always struggled to be anything more than a plodder around the ground. Barely breaks double digits for possessions and for what you would want, even from our last rookie pick, he would need to improve exponentially to even have a chance at AFL football.

As an aside, he did his PCL (in the state game if I may be corrected?) and missed the majority of the year after that, we could be trying to help give him (and our VFL side with his improved fitness base) the best chance towards season 2014 with him training with our AFL guys then so be it.

Thoughts on Apeness and Nankervis?

Apeness seems to be getting the attention lately even though Nankervis has the runs on the board (he was AA ruckmen this year).

Apeness seems your more natural forward who can ruck whilst Nankervis is a bit the other way around (ruckmen who could pinch hit forward - much like our own here).

Nanervis was also that year older playing again in the U18 championships so take that with whatever you will, he was outstanding though, clunking big marks, kicking goals, helping out around the ground. If he were there at our first rookie pick? BANG I would nab him no questions asked.

Yep was in the state game, he's definitely one of the better tap rucks in the VFL, but just doesn't do enough around the ground or up forward to scream 'pick me' (but is still definitely young enough to prove me wrong, he's what, 23? 24?)

At the same time, i think he's actually appropriate cover, because he's a first ruck guy, not a pinch hitter, so if we were to lose one or both of Ryder or Bellchambers, he could come in and play as number 1 ruck with support from a ryder/bellchambers/daniher who would play most of the time in the forward line.

Can't go that wrong with a rookie selection really, but I'd prefer to have a look at Baulderstone

You can always find a place in a side for a good kicker and decision maker. Plus it might reduce any temptation Merrett snr has to move clubs at some point in his career if we get his brother.

I'll agree with this Ben, although, Ben Brown would be worth every cent at 55 (should he even last that long).

The other ruck prospects seem to have a wide, varying range from 40 - overlooked. Surely we could grab any one of Toby Nankervis, Cameron Conlon, Darcy Cameron, Archie Smith in the rookie draft and develop them from within.

Do we have 1 or 2 rookie places that need to be filled? I'm not sure if Johnny counts to filling either Dalgleish's or Hunter's place or he gets his own spot on the list allowing us 2 more rookies

2, Dalgleish upgraded and Hunter gone. Rayner is a cat. B rookie, which is a separate list

Knightmare seems to think that we will still have the chance to nominate Jedd Clothier and place him on our category b rookie list prior to the rookie draft should he not be selected in the National Draft.

Would think we are silly not to entertain the idea.

I imagine he'd be training with us if we planned on it.

guess that would be a good indication.

or

We already know what he brings to the table and he is having some time off before the draft.

*shrugs shoulders* i dunno!

So in other words, you don't agree with it.
