I assume the change will have to involve penalising teams that don't reset quick enough after a goal (30 seconds to match ad breaks probably). So it's assumed if forwards are always in defense and having to run back, by later in the game they'll be stuffed and not able to do that (or play that well in general). Especially if this is combined with reduced interchanges, it should force coaches to leave forwards, if not in the forward 50, instructed not to flood defenses as much.

At least that's the aim. We'll see how it goes in practise. I think it will make the lumbering talls even more out of place.
In practice they will wait whilst they get to positions, as long as they are making an effort as the clock will be stopped.

SANFL will not be volunteering to test AFL rule changes

SANFL leaders will not be offering their State league as a trial horse for the AFL’s impending rule changes.

“We have not - and we will not - approach the AFL offering to trial any of their rules,” SANFL chief executive Jake Parkinson told The Advertiser on Thursday.

“Like the AFL, we want the SANFL to be a compelling competition - not a trial ground.

“Running a trial runs the risk of being detrimental to the SANFL, so it is not happening.”

Critically, the AFL working paper for six “adjustments” next season puts the national competition at a fundamental block with the SANFL on one rule change - last possession leading to a free kick rather than a boundary throw-in.

The mere existence of the AFLW is an unqualified success and will be Gil's greatest legacy.

The AFLW is a great idea badly executed. Which is a step up on everything else he's done, which are all bad ideas badly executed.

The SANFL have leaders ?

I work for the Adelaide Footy League and honestly enjoy watching and following that a hell of a lot more these days than the AFL because the interpretation of the rules doesn't change every 3 ******* weeks and there's no nuffies in the media coverage because there practically is no media coverage.

Says a lot when your local amateur league is more enticing than the national competition. I just hope that the changes and precedents set by the AFL don't filter down and taint the the lower leagues.

Weren’t we told yesterday that state leagues are “queuing up” to be apart of trial games?

The inevitable groundswell for increased to the point of living pay (based on the usual public misunderstanding of sports-economics) has the potential to be a millstone around the league's neck at any given moment.

I consider myself about as much of a feminist as a man can be, but there's a reason there's a pay gap in professional sports. Professional sport isn't 'equal pay for equal work', it's a meritocracy. Sam Gray and Dustin Martin perform equal work, but Dusty's on a hell of a lot more money, because he's a better footballer. And yet if Sam Gray was an AFLW player he'd be the best player in the league by a country mile.

Imagine if Gil actually goes ahead with AFLX again next year LOL

I want it to happen just to watch people get irate at how loud the steam jets after goals are.

Children were clapping their hands over their ears and looking decidedly upset. The whole thing was such a morbid curiosity.

They even dug up Lehmo for the boundary rider job. The ****.

I'm giggling at the mysterious prostrate folded arms down the bottom of the picture.
I have seen the full image where the guy is holding a big X with his abs but it's funnier that the image I decided to save was one where the News Corp guy decided to crop this idiot out

Should just be Sam Gray holding a silver hoola hoop by himself off to the corner of the picture.
