Matthew Pavlich is Sydney's new CEO.

Didn't realise 9news reporting and a commentary gig fit the criteria as CEO
Pavlich is more than just a commentator and news reader.

Freo very early on realised they had to do more than just pay Pav well to keep him from going home. So they set him up do stuff and did a lot of work with Freo's corporates, in particular Woodside, and they helped set him up in business ventures that over time he was hands on.

Both WA clubs do this with their star players as a way of getting to embed themselves in Perth and WA and to reduce the go home factor, ie more than just property development stuff. There are a lot more head offices in WA than SA and its one of the big reasons why he regularly rejected offers from both Port and the crows to go back home.

From Pav's Uni WA profile - its 8 or 9 years old.
He is co-founder of PickStar, an online platform providing direct connections to over 500 sports stars for events, marketing and promotions; as well as being an associate of PMY Group which develops, implements, manages and commercialises digital, technology and data projects for its clients.

The AFLPA have been pushing for him to become their CEO since Paul Marsh left, he was President for many years when he was a player - like Dangerfield is at the moment, but I thought no way will he leave his business interests in Perth to move to Melbourne. Looks like the opportunity to deal with the corporate elites of Sydney might have gotten him to move.

This is just another smart move by Sydney and is a reminder that they have had 2 great presidents, first Richard Colless for 20 years and ex South Aussie Andrew Pridham for the last dozen years. Both heavily involved in finance / funds management and therefore deal with the big end of corporate Australia - not just small business nerds as our president loves.

Colless in 1995 appointed ex Brownlow medallist and star KPF of the late 70's and 80' Kelvin Templeton, who was running a division of a health insurer that eventually became part of Bupa, he finally got inducted into the HoF last year year. He appointed Andrew Ireland who had played 100 games for Collingwood, was CEO of Brisbane for a decade including their first flag in 2001.

Pridham appointed Tom Harley back in 2019 as CEO who will probably be CEO of the AFL after 5 years if he does a good job as 2IC to Dillion. Now Pav - all good solid footy backgrounds, understand the game and business. Wish we had a CEO who could do both. KT did a great job on the footy side, but his lack of business connections meant he couldn't get big sponsorship deals done.

The guy in between Templeton and Ireland who was CEO between 2003 and 2009 was Myles Baron-Hay an engineer from Perth who played amateur footy, ended up in construction industry for a decade, moved off to funds management, moved to NZ to be CEO of a firm there - one of his board directors was Richard Colless. He ended up being pretty close to Paul Roos and working with him to change Sydney's culture from being a team than made finals, but went nowhere, to one that was a dominate team in the comp for the last 20 years.

Expect another decade of the swans being at, or near the top of the ladder. When Pav goes into a clubs CEO meeting and says - hang on, we have this football issue that needs to be fixed up - others will listen. And the AFL loves ex AFLPA CEOs/ Presidents / legal advisors etc.

He’s gone. They ratified it today.
I couldn’t help but think that you don’t call a board meeting without a clear mandate, then deliberate for 5 hours and walk away without something tangible. I wonder whether he knows (Voss) and IF so, how long until he'll address the playing group.

No one wants Little Kenny Caravans
Not for the main gig. Somebody will want him for a coaching directors role and if the money is good enough he will take it.

C4[2]Yo`DooR you know you're loved on this board, but do you think it's time you let the Carlton board know this news so they don't have to come here and receive it?

I’m the noble voice of BF unity, proudly standing by the motto: “a problem shared is a problem halved.” 😆

Then again, I thought the same thing about Yugoslavia …

We've been sharing our Hinkley problem for years.
