Last Saturday night's crowd at the MCG was the largest minor round games crowd for a non Vic side vs a Vic side in Melbourne by a few thousand over the swans biggest crowd in Melbourne. Must be those old Gorilla supporters coming out to barrack.

Port and the crows have 3 minor round game crowds between 60k and 69k, Freo and WCE have 2 each all v Collingwood. Biggest GWS crowd is 43.3k v Collingwood and GC is 38.5k v Richmond.


Essendon used to have the biggest crowds against the swans and other non Vic teams, then they moved to Docklands. They got a long term sweetheart deal to be the anchor tenant in 2000, for about 20 years a lot better than the small clubs who call it home.

I wonder if now that the AFL own it, they still have a sweetheart deal that is a lot better than the other clubs that call it their home ground??

I know not making and winning finals has hurt Essendon the last 2 decades ( and the drug scandal), but they let Collingwood become the biggest club in Melbourne by giving up their rights for home games at MCG, and left it open for Hawthorn to become a tenant of the MCG, which has helped grow them as well.

The goal kicking is also a factor,Cameron normally is a dead eye dick,6-1 last week but 4-5 this week.
Geelong 15-19 was also helpful in keeping the margin closer.
