  • EXCLUSIVE: A SENIOR police officer berated Collingwood bosses for suspending Alan Didak and Heath Shaw.
Paul Ritchie, sergeant at Boroondara, the police station that investigated the Shaw-Didak drunken car smash in Kew, sent the email to the club's chief executive.
The passionate Pies supporter said the decision to ban the players "virtually ended any chance we have of making a real impact in the finals this year".
Sgt Ritchie sent the email to Pies boss Gary Pert just four days after his officers attended Shaw and Didak's car accident scene in August. Sgt Ritchie did not attend the scene.
"This has unfairly and prematurely ended the season for the rest of the playing group, the club's long suffering members and supporters and, just as importantly, the club's sponsors who want the team to win . . . to justify the large sums of money they pump into the club," he said.

The senior officer also defended Didak, who fled the scene of the car smash then lied to the AFL club about his presence in the car.
"Alan has attracted bad publicity for all the wrong reasons, yet has NEVER been convicted of traffic or criminal offence in a court, unlike a lot of other players . . . playing in AFL clubs," Sgt Ritchie wrote.
Sgt Ritchie, who has held his rank for more than 12 years, lobbied Mr Pert that the players' cover-up was sticking to the values of the Magpies anthem.
"As for their lying . . . Shaw thought he was protecting Didak for being out drinking and Didak didn't want to put Shaw in for lying to you, so he went along with the story.
"I think 'mateship' is the terminology -- Side By Side We Stick Together," Sgt Ritchie wrote.
Sgt Ritchie yesterday said he wrote the email as a Pies fan and club member -- not as a police officer.
"The idea was to get the players back on the field before the end of the finals. It didn't happen so now put it to rest," he said.
Sgt Ritchie distributed the email to a third party, but yesterday said he asked that person to show it only to "a couple" of Collingwood people.
In the email, Sgt Ritchie offered to mentor Didak or "watch him", rather than see the player traded to another club. Mr Pert confirmed he received the letter.

Now they come out and back the players bloody hell thats great just 2 months to late!!!!!!

The police are suggesting he has had a hard time because they haven't convicted him of anything?

These are the same police who couldn't convict high profile underworld figures for shooting people in public! They are useless.

Didak was involved in a publicly known drunken slanging match with his missus bringing bad publicity to the Club.

Didak was arrested and locked up in the drunk tank for abusing a taxi driver after getting smashed the night before Collingwood'sw best and fairest ffunction.

Didak admitted to getting in a car with a "random" stranger who took him out to Campbellfield Hell's Angels (why was this copper?) and admitted observing the driver shoot at a police vehicle and failed to report it. He could have had charges put on him for that alone, and he would have had to plead guilty.

Up until this point, Didak has had a couple of slap on the wrist fines for a bloke pulling in $400K per annum.

Then he admitted to going on a three day bender after three straight losses, got into his mate's car who he knew was over the limit, and then lied to the club about his presence.

Have there been any publicly quiet incidents Mr Officer?

Now, this oinker may be thinking that we were harsh because of limited convictions in a court of law, but does that mean discipline in the work place shouldn't happen without a court conviction? What about kids at home or at school? What a crock of shit!!

Didak's last punishment was harsh, but it was fair in context of him screwing us over four times.

Following this, we went from a losing streak to winning form, and unleashed Chris Dawes and John McCarthy, as well as refinding Shannon Cox.

This short isghted copper should stick to catching criminals, because Lord knows the police are pretty useless at that!

I tell you what stinks.

When you wake up and go outside to collect your herald sun that gets delivered. It's all rolled up in blue plastic and all you can see is an image up the top of Didak and the word cops before opening it.

Good way to start the morning with a heart attack.

I know what you mean, almost collapsed on the spot, was thinking "not again".

Then you read the article and its a Collingwood supporter who had a go at the club, who just happens to be a cop.

Bloody hell, Herald Sun, that was pathetic.

This thread should be shut down immediately. The Didak and Shaw issue has been dealt with and dragging it up will only raise the possibility of dissension amongst the ranks.

It has been scientifically proven that suspending players for misbehaving will deliver a premiership.

It is bordering on insanity to suggest that suspending good football players may affect the on field performance of a football team. I am worried about the consequences of quoting the thoughts of a policeman who believes other wise. Please delete this thread.

Not sure what to do about the Herald Sun. I need to re-read Mein Kampf.

Just shows right anything about Collingwood and It will be Front Page News:rolleyes:

That cop is in a world of trouble I'd say.

Not if he wrote the letter as a Pies supporter. I would doubt his letter contained references to him being a copper. He wouldn't be that stupid. I'll bet he just wrote it as an angry supporter (who just happens to be a copper)

Offering to mentor Dids and keep an eye out for him??? There is no doubt he confirmed in the letter he was a Seargent... otherwise, it would have as much credability as me offering to mentor Dids as someone who's a General Manager a pub!

so this is what our cops do all day is it?

this copper should shut the **** up and go out and try and stop people getting stabbed, beaten and shot around the CBD on a saturday night

what a w***er!

Well, that's what we, as a society, get when we give our law enforcers any personal time and access to a computer.

Obviously, they need to be fighting crime 24/7 without any care for the outside world.

They certainly get paid well enough to not only take on a dangerous job, but to also forsake all interests, hobbies and passions.

Is this pr!ck related to the pr!ck cop that keeps sending me speeding fines :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Rubbish story and yet it gets a run on page three.

The Herald Sun is a piece of shit.

And then it takes till page 15 before you notice Steven King (St. Kilda) is being sued for assault.

Confusing......well not really.

Very well said. The fault with this "story" is that this clown of a journalist thought it was newsworthy.

Law enforcement officers and other Government representatives are also private citizens. The good ones and the bad ones! :D

And they're entitled to express their own opinions on matters such as whether a footy player gets to play finals or not.

He's a Collingwood member. He pays his money, and if he wants to write a letter to Perty, voicing his displeasure with Collingwood's decision-making, good luck to him. We wouldn't be the mighty Collingwood footy club if our members couldn't say what they think. :thumbsu:

Leave the bloke alone, hes just a supporter with opinions. How many emails do u think the club got from supporters about the incident? This is probably far from the stupidest one and you give him shit.

He has valid points so don't give him shit because some journo made it public knowledge.

i was about to say that! i thought the name rings a bell, i've received many letters from this guy. having said all that, i really should be more responsible and slow down and stop giving them a reason to generate additional revenue.
