Clarko watching the Norf girls and eating hot chips!
GAWGEE THE CHIPS

Also, if a Norf wins a womens final and no one is there to watch it, did it happen?

The grand final drew less than a norf home game coming off 100 point drubbings for a decade.

Such a small market team having established such unprecedented dominance over the AFLW is absolutely terrible for that league's growth and development.

Yeah agree. It's not even about going undefeated, they just cruised through the season in 2nd gear. Only Melbourne in the prelim got within 4 goals. They haven't lost a game in 2 seasons.

They don't pay them enough nor is the salary cap structured in a way that really allows them to fall under salary cap pressure either. Everyone else is going to have get good.

The AFL has heard you and is giving Collingwood concessions.

And they won't, because AFLW player movement rules are much less restrictive than AFL player movement rules. The #1 pick from two years ago is already expected to ask for a trade to Norf. The gap will get wider before it gets narrower.

To be fair, it sold out.

Crowd was 12,700 odd, wonder how many actually paid.
Comp losses 50 million a year not thats a lot of money when you’re talking about the AFL.
Does it? This published anywhere?

If true I guess it makes sense as they market the hell out of it and have a lot of overheads and similar game days to AFL games but with much smaller crowds. Not scaling well perhaps.

Was never about money the AFLW though, until clubs wanted in on the government gravy train, they didn't give a shit.

I guess the problem now is players are asking for more money and blah blah blah without realising a lot of this is running on goodwill only.

You type into google, how much does the AFLW lose a year and up she pops 50 million.
Considering it’s only a 12 week round I guess that’s fair loss when you put it into perspective.
I reckon the AFL will run with it because it involves woman and the woman supporter base in AFL is increasing.

Watched most of the AFLW GF yesterday and gotta say Brisbane played a pretty tough physical game and their tackling was pretty impressive for nearly 3/4, but North were just too skilful and knew how to get out of trouble and wore out Brisbane.

Our girls have to spend less time tick toking and more time on their defensive play and improve their skills to compete with these 2 teams, come finals time.

Watched it on 7, so dodged Kelli Underwood. I did turn it over to Kayo after the Brisbane captain's speech as I wanted to re hear it as she sounded like she was just happy to participate.

Listening again, I wrote down - best week, memories, laughs and the obligatory - proud of the whole group. I reckon it was a classic, I had fun even though we lost speech. I guess it just reflects the vibe of AFLW for most players.

MVP/BOG player North's Sheerin took a leaf out of 2006 WCE's players and finished her speech with - LETS FU**KING GO!

The women are just as awkward as the blokes doing the whole - handshake, medal around your neck and handing over a cap to the Auskick kids. Just get an adult to hand over the medals.

The entire season was playing for "who will come second to North".

Their dominance made our 1914 SANFL season seem like a close run.

We won 30 in a row and 2 flags between 1913 and 1915. East Freo won 35 in a row between 1945 and 1947 for 2 flags.

But you can't really compare different comps, like some dills were trying to say North's AFLW is better than Geelong's 1952-53, 23 game streak.

All streaks come to an end.

Agree - amongst many cringe moments on grand final day, this takes the cake. Much better having some revered past player or coach handing out the medals.

From Wilson's article.

Dillon met Kane this week to specify her role would remain at the helm of football at match day operational level across the AFL, AFLW, VFL and VFLW. Although Kane previously retained some control over umpiring, the match review officer and AFL tribunal, due to Swann’s arrival at head office in late July, she will now relinquish those roles completely. [good]

Dillon also met Swann last week to clarify his responsibilities.

This masthead contacted Dillon, Swann and Kane but all refused to comment on the tensions. Some senior staff described the issues as “teething problems”, while others insisted the situation was becoming untenable before Dillon’s intervention.

They don’t want to be seen to sack Kane but don’t know what to do with her either?

With the Brownlow Medal continuing to lose its lustre due in large part to massive recent winning totals, expect the umpires to be given access to game statistics in 2026. In another vote for commonsense at league headquarters, whistleblowers were consulted this week for a meeting as to how after-match voting procedures will work.
AFL football boss Greg Swann had flagged the change after Matt Rowell won the 2025 Brownlow with 39 votes, a year after Patrick Cripps had polled a record 45 to win. Swann’s thoughts were backed by veteran AFL umpire Simon Meredith, who said: “If you get stats, I’m sure that would add something that we could look at, to help us.”
