Definitely a fools game, although I am guilty of having a bit of fun with them here and there.

Anyway. Does anyone know if the progressive jackpots (zorro link, or the trains for example) just stop going up when they reach a certain amount and the jackpot stays static at say 50k for a few months until it randomly pays out, or if they "have" to pay out before they reach a certain amount?

Cheers dude, that's what I thought. I won 1500 on outback jack by being patient for a month or two, waiting until one reached like $1490 then I put through like $150 and sure enough just as the progressive jackpot clicked over 1500 I won the lot.

There's a zorro machine where the grand jackpot is a progressive, and at like $49,700. It's been slowly going up from about an initial 25 grand for the last 4 or 5 months. I'm thinking about putting a fair chunk through because I'm pretty sure it's going to pay out before 50k

Rarely play, but when I do I seem to be lucky.

First time when I was 18 put $5 in and won about $250. Had to ask the bloke feeding $50 notes into his machine next to me how to get it out. He just glared at me.

Then last week hadn't played for a good 12 months, $10 in, for some reason it took $3 per spin. First spin in got 5 free spins, won $75, took the money out and bolted. :thumbsu:

Stupid machines.

This.

I am not really a gambling person to begin with, but I'd rather play something more "fun" like roulette or blackjack. Not that I'm good at either of these. :D

Pokies just seem so mindnumbling BORING- no human interaction. I feel quite sorry for those addicted to them.

Only play the pokies when I'm with friends and we are really bored. Might even play the odd Keno game.

Favourite machine is the Red Baron. Dominated that machine won about $400 from it!

Am/was quite addicted to them

Though was a bit addicted to other stuff which didn't help

Don't live in Australia at the moment so don't have the temptation at the end of the street. in the pub. or at level 2, Docklands.

Aren't those $50,000 linked to loads of machines? I've heard of gangs of people club together when the jackpots reach over $49,000 and feeding the machines to hit it.

I work a prominent gaming room here in melbourne, and yes, they are a fools game, will gamble once a month at the most myself. it does pay the wages though

There is no set limit on zorro, Big Red, Cash Express etc, however, usually a machine will pay at a certain time, usually based on the money going in. Whilst people see that amount, you have to remember, every game you play, it is your own money going to the jackpot, so, it will never pay if the money isnt there.

Wild Cash (tabaret Venues) and George's Gold (Tatt's venues) and Digger's Gold (RSL's) do have limits, usually decided by the venue (RSL's is linked through all RSL's in the state).

Also, off topic, however, you will notice in venues over the next 2 months, that the maximum bet is being reduced to no more then $5. and in 2012, Tabaret and Tatt's lose their license, at which point, all venues will own their own Machines, rather then a lease/renting scheme which is currently in place.

yes, they are, "hyperlinked"

and yes, they do, people who work in the venues refer to these people as "syndicates"

Never planning on playing these silly machines.

The amount of stories I've heard of families being torn apart via addictions is horrendous.

I mean, The Whitlams made a very poignant song on the matter.

Last time I played I was blind drunk at a Hawthorn V Collingwood game at Victoria Park with a mate.
Got into the Social Club and blindly started pouring our loose change in.
Buckets of coins came out I filled both pockets, mate kept wanting to gamble ,I gave him 1 pocket full,he was too blind to realise I had another pocket full.
We caught a cab home I paid gave him a big handful of coins ,the next morning I still had $30 odd bucks in my pocket
It was a good day Hawks won too:thumbsu:

Basically they where good in the old days, they used to give you a cheap meal and cheap beer when on fishing holidays in NSW.Not through winning on them, but by going to Rissole Clubs and wearing long socks

Ridiculous machines.

I play poker/gamble on the horses, but at least that involves a bit of skill.

I don't know why people pour thousands upon thousands into a machine that is all luck. I don't even know how they work, I might put $5 in now and again and if I win, I have NFI why.

I hate how dependant our society (not to mention our football clubs ) have become on the tax and income from these machines.

I accept that it is mostly the users responsibility to control their own spending, but they are so widely available in society if you do have a problem it must be almost impossible to avoid.

I think I mostly have a problem with there being poker machines in almost every pub and club. Maybe the problem gambling could be better controlled if there were one or two central places for gambling in every state. I am aware that country areas would object that the machines would all be in the city, but maybe there could be compromises made for bigger cities (Geelong, Ballarat etc.)

However, now that society is so reliant on the taxes, it will never happen.

Just on the Whitlams... interview with Tim Freedman and acoustic version of Blow Up the Pokies (terrible interview actually, very strange - makes you appreciate good interviewers)

Ill put $10-20 in maybe once a year and that will be it. Won $300 the first time I played. I know people that put in a couple of hundred a week and I think its a complete waste.

so far this is just a "i hate pokies" thread, get over it, sure, they are everywhere, but they saved victoria, and problem gambling isnt as big of a problem in the suburbs as people make out, only at Crown Casino is there a problem, this is the place where they have a private area for the high rollers, and machines where the maximum bet is $90 per bet!

What he said.

I want to know why the f*** im winning when im betting. A computer generated luck machine, i'd rather take my chances with something i can somewhat control, betting on sports.
