The stand rule is totally ridiculous and like you say has made the game harder to watch.
Reminds me of my primary school teacher that kept telling me to stand still in assembly.
Weird because its literally rule that makes players stand the mark like they used to until less than 10 years ago.

How much time was wasted on that score review including the kick in time by the bulldogs player?

2 minutes? Seriously that bloke shouldn't be a goal umpire if he couldn't adjudicate it was taken before the line.
The last one was even worse.

The goal umpire called it a behind and the boundary umpire agreed with him based on the head nod. And still went with the review to get an "inconclusive".

It's nothing like that. The stand rule and the delay in umpires calling play on when the player moves off his line is a blight on the game.

The last quarter was good but I wasn’t that enthused with the rest of the game.

Felt like Brisbane had the game under complete control for the majority of the match until the last minute when the dogs got within a goal. The Lions just butchered chances of putting it away.

Great goal by Ashcroft at the end there but the moment completely ruined by Daryl Braithwaite.

Stop the post goal songs please.

In the 2nd quarter when the game was boring, I thought how many first rounders have Brisbane got in their side and used first round picks to draft in Neale and Dunkley?? So I looked it up and did a small chart.

Brisbane have nailed how they have used their first round picks the last decade. I looked at their picks since 2014, ie Leppitsch's first year as coach and the cellar dweller years started before the turn around to have regular top 4 finishes.

Fagan's first year in 2017, they won the wooden spoon. 2019 and 2021 they went out in straight sets.

It bloody helps they have had 3 very high quality father son picks in the last 3 drafts. But I have bolded 12 of their best 23 as players they have obtained via a 1st round pick and Sam Marshall made his debut tonight.

If we had these sort of picks the last decade, would Cripps, Parker and Davies have nailed the draft and trades to produce a similar result?? Take out the 3 father/sons and would they have matched Brisbane's use of 1st round picks via where they finished and their trades??

Times are from AFL app's Full Timeline.

1st Qtr 32:34
2nd Qtr 32:20
3rd Qtr 30:37
4th Qtr 32:45

Time taken = 128 minutes 16 seconds.

24 goals kicked tonight, but the last one was on the final siren, so 23 x 45 seconds for commercial breaks = 17 minutes and 15 seconds.

80 + 17:15 = 97:15, so there was 31 minutes and 1 second of dead time.

My Kayo clock counter says the game started at 1:10:20 and finished at 3:51:37 = 2:41:17

The quarter time breaks are supposed to be 6 minutes, 20 minutes, and 6 minutes = 32 minutes.

So as the game went 2:08:16 as per my above post, with times coming from AFL app, it meant no more than a minute was stolen from us from the scheduled break times. I can handle that minute or less being lost.

Hey guys probably not gonna find anything here but does anyone itk have any idea if Rozee is just gonna be the 1 week or more than likely more?

The one that gets me is how it’s just expected that someone having a set-shot 50-55m out will exploit the stand rule by playing on in an arc to get that much closer to goal, and the man on the mark knows it’s coming, but is left leaning and flailing helplessly like he’s concreted into the ground.

Common sense, please.

As soon as the set-shooter deviates off his mark, his opponent should automatically be released also.

I think as soon as they elect to take 30 seconds the stand rule shouldn’t apply.

Hard to say, he is just as likely to be a last minute addition as he is to not play again this season.

Port are never overly clear on injuries.

I have a immense distrust of anyone who dislikes the Stand/Protected Area ruleset. Sure its ugly to hear the ump yell "Stand" every 3 seconds but it's much more attractive than the rolling mauls along the boundary line we had prior to its introduction.

I'd rather a scenario where a player can be within the protected zone but not be making a play for the ball, essentially offside, so there's not these random 50 metre penalties unless they impact the play.

Don't mind the stand rule. Just not a fan of the outside 5, and blokes not going back behind the mark giving a huge advantage to the offense

The entire reason said player is standing in that space is to prevent the guy from the ball from going inboard.

They're not doing nothing, they're blocking the space.

Half time:

Brodie Grundy - 40 hitouts and 9 clearances v Brynn Teakle - 2 hitouts and 2 clearances

Just got home (47 degrees outside) and turned on the Swans v Roos game.
I thought Brereton was painful to listen to earlier but Mark Howard does my head in.
Basically sits their screaming players nicknames as they complete a basic skill…
