You would think Crouch will inevitably get 1.

Knight and Pods can arm-wrestle over 37 and 39 (or does Callinan retain 37 for the SANFL team?)

What happens if Pods plays his final years of footy in the reserves though.;)

Sneaky!! :)

Then, going to a totally different comp, he would have to get a new number.

It all depends if they're going to give the SANFL Crows their own set of numbers - which I think they should, as they're not part of the Crows AFL list - or start them off from say 50 upwards.

The top up players will have numbers from 50+ I would expect.

All the AFL players playing in the state league would retain their regular number I would have thought.

Yeah, I think the players who aren't a part of our AFL list should have numbers that are theirs alone, so that when someone gets dropped or comes back from injury they can wear their number in the reserves team. It would avoid a lot of unnecessary confusion for everyone involved and make it easier for us viewers in terms of identifying who's who. Like you said, perhaps have the non-AFL listed players given numbers above 50, with the odd exception of those who were former AFL players who would retain their old number, as is the case with Callinan.

It wouldn't really matter if they both had 37, would it, as they play in totally different competitions.
Does beg the question of whether our AFL listed players will use the same numbers in the SANFL as they do in the AFL? It's highly likely that Knight will be playing in the SANFL next year, under Callinan's captaincy.

No law saying that they have to use the same numbers, given that they're totally separate competitions - but you would think that the club would arrange it wherever possible.

Same numbers, get the pride in the jumper etc going from day one. Small thing but as above makes also makes spotting players easier, doesn't complicate things and it only puts a year or two hold.

Also if the numbers are separate does a Walker, Dangerfield or Thompson have to wear another number in the SANFL if coming back from injury.

You would think all the Crows listed players would have different numbers - to go with their locker numbers ... but would not be a problem for the top-up players to use another number by an established Crow player who would be unlikely to play in our SANFL team ... however, still easier if they had different numbers too.

PS. Will #19 be used by a top-up player...

Not the way I see it working out. I would be very surprised if AFL listed players don't use the same numbers in both competitions. They can't double up, in case they have the "established AFL player" spend time in the SANFL while returning from injury or being dropped due to poor form (as happened to several "established" players this year).

Callinan is clearly an exception. He has an existing AFC number, courtesy of his years in the AFL. However, he is no longer on our senior list.

My guess is that he'll keep his existing number, which won't be returned to the pool of available jumpers (for assignment to new recruits) until he retires from the SANFL team.
