Positives/negatives VS Essendon thread

The two times this season that I've had to work during the game and watch when I get home have been the Carlton and Essendon matches. I'm never working on a Saturday night again.

For god sake give Tunbridge a full game,,I think he would be great..bloody sub 3 times,,,give him a break
He doesn't have the tank to play a full game, and that's from someone i know inside the eagles.

Now that the season is shot, get NicNat off the park! If in fact he is carrying something, get him looked at now. Cox can get his send off next week, then play Lycett and Sinkers against GC. Also, if anyone else is carrying something, get them off too.

And FFS give Maginess a game...

Rest Naitanui this week. Play Cox for the full game.

Bring back Lecras and Selwood.
Agree everything else, but don't you think Selwood should have a game with the Royals considering how long he's been out for?

We played a decent 3 quarters but ran out of legs, 6 day break v 8 day break for the Bumbers. Makes a massive difference late in the year (good point to remember tipping those 50 / 50 games. I tipped the Tigers this week.

The last quarter we simply couldn't get the ball and control it. We basically chased Essendon for 90% of that quarter.

That bullsh!t ref call in the last 30 seconds against Hill set me off, a slight, very slight bit of body work in the side = push in the back FFS you freakin maggots, you miss hundreds of obvious frees both ways and then decide to pull out a dodgy harf arsed soft free kick to kill the last play of the game. Normally the tossers swallow the whistle and attempted murder is needed to draw a free and they pull out a call like that.:mad: Sure it probably not resulted in anything but it just killed off the last throw of the dice for us. The roof would have been lifting as Hill kicked inside 50 if the correct call was made.

Hey fellas, good game. One thing I noticed in the last quarter was that other than Cripps and Kenndy, nobody was working hard forward of the ball. Whether that's work rate or the 6 day break I don't know.

Priddis arguably had a 'breather' all game though. The team got out to a very respectable 6 goal lead with him doing sweet **** all.

If there ever was a time for him to switch on, it was the 3rd and 4th quarters when they challenged us and eventually took over. He lifted considerably in the last quarter and i do praise him for holding onto the ball and then releasing an intelligent handball to schofield in the dying minutes which should have ended up in a goal, but really what other impact did he have on the game? He's supposed to be this elite mid/brownlow smoky and everything, this was the biggest game of the year, so when exactly did he take up some of the slack from Shuey and Gaff? He had no burden today, and Gaff was tagged FFS.

Maybe if other players stepped up, would have helped him out. Who can get in there, get the hard ball and dish out? No one. Priddis doing f all isn't reason other players do f all. They can step up. No one is stopping them. But alas, only thing they showed is that they cannot play better than slower, less agile priddis.

Sorry but.. what? Everyone DID step up, that is what i'm saying. Matt is one of the few people in the team yesterday who did NOT step up. I was just pointing out that he did nothing for 3 quarters. Shuey, Hurn and Gaff got us out to a 6 goal lead while Matt really hadn't got out of first gear.

From what i saw yesterday, he carried nothing. Which is good isn't it? Isn't that what you want, less load on Matt?

I wasn't happy with Simpson's PC at all. He raised excuses like the 6-day break, Butler's injury and also divorced himself from the player group. He's the coach. He should have recognised the risk of not bringing in fresh legs and he didn't. We had options in Colledge and Maginnes. He chose not to inject youth and run and he needs to accept that, not look for excuses and blame the players.

Good point ! didn't look at it that way !

To be fair to priddis still had 25 possessions and 7 tackles which is a fair game ! If that's a bad game for him we should take it and move on !

Half of our supporter base that has become consistently negative. It's becoming a real drainer to visit this board sometimes
And yet you don't mention any positives in your post only negatives. [emoji15]

I'll do a longer list later but Jamie Cripps' form since coming back into the team has been a positive. Aside from a 4 week period post-bye he's had a fairly good year, and I think as he adds some midfield minutes he'll a very handy player. If he can crack 30 goals a year 2015 onwards and up his disposal count that'll be a fairly good return going forward IMO.

I think we need to run him through the midfield at times just for his pace and attack on the footy. He's not always perfect but I think he's an upgrade on McGinnity.

The fact he ended up with 25 touches is miraculous.

He was unsighted for 3 quarters until finally he got out of nuetral in the last quarter. 25 touches or not, you would have to watch the actual game to make the conclusion that yes, he was very... very.... bad. He hurt us more then anything for most of the game with horrendous disposal, silly turnovers and poor decisions.

Only a peanut at AFL.com who reads the stats sheet would go..... "Awww yeah Matt still played OK, by no means 'bad' at any stretch"

Another thing that pissed me off was bomber Thomson saying the dons deserved to play finals after all they had been through...fair dinkum! The scum should have been banned for 3 years. Shits me how the AFL have allowed Essendon to twist it all around so that they have become the victims. That they are even still in the cmpetition is a big negative, for me. You just don't know how long that stuff injected into them lasts.

Hope Butler will be alright. He has really been important for us the last few weeks and his absence in the last qtr was telling. Good on him for turning it around, for answering the challenge to solidify his spot at this stage of his career.

Loss still hurts, but hope is still alive after last night's results.

Hurn having leather poisoning
JK's three in a row
McGovern taking out various essendon players

Our work rate in the first half
I started drinking a few beers in the third quarter which seemed to help

Our inability to destroy essendon when we had all the run in the first half
Darling moving like a steam train in one direction only
Nicnat - seriously he needs to go and take a look at a few tapes of Dean Cox's work rate from the early/mid 2000's and then replicate it. Just wandering around looking lost most of the time, pisses me off
Brereton commentating
Brereton commentating and saying how good a player Steinberg looked. This is despite the kid having 3 or 4 absolute clangers for his first touches in footy (unfortunately we couldnt do anything with the turnovers but thats another story). If it was an eagles player, you can bet the entire commentary team would have been bagging the absolute shit out of the guy.

I looked at it this way though EMGEE_6, he was trying something, he appeared, to me, to be trying to lift. Teenager against men and he was trying. I thought it was the most positive signs I have seen from Sheed yet, in that he was trying to win.

Don't get me wrong, he played a good game and he's definitely improving. He's starting to show why we picked him up last year now he's getting some good game time rather then being shoved in as sub. Just a couple of times where he had the ball and we were going forward it looked like he hesitated and made the pressure coming towards himself worse. Where as if he kicked it rather then hesitating that one second, he wouldn't have had so much pressure on him and may have executed his kick better.

I know there are a lot of Sheed bashers on this board. I was annoyed yesterday and still reeling when I posted my positives and negatives. I honestly believe he will be a great player and servant for the club. He NEEDS quality game time to improve and realise his potential though. Unlike those that believed he would be like a Judd and have immediate impact.

We played two quarter yesterday and switched off. Its something that's occurred a few times this year that the boys need to learn to break out of. Because we get heartbreak like yesterday when that happens. Play 4 quarters we win. Simple as that.

As I said if that's his bad game I'll take it ?

You say that like it's a good thing. He chose the worst possible time throughout the year to play his "bad game"

Personally i'd have preferred him to do it when we're bullying a shit team.

Priddis was BOG last week and not far off against the Crows but he was straight up awful yesterday. Absolute liability with the ball in hand. The net effect of his game was a negative for us.

+ I got to spend the day with some mates, sinking brews and watching football.

- Amongst the group were Essendon, Carlton and Freo supporters which caused this reaction at the end of the game;

Looks like the hole I put in my door in 2009, when we lost to Hawthorn in Tassie, another game where we dominated yet we still lose.
