Also Burgoyne wasn't in his prime, he wasn't training at all so he could be nursed through games in the midfield. He only worked at Hawthorn because they let him mostly just swan around at half back while other players did the grunt work he needed to do at Port.

yeah well they got 250 games and 3 premierships with Burgoyne. so they did extremely well to manage him like that, and used him brilliantly in finals and big games by plugging and playing him for many clutch moments.
