Just a few points. the trades seem fairly reasonable but we can't lose both Bartel and Spriggs. I doubt if the Power would trade Salopek for Enright but if they are desperate to win the flag next year who knows but I seriously doubt it. Ricco won't retire and DJ is contracted so they will stay. Also N. Ablett won't be at Geelong next year and anyway we would have to use our 2nd rd pick, not two 3rd rounders.

here's mine

TRADES
1. Street for Ess/StK's 3rd round pick (or better if we can, ie + fringe player)
2. Spriggs + Wojcinski + 3rd round for Whitnall
3. Pick 22 + Clarke for Trent Croad
4. Kingsley + Gardiner for Joel Bowden
5. Mooney to North/WCE or WB. All are interested. Maybe a three way trade with one of those clubs + our 4th rd to get a Notting/Shaddock

Pick up Leon Davis with pick 5 of the Preseason Draft
List changes
IN: Whitnall, Croad, Bowden, Notting, Pick 7(chaplain), Blake, Pick 70, Davis, 2 rookie elevations.
OUT: Spriggs, Mooney, Kingsley, Clarke, Street, Woolnough, White, Lord, Wojcinski, Gardiner

Team
B Rooke Scarlett Milburn
HB Graham Harley Enright
C Bowden Corey Notting
HF Ablett Whitnall Croad
F Johnson McCarthy Chapman
R King Ling Bartel

Inter: Riccardi Sanderson Kelly Mackie

What do you think? Salary cap would be a big problem esp Croad. Are the trades reasonable? We would have turned over a lot of players. If we managed to pull this off I think we would all be very excited next year.

Here is my view of things.
Delistings:

Daniel Foster.
Ben Finnin.
Brent Grgic.
Mitchell White (retired)
Marc Woolnough (retired)
Aaron Lord (retired)

Josh Hunt, and David Johnson must be retained for the fact that Hunt is a real talenterd hard nut in and under type of player who was robbed because of injury this year. Saw him play really well on a back flank against us (Kangas) in 2001 and though Gee this kid is gonna be a good player. He also has a mature body size about him so he basically needs to stay on the park to show you cats fans what he can do.
Johnno is still learning the game and with another pre season under his belt should be able to make 2004 his year somewhere in the backhalf / midfield.
Funnily enough i also think that Geelong should hold onto Peter Street for another year ........ i saw a whole new player in round 22 and maybe, just maybe that will be the turning point in his career. It is a proven fact that ruckmen dont mature til they are about 24 or 25 and what is he? 22? 23? Gees he is 208cm and over 100kg.... pretty much a ready made ruckmen who just needs some game time to be consistent.
There are plenty of teams who play 3 rucks in the one team ...... and i think that the King / street / chambers combination could be very crucial to the rise of Geelong in 2004. You have King (the big powerful leader) Street (the height advantage and tap artist) and Chambers (who has a very good leap ala Jeff White) ..... seems good too me, and if Street were to go to another team then it might be a mistake that will haunt thegeelong coaching staff for years to come.

Traded:
James Rahilly and 3rd round pick to West Coast in return for David Wirrpunda.
Cameron Mooney and David Clarke to Hawthorn In return for Angelo Lekkas.
David Wojcinski + draft pick to Kangaroos ..... Heath Black to Geelong .... and Dylan Smith plus geelongs draft pick to st.kilda.

Im not saying that these will happen .... but i think that with the Additions of Wirrpunda , Lekkas , and Black it would hold geelong in good stead with the ability to rotate some experienced midfielders all the time.

Line up:
POSSIBLE FOR ROUND ONE

B: Milburn Scarlett Wirrpunda
HB: Hunt Harley Rooke
C: Enright Ling Black
HF: Lekkas Graham Chapman
F: Ablett McCarthy Kingsley
R: King Corey Spriggs
I: S.Johnson Moloney Street Chambers
E: Playfair Riccardi Sanderson.

Looks like a pretty steady line up but i dont know what you guys think, its just an interesting topic thats all.

I like your thinking, but I think they'll give Finnin one more year, if only because it isn't expected to be a big draft this year, and I don't think Geelong will need more than four draft picks this year (1 for M.Blake, N.ablett wont come this year). Would be interested if they offer White and assistant coaching role next year.

I agree about Street, the club would be mad to get rid of him, unless as a trade of some weight (unlike Clarke), even if he is a social misfit.

Jim i reckon we should only use three selections in the draft this year. The AFL rules state that each club must use three draft selections. Keep our first pick (I know it will be tough), Trade pick 22, get Blake with 3rd pick, trade 4th pick, then use our late pick on a smokey.

I agree, but I reckon we should also aim to have one pick in the pre-season draft next year. Maloney showed this year that good picks can emerge over the summer, or disgruntled players. And even if there isn't a good choice going, it can always be used on a promotion for a rookie like Shannon Byrnes.

Which reminds me, how many rookies will be elevated to the senior list this year?

Any possibility of the club doing what they did a few years ago in delisting some players, only to redraft them?

I guess it depends how the trade period pans out. If we get a Whitnall or Rawlings and can't get rid of a Mooney or Kingsley they might delist one of them and hope that another club will pick up their contracts. Grgic could be in a similar position. If we keep pick 7 in the hope of selecting one of the quality KP backman and they are snaffled up they could redraft him as cover (assuming he is delisted of course).

Actually now that i think of it, Geelong would be mad not to go for some one like Scott Lucas who is out of contract now.... can play forward or back and would be a great addition because there arent too many utilities who are over 190 and who are mobile.

i cant believe no one picked up on these. mate you are kidding yourself if you think WCE would take that trade, i hope you realise what everyone else (bar geelong supporters) realises that james rahilly is crap and you would need the no.1 pick to go with him for wirrpunda, not a 3rd round pick.

mooney and clarke for lekkas, why would hawthorn want to take geelong rejects so that they can lose possibly there next captain?? just cos you give them 2 rejects instead of one doesnt make it any more appealing you know.

that final trade has some merit to it, but i doubt black would wanna go to geelong, and a lot would depend on the draft pick that goes with wojcinski.

you are kidding right, i understand that he is a north supporter, that doesnt mean that i wont question something he says just cos he supports the same team as me. those trades he suggested were mostly ridiculous and i dont see how the fact that he supports north has anything to do with it.

however i would expect nothing less from you JUBJUB, another one-lined pearler!!

oh yeah... <---- clever stuff that JUB, i can do it too

why are they ridiculous mate?
and getting david calthorpe, ricky olarenshaw and david bourke wasnt.
Trades like these had been done before ......... Groom to north, Mcleod to adelaide and someone else to freo.
We gave up Cam Mooney and a few others for Leigh Colbert ...... theKane hojnson deal last year. Lekkas is out of contract and has recieved interest from many clubs including GEELONG ..... and in that case there should be no trades ...... because you could basically say they are all ridiculous.
And dont just think that no outrageous trades will happen .... because reality check THEY WILL they do every year. Woewodin for pick 15 lol some dud.

cos wirrpunda is much better then rahilly and a 3rd round pick, lekkas is much better then 2 ordinary geelong players. the other one u mentioned was ok.

yeah bad trades always happen, but at the time they dont seam that bad, these ones do. calthorpe was part of the colbert deal basically as an added extra, we didnt go after him. same with olarenshaw in the bell trade. we gave up pick 3473 or something for david bourke and richmond payed for him, not too bad a deal.
