With the talk of Polak maybe changing clubs next year I would certainly love to have him on board the Blue bandwagon! What would you guys think would be a fair trade if it was to eventuate? Cheers SM

He is contracted therefore he has to agree to the trade(i think)

his biggest asset is his marking but for one reason or onother they are not sticking and when he isnt taking marks he is virtually useless imo

A possibility, Freo would no doubt want Carltons first pick or at worst a first round pick however, I am not convinced that Pagan would be sold on him and I am not convinced that Polak could handle the Pagan doctrine.
One loose cannon on your list is enough anyway!

Pick 4 from the blues would be nice but I can't see Pagan trading an early pick after their recent draft restrictions. Why do people consider Polak a loose cannon? He had a couple of beers at a 21st when he was recovering from the flu.

smthomson- there is already a thread about Polak on the Freo board which was started by another carlton supporter.

You're right, a contracted player has to agree to be traded. The saints were keen on Croad at the end of '03 but he said he only wanted to play for Freo or Hawthorn, so the deal was made with the hawks. Normally it is easy to convince a player to be traded though. If Freo think that it isn't working out with Polak they will tell him that he will struggle for a game next season when Hadrill returns. If Polak thinks he will be spending the season in the WAFL he will agree to be traded.

No.
Woewodin was furious at Melbourne trading him to Collingwood. Croad ditto to you guys.
Unless the rules have changed it is like being a slave in the US deep south pre the Civil War when you are still in contract.
It is when you are at the end of your contract you have a say. You can do a Nick Stevens, refuse to work with your club and go into the PSD. Or you can do a Josh Carr/Jarred Schofield and work with your club for a mutually advantageous trade.

You have to agree to a trade, but if clubs want to trade you they put a spin on it so that it sounds like you want to go whether it's your decision or not. Croad wasn't happy he was being traded but had to accept the fact he was no longer required at hawthorn. Port received nothing for Schofield, we picked him up in the preseason draft.

Players only have a say if it is in the first year of their contract then both parties need to agree on a trade (Heffernan Rule). If a player is in the second or third year of his contract the club can trade him as Melbourne did Woewodin. When a player is out of contract he can elect to go into the the pre season draft as did Schofield.
Now are we all totally

I think you'll find that Woe Woeful was told in no uncertain terms that, he would not get a game at Melb. He was on $500K a year, no other team could afford him and Melb would pay half his salary for the next 2-3 years only if he went to Collingwood.

Woeful could not categoricaly be forced to go to Collingwood, but it was pretty close to it as Melb held all the spades.

Another scenario: Hawk's Holland to P.Adel in their 1st year, he had a few years left on his contract. Hawks wanted the Compensation Pick at any cost and told Holland, deal has been agreed to, you are going to P.Adel, sign on the dotted line.

He told the lot of them to get stuffed, and "I aint going anywhere, shove it".

As he refused to sign anything, Hawks couldn't force him to go. Hawks could have bluffed and said, if you stay, you will never get a regular game again. Holland could have called the bluff and said, well thats fine by me, I don't mind getting paid $400K a year playing VFL reserves.

Sorry, I totally forgot that. I thought we negotiated his move, albeit not for draft picks or players. Just a courtesy to a fondly remembered player.
Are you sure it was PSD? Why did he not end up at Richmond, Carlton etc?

That would be the implication :D
However it all comes back to me now. His father said if anyone outside WA picked him Schoey would quit. There was a very small dust-up about whether this was draft tampering. Which of course it was, but no-one cared.

So true his marking is his only strong point after that its downhill.

Maybe he can catch up with his mate at the Hawks- croady.

Swap Chance Bateman + second round pick for Polak

We need speed in the midfield

Few things that cant be taught in football.
These are to know where to be for the ball
Marking
Pace

Kicking, hand passing etc all come with practise
Take a look at tredrea couldnt kick for ******** at the begining of his career, now hes a great kick.
Polak has the raw ability to be a champion, not a good player a champion.
His value lies in that.

Come on, there's obviously a bit more to it than that. Especially if the rumours about a number of senior players demanding the coach take action against Polak (leading to the 1 game suspension) are true.

There is a lot more to it than that I hear but the guy just turned 21.

How would you feel trading Polak to Carlton for a pick that turns out to be a dud, and he does a McPhee, and become AA at 23. And Polak has shown way more potential than McPhee did.

The only guy at Carlton I would consider would be Bentick and he is a lifetime Blue's fan.

The players thought the one match suspension should be enforced because it was the senior players who wrote the players code of conduct. It would be a waste of time putting a policy in place if it isn't going to be adhered to.

If Polak was traded for a pick in the first half dozen it's unlikely the player we pick up would be a dud, especially with the 3 talls at the sharks all playing well. Drafting is very scientific now and few players taken early are duds. Hopefully Polak stays but if an early pick is offered he might leave.

Polak belongs at Fremantle.
And Bentick for Polly, get real mate.

Pretty crap, but I don't know or coach Polak so I can't comment on how much of a headcase he is. Nor how much influence he has over the younger players.

Consequently I can't really say whether trading him is a good or bad thing.

yeah pick 21 and a 24 year old speedy midfielder with good skills 4 polhack. i doubt it

try pick 21 and thats it :D

Great to have a KPP developing on the list. No need to even think of getting rid of him. He will only go if we have an offer that is too good to refuse. Which would be nice. The only other possibility would be if he and the Coach have irreconcillable differences, and by the the support CC has shown him, that ain't the case.

You blues supporters are unbeleivable your trying to buy Polak from Freo and sell Whitnall to the dogs.

I can assure you his lack of discipline extends to a bit more than a couple of beers at a 21st. Having said that I wouldn't mind if the Eagles took a punt on him, he has to grow up sometime.
