Players' Contract Statuses 2010

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Welcome to the 2010 Contract Status thread, where we track the time remaining on players' contracts. We can add links to relevant articles as proof as we go, and I'll keep editing the OP accordingly. Can I get some help from our intrepid "reporters" to find articles detailing contract signings/extensions please?

For those searching for the 2009 version of this thread, look no further ;).

We have two vacant numbers this year; the departing Rocca's #23 and Pants' #42.

Ok, Matty's worried, and it's not about the Gold Coast, it seems we have most of our talent signed up for them, and the ones we don't will most liekly be secured before the GC has a crack at them.

I'm worried about West Sydney.

Just have a look at the number of players who come out of contract in 2011, the year the WSYD team will be trying to poach talent;

Leon Davis
Maxwell
O'brien
Pendlebury
Thomas
N.Brown
Swan
Anthony (?)
Wellingham (?)
Wood (?)
MaCarthy (?)

The ones with question marks on them I am assuming they are signed up for 2010 and 11, but not 2012 onwards.

To me, the Western Sydney Franchise will "surprise" some clubs in poaching uncontracted players, maybe even more so then the Gold Coast.

Collingwood need to look into the future and start negotiations now on players that are coming out of contract not only at the end of '10, but '11 also.

The playes there I would be Most Worried about are:

-Thomas
-Pendlebury
-O'Brien
-N Brown

Hopefully we sign them up before they can get poached

lets hope Wood gets signed up again real soon... with the prospect of less game time now that he will be competing with josh for a spot and the threat of gold coast making a real play for an afl ready ruckman (id say wood would relish the thought of being the number 1 ruckman) id say we would want to hurry up and secure him... will be entering his prime over the next 2-3 seasons...

also, id be handing out 3 year deal to all of our best young players.... and at least another 2 to our better and elder statesmen.... maybe we can offload corrie to the goldcoast...

^ Nah, can't see those four walking. Eddie can find marquee off-field 'ambassadorships' for Thomas; Pendles has the lure of a captaincy in waiting; Harry came to us - though CFC may wish to support his street kids programs; by then hopefully big Nath will have become a fixture.

Didak will turn 27 during next year - not too old for GC or GWS; Swan is a year younger. Unsure what is unsettling big Trav or when his contract is up, but these three probably need the closer scrutiny?

Same here if Wood stays in the VFL and he does not Sign and No just the GC a Few Teams would trade for him(Or Push him into the ND), That he would play as the Number 1 Ruckman and that is the Reason why he agreed to trade to us in the 1st Place.

I don't want to lose him because I think this could be his Break-Out Season

The WS18 side has two years in which to sign out of contract players, ie. 2011-2012. Nearly every player in the competition will come out of contract in that time if not given extensions beforehand. It's a problem, but we're no more at risk than anyone else.

Also Dave, Rusling was given a one-year extension on his contract which was to end in 2009 as I understand it. So we're just seeing if he can get through a season without snapping in half and he wouldn't be highest on our list to re-sign yet.

I'm most worried about losing Pendlebury. It would be a dagger through my heart if he ever left us. Not that I think he would jump ship easily or anything like that, but he would be our biggest loss.

Pendlebury wont leave

Pendlebury wont leave

I'm not implying that he will leave. All I'm saying is that he'll probably be the big one from our club they would chase. I can already imagine the media hype that would ensue.

they hyped buckley and port which meant he got booed half of the 96 season

Let them hype it, he still wont leave

At this point there isn't exactly any reason to be concerned, it's all pretty standard contracting stuff anyways. Of those who are out of contract in '11, I couldn't fathom why any of them would head over to GWS - even for a pay rise. I think we've got an excellent leadership group down there at the moment, and you'd be out of your mind to leave Collingwood in the next 3+ years.

Wont make me happy to lose our best player, but then again the GC supporters may not be so vicious

But it isnt limited to half of LSD, its also the majority of Collingwood supporters on all BB especially Nicks who all bag the crap out of him week in, week out for his kicking or attitude or any other stupid thing they can think of. It will make the thousands of Collingwood fans at the ground who abuse him every week happy

Most Collingwood fans cant accept he is a good player who is vital to Collingwood and they cant wait to stick the boots in every week he doesnt kick 5 goals
