Age and experience counts.

Freo had more finals experience than GC but not massive amount. A lot of players had only played 2 finals in 2022.

Freo saved us from a record tonight at least as the victims of Gold Coast's very first finals victory. We love those sorta ones.
Thanks, Freo ... :D

For ages we had to put up with the Suns beating us for their first ever Win ...
Freo Topped that with letting the Suns beat them in their first ever final

Freo will be hoping that for other team to lose to them for the first ever Grand Final

First 2 finals series for expansion teams

WCE. L then DLWL
Adel. WLL then WWWW
Bears L then WWL
Lions L then WWL
Port. L then LL
Freo L then WL
GWS WL then LWL
GC... W ???????

Sydney in 1986 and 1987 had 4 finals in Victoria despite finishing 2nd in 1986 LL 3rd in 1987 LL.

The St Kilda of the post 1986 expansion sides.
Straighten up the kicking in the first quarter of 2013 and they shake this. It's a relief to have a few bigger punching bags in the league for our admin

When you look at a game as a neutral observer and find yourself shaking your head in disbelief at some of the umpiring decisions you know something is fundamentally wrong in the game. I watched most of the GWS v Hawks game yesterday and could not fathom what some of the free kicks were for.

In the dying minutes of yesterday's game a GWS player was penalised for what appeared to be a fair contesting for a mark. On another occasion a GWS player was called back after a team mate who had been awarded a free handballed from behind the mark. No advantage and no common sense from the umpire. Then of course there was the usual 50 metre penalty when a player ran in the wrong spot without affecting play in the slightest. If a player interferes with the player awarded a free fair enough but that is not what is happening.

FOOTNOTE: Then I saw a replay of the dying minutes of the Freo v Suns game. I am still trying to figure out what that winning free to the Suns was for, The Suns player has the ball runs several metres and is tackled he drops the football in the tackle and appeals for a free which is duly awarded. Surely that was holding the ball or at the very least play on? Maybe I am missing some thing but if I were a Dockers supporter I would be pissed off at that decision.

We play and support a body contact sport ffs. Andrew Dillon and the AFL appear hell bent on turning it into a non contact sport.

watch him win another couple of Premierships for them
Has a lot to do, they were unbeatable for years but have bottomed out finishing only above West Coast this year.
There’s just no knocks on the door for an AFL position anywhere, even Carr has passed on him so there must be a problem with him.
In saying that a 4 year deal coaching Subi will still be reasonable money so he won’t starve.

I really like Rowell as a footballer. Maybe not as polished as some of the elite meds in the comp but he’d run through a brick wall for his club.
That’s what impressed me most about our mids in the last round win. They actually managed to quell him and tackle him effectively - especially Butters

It’s all coming to an end soon only Friday night and Saturday night next week.
Not long and your letterbox will be packed with Christmas catalogs.
I am going to complain about whatever the AFL do. Let me complain in peace!

Bring back the Sunday final farken.

If the AFL followed my advice (the only positive from the AFL House is that they do not), we would have a second-tiered Finals tournament on Sundays.

(We also need 24 teams for that. Thus, both Finals would have 8 teams, whilst 8 clubs would be out.)

I think it's as simple as scrapping the Thursday night final.

One thing that’s against the hawks this Friday is that since the current finlas system was brought in, only one top-two side (lions in 2019) has failed to reach a prelim. But history is there to be changed right?

In hindsight the Gold Coast would have been a great chance against the Crows had they finished 4th. Could've had a home Prelim.
