Our small forwards on occasions could have had a ping at goals but were obviously instructed to pass to either Lord or Finlayson. By doing that there were some unnecessary turn overs.
What’s Berry kicked at either level for the whole year? 4, maybe 5 goals. Maybe he just can’t kick goals or get the ball in a way that he can take a shot. He was more dangerous in that one preseason game against the Crows than the rest of his games combined.

Barrett too. For a fast player, got caught a helluvalot when tried to break toward goal today.

Neither are looking better than Anasta or Charleson. Horrifying.

7 SANFL games 3 goals, 5 of those games goalless

7 AFL games. 1 goal

Not sure why we are talking about Berry's goal kicking, he's supposed to be a winger, not a forward.

Absolutely was drafted as a forward. The winger talk only started when he couldn't find the goals after arriving here.

SNAPSHOT: “A crafty forward with clinical finishing skills and a happy knack for consistently hitting the scoreboard with great variety.” – Michael Alvaro

Joe Berry has catapulted himself high up draft boards on the back of a stellar top-age campaign, but that is not to say he hasn’t done it the hard way. The skilful forward came from outside the Vic Country talent hub into first round contention this year, kicking goals for fun and topping the charts at the Under 18 National Championships. Needless to say, he strung together plenty more accolades along the way.

what?????

he was drafted as a forward

but i do agree he is a more suited winger
Don't care what he was drafted as, he's a winger. His best games were in pre-season when he used his pace up and down the ground.

We think hes a winger. The club brought him in to be the small forward answer.

Horrendous recruiting to have a kid you picked for a certain role, already being played in different positions half way into.his first year.

Just shows they got it completely wrong, and/or had not done anywhere near enough work on him. Hopefully will still develop to play a role like a Sinn into the future, but for a 1st rounder that we rated so highly he's a big disappointment.

Our list management and recruitment staff dont get anywhere near the criticism they deserve at times.

yeah true

i liked his game vs essendon when he got up the ground alot, his disposal by foot was very poor but his run and carry i enjoyed, i wonder what Carr thinks regarding this.

There are plenty of examples where a player is recruited in a certain position and then end up being something else. Not saying if Berry will make it or not though.

But we gotta have another dip at recruiting a proper specialist small forward. We got Rioli (30 years old) at AFL level, and Charleson leading the goal kicking at SANFL level and then everyone else is not up to it. (I consider Richards a fwd flanker).

How could you forget about the Mac N Cheese’s blocks and a few tackles a game. Excellent small forward.😏🤣

Something I also don't get is why we went with 1 key back today. McLennan was solid but Weidemann would have been better for balance and would have freed up Lai even more.

Bailey showed Berry last night how to play as an effective small forward who gets up and down the ground and kicks goals.

Now Bailey is 25 years old in a terrific side so it's not going to happen overnight but that's what he has to aim for.

Great analogy. Exactly the player he should be modelling his game on.

Was a time wouldn't have missed this game.

At home traditional rivals great Alberton atmosphere.

Richardson and Koch have put absolutely no effort into the magpies and Hinks has taken care of the football culture.

Useless sacks of crap all of them that give not one iota about this club.

They don't care and sadly I now don't either. Not sure when I will be back to Alberton again.

Give me a realistic chance to be part of or influence meaningful change that won't be ridiculed or white anted by the club or its media influencers and I am there in a heartbeat.

We are already aware Berry is not currently up to it, so i wouldn't be surprised that he hasn't figured it all out in a few SANFL games..

He'll be a work in progress, give him this year as a grace period..

He's 18 years old..

Good comparison, Zac Bailey only kicked 11 goals in his first 27 games too.. something to be said there about giving these guys some time to settle into the life of an AFL footballer

They are a similar size and going by Berry's highlights this is the sort of game he wants to play.

Hopefully Josh and whoever is the sanfl coach next year give him this role and let him work on it.

Id say there hasn't been that many 1st round kids, selected for their ability to perform a specific role, that have been moved out of that in less than half of their first season.

To me it screams poor scouting by recruiters.
