So with Menzel, Temay and Graham filling 2,18 and 32 respectively, and 33, 36 and 37 still vacant is there any support out there for those in the 40's - Levi, Ellard, AJ etc coming down into the 30's or do fans think we should leave them out there with 46 etc? Views passed on. Ep

I think they should only come in if:

a) They want to; and
b) They are going to be at the club for a while.

My feeling is that AJ and Ellard are both fighting for a spot on the list next year. Levi and Tuohy could be candidates.

Wouldn't have thought moving from the 40's to a number in the high 30's is that appealing.

A move to a number under 20 is a different story.

Coming in to the 30s from the 40s means little. Walls, Madden, Kouta, Swan McKay .... all have their names on their 40+ lockers. I like it when players earn their names on the locker in the same number.

I like when a player plays all their games in the same number too. .. I think it would be up to the players themselves. .. If one of them has an affinity with an available number, go for it otherwise I wouldn't bother. .. Up to them though. ..

Having said that Tuohy should definitely go 33 for the Irish LoLs. .. ;)

damn you, now I miss Setanta :(

I would have liked Graham to get 33 in the tradition of Houlihan and give Casboult the 32......but as it stands I would like to see Casboult upgrade from 41 to 33. He has a shocking number with no history or tradition. I don't think there is any value in Tuohy upgrading from 42 to 36. Maybe he would like to keep his number now...who knows.
AJ and Ellard probably won't be on the list in 2014.

Personally, I've never seen the point of players changing numbers for the sake of it. You are given a number when you first enter the system, try and make your mark and really make that number your own.

What makes wearing the number 1 for Carlton more prestigious than wearing the number 49?

The exceptions to that is if a player has family ties to a specific number, they should be given the option of taking the number should they want to.

I wouldn't mind seeing someone create some history in #41. The games record holder is Peter Rohde for crying out loud, with 46 games. Reckon Casboult can beat that. Incidentally 40 has no name on its locker but Jamo can be the first this year and 38 has nobody with Garlett about to be the leading games player in that number and only 24 games away from being the first with his name on that locker.

I note that on Blueseum Luke O'Sullivan is accredited with 10 games in the 41 so his final games tally does not count under any number. Ellard is by far the games record holder in #46.

41 was worn by Peter Brown in the 1979 premiership, so the number has some history associated with it, but as you say, there is nothing to write home about as far as games played in the guernsey goes.

I would be unhappy if the club made me change numbers part way through my career. It would be best to make the number your own, regardless of which one it is.

It is also not fair on fans who have gone to the trouble of getting their favourie player number on their jumpers.

Agree, but how many kids have you seen with number 41, 42 or 46 on their back? I think if they have played only a handful of games like Levi you can warrant changing to a lower number. That's why I think Tuohy should probably keep his number now. In hindsight they could have given him 17 when Setanta departed.

Should be up to the players. I do like what Carrazzo has done, and we have a history of players doing that. Since these days low numbers are given and not earned, there seems no point in changing.

To be honest, I'm not sure why the Elevated Rookies didn't get first choice on the Numbers before the new recruits. If they've earned a senior spot, surely they've earned the right to choose before the newbies get theirs?

It appears from the training pics that Cachia has 37 now. So only 33 & 36 are available.

Makes sense as it relates to 7, his SANFL number. ..
