Well he isn’t playing well. I’m not writing him off just yet.Any green shoots, or is Berry looking like a total bust?

What’s Berry kicked at either level for the whole year? 4, maybe 5 goals. Maybe he just can’t kick goals or get the ball in a way that he can take a shot. He was more dangerous in that one preseason game against the Crows than the rest of his games combined. Our small forwards on occasions could have had a ping at goals but were obviously instructed to pass to either Lord or Finlayson. By doing that there were some unnecessary turn overs.

Not sure why we are talking about Berry's goal kicking, he's supposed to be a winger, not a forward.
SNAPSHOT: “A crafty forward with clinical finishing skills and a happy knack for consistently hitting the scoreboard with great variety.” – Michael Alvaro
Joe Berry has catapulted himself high up draft boards on the back of a stellar top-age campaign, but that is not to say he hasn’t done it the hard way. The skilful forward came from outside the Vic Country talent hub into first round contention this year, kicking goals for fun and topping the charts at the Under 18 National Championships. Needless to say, he strung together plenty more accolades along the way.
what?????Not sure why we are talking about Berry's goal kicking, he's supposed to be a winger, not a forward.
Absolutely was drafted as a forward. The winger talk only started when he couldn't find the goals after arriving here.

Joe Berry Draft Profile
Murray Bushrangers forward Joe Berry kicked goals for fun in 2024, accelerating up draft boards with his consistently crafty performances.central.rookieme.com
Don't care what he was drafted as, he's a winger. His best games were in pre-season when he used his pace up and down the ground.what?????
he was drafted as a forward
but i do agree he is a more suited winger
We think hes a winger. The club brought him in to be the small forward answer. Not sure why we are talking about Berry's goal kicking, he's supposed to be a winger, not a forward.
Definitely drafted as a small forward, at the moment he’s more suited to being on the Overland back to Melbourne.what?????

I don’t think Jack is dead.I listened to Hartlett’s 3 quarter time address to players. Expected him to try and fire up the players. But it lacked any real fire, he was just softly spoken. Jack Cahill would have turned in his grave
Fitness guy has to go.How can we not win a last quarter against a sanfl team?
There are plenty of examples where a player is recruited in a certain position and then end up being something else. Not saying if Berry will make it or not though. We think hes a winger. The club brought him in to be the small forward answer.
Horrendous recruiting to have a kid you picked for a certain role, already being played in different positions half way into.his first year.
Just shows they got it completely wrong, and/or had not done anywhere near enough work on him. Hopefully will still develop to play a role like a Sinn into the future, but for a 1st rounder that we rated so highly he's a big disappointment.
Our list management and recruitment staff dont get anywhere near the criticism they deserve at times.
Relax he is a 2nd year 19 year old playerHe’s been utterly useless.
How could you forget about the Mac N Cheese’s blocks and a few tackles a game. Excellent small forward. But we gotta have another dip at recruiting a proper specialist small forward. We got Rioli at AFL level, and Charleson leading the goal kicking at SANFL level and then everyone else is not up to it. (I consider Richards a fwd flanker).

Great analogy. Exactly the player he should be modelling his game on.Bailey showed Berry last night how to play as an effective small forward who gets up and down the ground and kicks goals.
Now Bailey is 25 years old in a terrific side so it's not going to happen overnight but that's what he has to aim for.

Id say there hasn't been that many 1st round kids, selected for their ability to perform a specific role, that have been moved out of that in less than half of their first season. There are plenty of examples where a player is recruited in a certain position and then end up being something else.
