It's been mentioend today that Essendon has delisted :

Denham
A couple of those are retirees obviously. We only had a list of 40 in 2000 (2 players short), and this brings it down to 34, meaning we can draft 4 players.

Sorry. This was already mentioned in more detail above. Prior was traded, of course. I wasn't aware of the promotions from the rookie list.
Of course we all must remember, that during 2001, players can go on the long term injury list paving the way for a rookie to be elevated, so the lists are ever changing.

and would you have kept him had he wanted to stay at essendon?
i think he was probably one the best kicks at essendon and had pretty good skills

Well, it's a tough question. I think if he really wanted to stay he would have been able to stay, but he gets more of an opportunity in Perth (his home town) with the Eagles.
He is a great kick, but he a bit older than a lot of our other fringe players, which was against him.
We also have a heap of medium sized players similar to him which counts against him too.
The trade is only a success, if the number 27 pick we got for him turns out to be better value than Prior over is career.
So, whether it was a good decision to trade him, will be found out in a few years with draft pick number 27.
