Via AFL:
MELBOURNE has made an enormous pitch to keep superstar Kysaiah Pickett at the club, offering the premiership Demon a seven-year contract extension. AFL.com.au can reveal the offer would take Pickett through until the end of 2034 and would be one of footy's most lucrative contracts.
That’s a lot of chips for a seagull.

Listening to Chris Scott being interviewed is such a stark contrast to Daddy Donuts ahh jeezus what could've been.

Well done Erin Phillips - 2nd woman into Australian Football Hall of Fame after Debbie Lee, 1st Father Daughter combo in the Hall of Fame after only 3 Father Sons, the McMurrays umpires, the Buntons and the Williamses.

WAFL great George Owens inducted into Hall of Fame. 7 flags as a player for East Perth between 1919 and 1927 and played 17 state games.

Then became an umpire and umpired 5 WAFL GFs between 1935 and 1941.

I remember reading about him as a kid then have forgot about him for 40 years. Glad that these old guys eventually get recognition for their contribution to the game.

Peter Darley stealing the show.
Flying to England to watch the Lord's test between games is a cracker. I hadn't heard that, but had heard a quiet a few other funny stories when I was young.

Just dropping into this thread for the Peter Darley love.

A sporty it turned out to be.

The more he drinks the more he drops stories like they're on sale type of bloke.

Part of the tweet if you click more is the Chris Scott clause

Already 20% of the senior coach salary can be paid outside the soft cap. That's staying the same, but a senior coach is now entitled to a further $100k in marketing funds.
Wouldn’t be the AFL without complexities and loopholes.

So the HOF tonight;

Elevated to Legend - Ken Farmer SANFL great 11 centuries in a row, 2 flags as a player 2 as a coach, played in 1930-40's and coached between 1949-52 2 lags and 3 GFs in 4 seasons. Kicked 1419 goals in SANFL, 81 goals in 17 state games and 50 in 10 games against Victoria.

3 state league players inducted from different eras;
George Owens - WAFL played after WWI 1919 to 1932 then umpired in the WAFL in the 30's and early 40's.
John Leedham - Tassie great play 100+ games for clubs in each of NTFA and TFL in 1940's and 1950's and an All Australian
Peter Darley, - SANFL great 200+ games, and 1969 All Australian played between 1962 and 1974,

2 Players served the minimum 5 years after retirement;
Nick Reiwoldt and Luke Hodge

1 Play retired for 25 years
Gary Lyon

2 AFLW players who must have a lot shorter eligibility period;
Erin Phillips and Daisy Pearce - they were always going to be the first 2 AFLW players into the HoF and no surprise they put them in, in the same year.

I reckon soon we will see 4 or 5 players retired for only 5 years get inducted in 1 year.

The same Cats who were found to be making secret player payments??

Probably all of these guys will be gone by October 2027.
Duncan, Stanley and Guthrie should be gone October this year,
Dangerfield, Blicavs, Bews should be gone by October 2026,
Cameron and Stewart should be gone by October 2027.

There is probably $4mil+ salaries in these 8 players.

The AFL's annual report showed the average player salary, inc ASA payments was $493,592 in 2024. These 8 players are in the best 15 so they would all be on at least average salaries.

We can afford to get decent support in for Josh

It’s genuinely mindblowing how long these contractions were left in place after COVID.

Non-Vic clubs were left structurally uncompetitive in that marketplace for years.

For those who missed it, Peter Darley stole the show last night at the Hall of Fame, just like Rick Davies did in 2014. Something about 6 foot 2 ruckmen I guess.

Bickley said he was 16 when he debuted in 1962. There is no date of birth on record for Darley but he was born in 1944 so he probably turned in 18 during the 1962 season. He talks about going to school with Ian Chappell who was born in September 1943.

Glad Ken Farmer finally got elevated, but like with Russ it's a ****ing disgrace that there had to be more than 30 of them before he got the nod. 1417 goals you Victorian pieces of shit.

That's the big 3 players and one of the big 2 coaches from the SANFL elevated to Legend status, the only one left who is a glaring omission is Jack. They'll probably wait for him to die like they did with Russ though, gotta make sure Dunstall gets elevated in his 50s first.
