Basil looks too much like Jeff Goldblum for my liking. I'm afraid his ears will fall off and he will kidnap Sam and make maggots with her.

I would've thought that engaging all stakeholders when negotiating the use of a particular venue would be the right thing to do. But maybe FAA didn't do the right thing when negotiating the use of Adelaide Oval and this is payback.

Or maybe I'm overthinking it so yeah, let's f*&k up their home ground and f*&k socca moyte, farken.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw him recently shuffling around IGA in daggy old tracky dacks (the Goldblum resemblance, not the maggots thing).

30k. Hardly a dismal crowd for a glorified exhibition match. Huge Irish contingent too which adds to the atmosphere. It's just a bit of fun. People who hate the IRS just like to complain.
I went in 2014 and again last night, it's a great spectacle live. The whole 30K are general admission so it's a younger crowd and an awesome atmosphere. Plus how cool is it seeing Wingard and Betts lighting up the same forward line, regardless context.

Next time it's on TV I'll probably watch if I have nothing better to do but the next time there's a game in town I'll definitely be going.

While both had their footy careers cut short by injury, I suspect Fitzy got his start in media through his footy ability and personality (whether or not that's your cup of tea), whereas BaZ got his starts in footy and media through his family connections. Was Fitzy also 'well connected'?
Didn't Fitzy's career start after Big Brother or some other reality show?

Soccer influence, perhaps.
That, plus money/cost and a 3rd game adds injury risk.

The talk is that they might play 3 games one year, the first in New York - played in Central Park as the 1967 and 1968 Galahs team played a New York team there, made up mainly of NY Cops of Irish heritage and then 2 in Ireland as a way of selling the series to make sure the best players go.

Greg Gripin' is at it again...

Soccer anger over AFLX pitch invasion at Hindmarsh Stadium

Football Federation Australia officials and Adelaide chairman Greg Griffin could not understand why the Reds — the sole tenants of Hindmarsh Stadium — weren’t notified before the AFL made the announcement on Friday.

And Griffin added Adelaide hasn’t been told whether the club will have access to its regular pre-game training session at Hindmarsh the day before facing the Mariners.

Griffin has called for the State Government to intervene.

Griffen is a whinger but stadium management should be talking to their anchor tenants to avoid clashes and make sure the existing locked in schedule of the anchor tenants isn't greatly affected. It happens too often at stadiums around the country where anchor tenants are stuffed around by stadium management in their desire to get new revenue streams.

Who is the anchor tenant at Adelaide Oval?

Playing a game in New York would just give ammunition to those who see the series as a sideshow/junket.

Who is the anchor tenant at Adelaide Oval?
I said tenants. It is Port the crows between 15 March and 7 October and the SACA in the other part of the year.

Does the SMA need to notify all 3 clubs when they book a Nitro Circus 3 days before an AFL game?
Find the lease and you will get your legal answer.

I do remember Subiaco being unavailable on the Saturday night where both West Coast and Fremantle were potentially to play in home semi-finals because management took the punt of it's unlikelihood of occurance and booked in rugby union.

If I remember rightly it didn't occur and guess there is some logic in what an exceptional circumstance it was but could have been farcical.

I dont get the serial bagging of the IRS games! Of course we want no injuries, but you could see the players just loved it. I think its a great spectacle to see all the great players from different clubs playing as one team! I am a competitive person and enjoy all forms of competitive sports. So once the game started, I was all in, by the end I was thoroughly enjoying it. Zorko's unbridled joy at kicking the over to seal the game in the last minute, and the team's response was infectious!

How great to represent Australia internationally in what is a domestic sport! Really, people need to stop the bitching!

Yes I remember that was for the Wallabies v South Africa test match and I think the Subi/WAFC events team booked the oval for another test between the 2 teams on the same weekend and potential clash either the next year, or 2 years later.

Fitzy has done very well for a Wirreanda alumni that played for the Cockledivers

Was Chad ever really at Sturt, or was it like a 17 year old having a job at Macca's for six months before getting an apprenticeship and working that industry for the next 50 years...

Sent from mTalk
Junior squads at Sturt for 4 years means you get taught the Oatey way. Grandson David Oatey has been doing junor coaching for years. Bob must be pushing 70.

And on queue Sturt appoint David Oatey as their U/18 coach not just a junior development coaching role. Looks like I was wrong re him coaching Chad in juniors as he was at Norwood at the time.

HIGHLY-RATED Sturt football manager David Oatey’s desire to coach as well as develop the club’s juniors has prompted a reshuffle of the Double Blues football department. Oatey, a crucial component of the Double Blues’ successful defence of the SANFL premiership this season, will take charge of the high performance program and coach the under 18 side. Chris Trapp took the under 18 side to the flag this year but will replace Oatey as the football manager. He will also coach the reserves after Gianni Pettruci opted to stand down from the job after only one season.......“David likes coaching, particularly junior development, and he wanted the change,” Double Blues chief executive Sue Dewing said. “We don’t want to lose him because he has been so important.......Dewing said Oatey had brought a new way of thinking to the club after being influential in junior development at Norwood. She noted Oatey’s role at the club had been underestimated in the couple of years he has been at Unley. “He has had a huge influence on (coach) Marty (Mattner),” Dewing said. “Chris Trapp has also worked closed with Marty in the last couple of years as well.........

Fair play to the double blues, they’ve done a great job in turning their club around.

Did David Oatey play league at all?

I dont think so. I will have to ask my Norwood and Sturt mates.
