15-8 might not be enough to make the finals this year. Crazy.

15-7 was good enough to finish top for St Kilda in 1997 (and Geelong in 2nd). That was an even season in a different way. And hopefully there's a different ending this year.

Why is Nat Fyfe doing a retirement lap before he's retired?

What happens if Freo play a home final and he's back here in three weeks? This is silly.
He knows that as they keep playing him, there won’t be a home final.

If they don’t play him, they might.

And that’s the bitch of it.

In 1997, 8-14 and a % of 87 got you second last.
Guess who might finish 8-15 with a % of just 80, this year?

Thoughts on both games last night.

Duursma's chip kick near the end was shit.

Freo barely beat pretty much a Port Magpies team with the umps paying a mark that Wines touched in the build up to the winner. So obviously they are getting belted by Brisbane.

The AFL has created a 2 speed competition through all of its inequities. They're lucky the Bulldogs dropped a few close ones this year or half the teams would just be shuffling their feet in the dirt waiting for the season to end to shift deckchairs.

Old KG reckons it's the Crows' flag to lose. Assuming they finish top and win their qualifying final (no certainty), they then get a week off before the preliminary final. Thanks to the stupid pre finals bye, that means 1 game in a month - a scenario that didn't work too well for us a couple of times.

Not quite the wildcard round that seems almost inevitable before too long, but next week's Dogs v Freo game looms as a 'play in' final.

Sad thing is we’ll be doing it next weekend for Boak & Kenny.

Mmmm. If we had top-4 to play for and Boak had a golden ticket to come on at 4 goals down only to stroll around the field terrified of raising a gallop, let alone a burst/sprint (at one point Fyfe was backing away from a contest looking to receive a handball that he’d instantly give back despite being in clear space), I’d wonder what the actual point of the football club was.

Fremantle is culturally moribund. Always has been. Always will be.

Which is why our headlong and often gleeful plunge into similar depths is so hard to take.

Once footy clubs preference sentimentality, mawkishness and an overall good time over sacrifice, ruthlessness and a desire to win, you may as well wind the joint up.

Unfortunately our negative “scared” mindset and language going into finals cost us miserably over our last 5 campaigns (2017, 2020-21, 2023-24). Other clubs won’t put that noose around their own necks the way we did.

That Freo win last week was very Hinkley era us wasn't it, their talent not aligning in a consistent cohesive style is utterly depressing to watch jeezus do they wanna be Port lite?

Their fans windmilling over it and bemoaning the lopsided FK count as the chief culprit for the diabolical performance against such a gettable opponent was extremely relatable.
