Essendon won
Carlton lose

Those are the big two:p

Ahh spikey - can see that you have been very active on the board after the win my friend.. good stuff:thumbsu:

For me, it was predictably the young fellas.

David Myer's kick to Llyod in the last quarter over 55 metres was a beauty. I don't think I have seen him caught in possession of the footy yet. I think that would be rare in a young player

Reimers has now backed up for 2 good games in a row and looks very polished. I really enjoyed the AGE article on him today.

I thought Jetta was also good today - probably his best game since debut. Was involved in a few goals and some nice tackles. Progression slowly but clear improvement noted.

This is the first time since I was a teenager (early 90's) that I remember being excited about a young and developing list.

Positive - The game.

Was a cracker game, especially the last qtr

Thought Hille was outstanding, with the taps and around the ground, thought your forward line of Neagle, Lloyd (did very well today), and McPhee gave you a number of options up forward, while the Blues just had Fev.

Liked your run through the middle, ie. centre bounces you beat us very comfortably, you always seemed to have a clear player forward of the circle to handball to.

Also, your skills were very good. And, at the end of the day, you wanted the ball more

- Forward line looks the goods. Lloyd, Lucas and Neagle are proving to be a handful and not many clubs have 3 quality defenders to contain them. Through in a floating McPhee and a rejuvenated Monfries and it becomes very potent.

- Midfield. Hille, Watson, McVeigh, Welsh, Lonergan, Stanton are providing the hardness and the size to match it with most.

- Defence. Fletch is playing great footy(even though Fev kicked 7). Ryder has settled back down and his form is up. NLM is moving a lot better now, doesn't seem as hampered with the groin anymore.

- Kids. Reimers, Myers, Neagle, Jetta, Lonergan, Ryder.

Positives
-We're no where near maximum fitness
-Still massive room for improvement, with plenty of youngsters showing great signs and are only going to get better and better with more experience.
-The rise of David Hille
-Beating Carlton

Real positive- You beat Carlscum, that was the most enjoyable Essendon victory ever, good on ya's!

Watching Reimers today was good, really like how he goes about his footy, lot of confidence!

Finally winning two in a season against this mob.

Davey, Houli, Winderlich, Dempsey, Gumbleton, Hocking, Pears still to come.

Lonergan, Myers and Reimers were excellent.

The defence was a positive for me. Fletch, Nat - rat, Ryder and Rama were all good. If these guys can all be solid then it's a big step on the way to winning.

Midfield was fantastic. Stanton's 3rd quarter was very good.

Myers is an absolute gun.

Forwardline worked well. Will be even better once Scotty finds his feet.

Youngsters keep performing. :)

Stoppages - predominantly due to Hille's work

Monfries - was soo happy to see him deliver on his potential. Gave Armfield a lesson

Players seem to be getting more comfortable with their role in the team. McPhee, Welsh, Myers etc

Reimers

Stanton's disposal - was immaculate. He has been crucified for it but when you compare it to someone highly rated like Murphy's today, you get a better appreciation for it

We were challenged and I could see us curling into a ball and copping it, but instead we just kept attacking and ended up smashing them in the last ten minutes (just about the best 10 minutes I've ever witnessed)

To see the guys go around and thank the crowd - who in their right mind would want to see us tank, when instead kids like David Myers can experience a big win on a big stage. The experience is invaluable...

Hilles work in the ruck was brilliant to watch, he was so much bigger than cloke and Kruezer which just allowed him to pluck it out of the ruck and send it foward, got something like 8 clearences :thumbsu:

Monfries has been due for that sort of game for over a good year now, he constantly teased us with flashes of class, great 4 qtr performance.

Our ability to come back in the end was fantastic to see, when Carlton had all the momentum and hit the front i seriously thought we had choked this one away, but the boys just never gave up and ran all over them.

Reimers, damn i love this kid as im sure many do, he has this arrogant aura surrounding him, aker esq.

Hille's leadership and continous effort, without him we would've been stuffed

Myers finding plenty of the ball, just needs to work on using it

Monfries, excellent and was very damaging

Welsh, once again another great tagging job

Lloyd, following on from last week

Jetta getting into the play and snagging a goal (set shots need work)

Watson tried all day and won a lot of contested ball

Some of Stanton's kicks were excellent

Reimers.....do i need to say more?

Big Jay Neagle presenting and kicking a couple of goals

The fact that we finished off a game instead of losing it, shows that the players have a belief in themselves...

David Hille - another fantastic game
David Myers - a potential absolute gun
Knights - good matchups made logical moves
The rest - proud of youse all

Go Dons

i agreed with bruce mcavaney's comment that although laycock barely had a touch up until that crumbing goal (which was brilliant for a guy his size), he had a reasonably good day.
would we settle for that; having an elite ruckman in hille supported by laycock who is really only there to give hille a rest, but do so with some reasonably solid ruckwork? anyway, i guess that's for another thread, so in summary i guess even with little posessions i was happy with laycock's game

Hille's form of the last two games has been outstanding. I hope he takes some real belief out of it and continues to dominate matches.

Monfries hardness and work ethic.

Forward line looks extremely dangerous, and yes, there is a future there.

Reimers, surely a NAB rising star nomination coming his way.

Watson, handball and clearance work is second to none. We miss it when he's out.

Continued big games into Jetta, Neagle, Ryder and co.

Lloydy BACK!!! (Yes I did doubt you, but am glad to be proven wrong).

Knights - starting to show some good signs as coach.

Special mention to Fletcher... I shudder to think how many Fevola would have kicked without him.

You know everybody is right, Hille was a monster and guys like Lloyd, Gus, Myers, Reimers, Watson, Stants, NatRat plus others were fantastic but I think the game MVP should go to old man Fletch. I know, I know Fev kicked 7 but I watch the game again last night and the amount of times Fev was the target going forward was almost unprecedented. I dont know the figures but at a conservative guess out of perhaps 50 to 55 inside 50s for the Blues I would say Fev was the main target 30 odd times. To hold him to 8 scoring shots was fantastic considering there was no help, no ruckmen dropping in the hole, nothing! So due to Fletch's game we managed to keep our structure, play our game and most importantly WIN!

biggest positive for me was the fightback in the last quarter. to get abck the lead and trounce em like we did was unreal.

it would have hurt the scum bags even more aswell which was so so pleasing. . . :D

Can't argue there. I though Fletch was great yesterday.

You can tell by the fact that he got Champion data ranking of 124 points while Fev got 111.
