Hard to tell from that game but there are certainly some positives.
Palmer! Great to see him running and backing himself. His decision making and disposal was as good as it's been since 2008.
MJ, best game for the year. Duff, Crowley, Broughton ditto.
Grover & McPharlin continue to do the job.
Chrighton, Roberton & Pearce showed a bit.
4 points & a bit of percentage!

Would have loved to win by more, but a win is a win. Hope this gives Rhys the confidence to play the way he does best.
Big wrap to Nick Lower and, as always, Nat Fyfe :thumbsu:

Palmer was impressive.
MJ played his best game this year.
Lower is a star.
Mzungu looks the goods.
Crowley was also good in his tagging role.
Fyfe in AA form!!!

Good way to rebound :D

Palmer the massive positive. What I would do if he could recapture his potential.

Kepler continues to be very important, 4th in the coleman now beleive it or not.

Grover and Macca good as usual, but Duff and Broughton were both also very good today.

Fyfe outstanding again, Pavlich, Mundy and Sandi solid as usual. Lower very good all day.

Good team effort.

Palmer looked hungry. Been missing that for a while.

Crichton's disposal and composure in the first half was really good after he copped it a bit in his first few games for the year.

Johnno was better. if he can put a few of those together i might get off his back.

Pav's a forward. not a mid. cant wait to get more players back and watch him play his true position again.

Still loving Kep. Never stops trying.

we won!:)

  • winning
  • earning 4 premiership points
  • winning by a decent margin
  • Palmer's improvement
  • M. Johnson's improvement
  • Broughtons improvement
  • Duffman's improvement
  • Lower's first half
  • Fyfe's game
  • Getting a bit of confidence and form on the road
  • Grover and McPharlin leadin by example down back
  • Mzungu
  • Ballantynes work ethic
  • We moved, we ran, we attacked, we had a sense of urgency. All things we lacked in last week's loss.
  • We managed to win with so many first 22 players missing.

What a difference a week makes hey?

Plenty of positives, although we have to keep in mind that was an extremely poor effort by Port, particularly in the first half. We can't expect to encounter that complete lack of pressure in many other games this year.

Fyfe = almost the best player in the team already.

For me the most positive aspect is that a lot of guys down on form seemed to kick up a gear today (thanks Port!!!):
- Lower, who had been on the verge of being dropped, played a cracker;
- Palmer, looks to have run back into some form
- Crowley, few brainfade bombs and got a lot of it
- Johnno looked okay
- Crichton used it well
- Broughton got a fair bit of the pill after being down on form most of the year
- Ditto for Duffman

De Boer really seems to have stepped it up a bit this year also. Getting more of the pill. Using it really well.

Our midfield run seems to be back. Can't wait for Mzungu to go a whole game, he has the potential to give Fyfe like run all game.

Pav, Balla, Hill had average days, but it didn't matter.

On Hill, if he is not injured, he is very down on confidence. Had a few opportunities to put his foot down and burst away, but once, ducked back and got tackled and other times just chose to handball it to an inferior kicker. In fact, that shows that he is quite down on confidence IMO. Where is that dashing runner who weaved his way in and out of players?

Positives
We won easily without Mundy, an Pav having much influence.
Pav showed in 1st half he needs to be played forward.
Mzungu came in an looked right at home.
Palmer
Biggest positive
We took the game on an looked to try an bring the ball through the corridor more.

  • Duffield up in the midfield
  • Johnson moving around the ground
  • Palmer in the middle
  • Pavlich pushing deep forward
  • Mzungu debut
  • Mayne continually running hard
  • Crowley looked better in the middle

Look I know it's only Port, but sometimes these type of games can run players back into form.

Confidence lifts, the team wins again on the road..

Yea, I'm hopping so. I know in our not so glorious days we used to do it to opposition teams. There was a string some time in the early 2000's where every team that played us won the week after, we used to just play teams into form. Could be pure coincidence, but let's hope Port have returned the favour for us.

As with everybody else, big positive was Palmer - keep at it Rhys :thumbsu:

You guys looked good this arvo but you have to take into consideration Port were pretty bad in lots of patches today. Broughton, Grover and Duffields improvement if maintained will be more important than all of those other positives combined I think.

I think Grover has been good most games this season actually.
We looked a hell of a lot better than last week that's for sure.
We had serious intent and we kicked very well.
We play the Saints next week, and all going well should be back on track against the Hawks and Bummers.

Yeah I noticed that, I wonder that's of his coaches instruction or just force of habit?

Just Pav doing what most attacking midfielders do, they drift fwd and become marking targets - he's done it in just about every game this year. This time he was on the end of a few more and converted a bit better (sort of), that's all.

Does anyone else notice that the last couple of weeks Chrichton has started off really well in the first quarter and gathered a few touches. But then he drifts out of the game which may just indicate lack of fitness.

How was Fyfe's run down the wing???? Showed plenty of confidence and dash. Would of been great if he nailed the goal!

Best positive is that while Pav and Mundy were servicable the rest of the team were not passengers in this game.

De Boer is showing that he is gonna be an ultra important team player for the rest of his career.

Oh Yeah, and for GOD'S sake we need to re-sign Fyfe ASAP to keep him from GWS; just incase.
