Here's an idea:

Play a 23 round H&A season.
The teams are ranked based on the number of wins and scoring percentage.
The team ranked 1st receives a minor accolade in the form of a trophy.
The 8 top teams are eligible to play in the Finals Series.
(A bye week is possible between H&A and Finals Series but not necessary)
5th plays 8th and 6th plays 7th in Elimination Finals
1st plays 4th and 2nd plays 3rd in Qualifying Finals
The winners of the two Elimination Finals play the losers of the two Qualifying Finals in two Semi Finals.
The winners of the Qualifying Finals each go through to Preliminary Finals, with their opponents being the winners of the Semi Finals.
The winners of the Preliminary Finals play off against each other in a Grand Final.
The winner of the Grand Final is proclaimed the Premier Club for that year and given a Premiership Trophy.

It's radical, I know, but I have a hunch it might just work.
Game changer.

To be fair, if you were suggesting this and we had been doing something else for the past ten years it would be considered ridiculously convoluted. Especially the double chance and the crossing over brackets stuff.

Heard from one of my staff members that Sauce Jacobs brother passed away last night (her husband is his cousin). Sad news for him, wonder if he'll get up for the game?...

I guess it's what you get used to but it seems quite logical to me.

Better than the aborted McIntyre Final 8 System, that's for sure. (which is what we had been doing for the preceding 'ten years' before implementing the system we have now.)

Both are far too complex.

A straight knockout with the top ten would be good, with locked in home advantage for whoever finished higher during the season.
1v10 etc.
Then the winner of 1v10 against the winner of 5 v 6 etc.
If 10 wins, the winner of 5v6 gets home advantage.

That's like the old Macintyre system but with a top 10 instead of 8 ... that got the crows a flag from being ordinary all year.

They scrapped it after Adelaide (5th, lost to Melbourne at the MCG by 8 goals in week 1) and Carlton (6th, lost to Brisbane at the Gabba by 12 goals in week 1) won the flag and made the Grand Final in 1998 and 1999, respectively.

The weird thing is, if they'd retained that system for just a few more years we probably win 2 flags across 2001-4 at a minimum. We're not losing any of those alternate Qualifying Finals to Hawthorn, West Coast or Essendon.

Wrong.

GWS are most likely to win.

- Been a long time since GWS played Crows.

- Crows won last time largely due to round 1 factor and the disinterest of GWS due to the heat.

- GWS pick and choose when they want to play well and defend etc. They will choose to go hard on Thursday due to the time of year.

- Their players got a taste last year and have already mentioned this in the media, meaning hey are thinking about it and are looking to go better.

- Crows already think they have won the flag subconsciously. The state has ensured that this is the case.
Dunno, those umpires are gonna be #freekickadelaide and #pray4rory mode all night.

GWS will freak out in front of the crowd.

If the broadcasters want more finals instead of bringing in more teams add the following -

Week 2 - losers of Elimination finals to see whose 7th and 8th
Week 3 - losers of Semis for whose 5th and 6th
Curtain raiser of GF have losers of prelims for 3rd and 4th.

To encourage clubs then make the draft order each round
18 .... 10, 9, 7, 8, 5, 6, 3, 4, 2, 1

And players to get match fees (outside cap for the games). With also some smaller prize money for the competing clubs (always nice for the balance sheet).
Serious question.

Have you ever watched the 3rd and 4th place playoff in the World Cup finals?

No, neither have I.

I remember when Tony McGuinness had his appendix out and I think he was back playing in 2 or 3 weeks ? It was pretty fast for those days not sure if medical science has improved on that. I know when I had mine out I was stuffed for 3 weeks just moving around but that was like 100 years ago.

Laparoscopic surgery is often used and a much less invasive option these days and quicker recovery. That being said, Rory wouldn't want to get in Toby Greene's way next week.

Key hole surgery seems to make recovery easier due to smaller incisions. You would think he would be pushing it though being a mid that gets hammered alot.
Yes, all that lifting his arms at contests to let the umpires know they have to pay a free will take its toll.

1988 Brownlow medallist Gerard Healy hails Michael Hibberd's impact at Melbourne after spending last year on the sidelines because of the supplements saga.
"It's an amazing story when you think of all the hurdles placed in front of him in the last 12 months," Healy said.

Let's see how much praise our Paddy gets
