Just a quick question regarding VFL teams

Ever since i was a lil boy i had a dream of playing AFL, well **** happend and i didn't end up playing footy for the whole of yr 12, I went to Europe for a year with friends> I'm back and i consider myself still young (19) and still have the desire to play AFL, though being a vic boy the VFL was the best way. Just wondering what the best way is to picked up by a VFL side. do i just turn up for pre-season or do i have to call the club before hand?

Hope u can help

Pretty sure you just turn up for pre season training, but I don't really know, but lots of people here do. Hope you get into a team :thumbsu:

Its as easy as ringing up the club and finding out when their pre-season starts, and asking to come along to try out.

Would recommend Port Melbourne and Frankston as stand-alone clubs who have a larger VFL list.

Port Melbourne Football Club
PO Box 247, Port Melbourne 3207
Phone: (Office) 03 9646 2094
(Mobile) 0407 964 620 (Barry Kidd)
Facsimile: 03 9646 3895

Frankston Football Club
Post :: Young Street (P.O. BOX 354), Frankston, VIC 3199
Phone :: 97837888
Fax :: 97832333

I would also suggest Port Melbourne and Frankston because of no AFL listed players down there. Hopefully Frankston not too far for you to travel has can be a hassal to drive down Nepean and back again (dependong on where you live)

thanks i was wondering about this aswell

If you're in the west. Werribee are aligned with the Bulldogs. They start pre season in about two weeks. Call the club on 9741 6688 for inquiries.

yeah they have always been an option, i would imagine it would be hard to get in though with all the dogs players and how they have about 3 teams in each age group though

and do they start their pre season is that under 16?

so port melbourne have an under 16 side?
Doubt it, though you could try out for seniors/reserves it you really want to. That is a major weakness of the VFL, they need an Under 16/17/18/19 or whatever comp.

Sorry.. my mistake, I meant no maximum (duh!)

Yeah the VFL Senior clubs recruit players over the age of 18, although AFL drafted players taken at 17, can play in the VFL.

The TAC U18 sides will most likely be formally aligned as part of the 2008 review of football. What this will mean is U18 players will be eligible to play for their aligned Senior club to bring it back in line with the WAFL and SANFL.

The VFA/VFL disbanded their U18 competition in the mid 90s.

Don't you have to have a good year of park footy and they chase you? Mate, instead of going to the Dolphins have a crack with a good local footy club like Seaford and Mt.Eliza. See how you would go in the 1s.
Good Luck

Good Luck
Moronic.

Why wait to be chased.

Why not put your hand up to try and play at the highest level you can.

Sit back and play "park footy" and you can pretty much forget about stepping up.

Mate, how much footy have you played? Because you have no idea, if they think your good enough they will CHASE you. If you are a gun at "park footy" then you might be able to take the next step, but there are alot of good players that havent had the opportunity to play VFL footy

It goes both ways tigerman. The good 'park players" get offers to play VFL and the people slightly below that level can put their hands up for a spot on the list during preseason training.
