You know how occasionally we discuss the rise of athletes as footballers rather than footballers? Well it's the same for umpires. The bounce is demonised for being an unnecessary act that prevents good umpires from making it, but the fitness requirements are just as obstructive.

There should be five umpires: 1 centre/main; 2 arcs; and 2 pockets. The field is too big. Make it a crew, so they are able to know each other.

The biggest problem is feel for the game imo of course they try to all of a sudden develop it around finals time and are less trigger happy.. that there is even a notion that they put the whistle away at the business end tells you all you need to know about their professionalism & the AFL itself.

AFL copies the worst of the NBA and the worst of the NFL on top of its VFL parochialism. It's a case worth of a study.

I feel like adding more umpires just increases the amount of idiots on the field to make wrong calls
It's a risk. That's why there should be crews. It helps establishing consistency.
