Tosser Poor Chad, he just wants to be left alone...

Regarding his trade period move to Hawthorn from the Power, Wingard explained why he can now simply put all his energies into what happens out on the ground.

“All the distractions off field at Port Adelaide with all the players and everything that was going on, just to get the space in my head free again and all I have to worry about here is football, which is nice,” he added.

“Training out at Waverley and not getting hassled by media all the time is really good.

“Clarko and Hawthorn have been really good like that and all we have to do is focus on footy.

“That’s all they want you to do, is play good football, and everything else will come into plan.”

He continued: “It’s a massive fishbowl (in Adelaide).

“There’s only two teams to worry about and there’s not much other sport going on in winter.

“When you come to Melbourne there’s so much going on here. 10 teams to watch over and plenty of news to go around.

“Sometimes in Adelaide, they’ve really got to make up the news because there’s just not enough for people to want to read.”

Chad doesn't like the media, yet I have seen more articles and tv / radio interviews featuring Chad in 1 week then I have in 2 years..

The media here do suck though

Lol, this.

I love when an ex-Port player says something that 90% of people on here agree with but we all jump on because of who said it. Like when people were furious about Jared Polec criticising our 2018 gameplan.

I listened to the interview live. The exerpts above make it sound like he was having a massive sook about Port. He wasn’t. He was asked some questions and he answered them in isolation honestly. He doesn’t sound bitter or to be carrying any ill will towards the club at all. He freely admitted he probably got a bit too comfortable at Port and that in the end a parting of ways was probably in everyone’s best interests.

I still love Chad.

I don’t mind him criticising the media. I want to know what he was saying here:

“All the distractions off field at Port Adelaide with all the players and everything that was going on, just to get the space in my head free again and all I have to worry about here is football, which is nice.”

What off field distractions were stopping him from just playing football? And more importantly, why was he letting them distract him?

Is there no internet in Melbourne?
Fortnite was his number 1 distraction...

Chad is right in this instance. The media are shit in Adelaide and Port do run a shitload of programs and extra community work that our players do. At Hawthorn he can just play his footy and then go home and play fortnite.

Not just with Chad, but forever, the media are notorious for selectively quoting from interviews to suit their agenda. If possible, we should always go and listen to the whole interview before we get our knickers in a knot.

It’s only sound IF Carlton actually finish bottom... ending up with say pick 3/4 - which is entirely possible - is an out and out disaster!
Pick 3/4 would still be the earliest pick we've taken to the draft this century I think

Agree about the media, but most of the community stuff he was involved with was with the indigenous programs which he apparently loved doing.

The amswer answer to the final question is why he will likely never fulfill his potential IMO.

He just doesn't want it enough.

The only programs Hawthorn run are subsidised biscuits at the gaming lounges.

Yes a weird comment by him.
Sounds like selflessness is not a thing he admires off field.
Perhaps
the team stuff and community programs were interfering with his fortnite time.

Having said that Port sure does do a hell of a lot of community stuff.

Clarko is a smart cookie, has been getting into Wingard’s head for years, will give him star status and allowances which he craves.
He was strutting around like a peacock after his 3 goal haul.
I hope the Hawks crash and burn over the next few years ( they won’t of course)

I would have thought the family club would be running a s***load of community programs unless Chad has been told 'don't worry, Roughie and the boys can look after that. You get yourself right and just concentrate on your footy'

Doesn't like media attention in Adelaide - Goes to a club that has massive media attention in Melbourne. :drunk:

If you took any notice of Paul Vandenberg’s Twitter he’d speak glowingly of Wingard in this area. First there, last to leave, most giving of himself of all the players. I’m not sure this is the stuff Chad was alluding to. Perhaps he was alluding to clashes with other personalities within the club. He was being fairly cryptic.

did you read what he said? you can see how being a footy player in SA is the worst place to be in in the AFL system
