Possible coaches #1: Eade

I think he is the best coach available.
Took Sydney to a Grand Final.
Good innovative coach - He was the pioneer for flooding.
Can we afford him? Would he rather take the Collingwood position or coach us?

Your a mind reader Dry Rot.Was just in the middle of doing a similar thread rating all the coaches.Would be good to keep it all to just a few threads because there is a ridiculous amount of threads already running. Are you going to do one of these for every candidate DR?Heres my pros and cons for Eade

Eade-Overall a pretty decent coach.Just whether his strengths and weaknesses suit us.

Positives
*Good tactically
*Has had success before
*Commands respect
*Will not be afraid to make tough decisions.
*Knows the weaknesses of our playing list due to coaching against us.

Negatives
*In previous stint took over after Barrassi did much of the hard work.Question mark over development of young players.
*Seems to chop and change tactics fairly regularly to suit oppositions style as opposed to sticking to one succesful formula.
*Cost?

Not totally sold on him yet.The more I analyse it the more I talk myself out of it.Still prefer him to the other experienced coaches at this stage.Respect and experience that he has outweigh any weaknesses he has.Would be pretty accepting of him as a choice.

Good defensive mind and gameplan. Really something we need, imo.
Would demand respect (from everyone!..inc. senior players)
Obviously an outside view, would be good at 'cleaning out' the list, and would have a fair idea which types he would be looking to recruit.

Obviously $$ could be a barrier...But possibly not.
Let's be honest, I'm sure he is well off (previous coaching, fox contract)...at least comfortable, and I'm sure he would rather be seen as a 'coach' than an assistant in a Collingwood type role.

I guess it depends on how he sees the list (that goes for Ayres and others too obviously)...and I would believe that this would be a major factor in any decision, rather than the cash, imo.

AS long as the new coach is someone from OUTSIDE the kennel I'll be happy. Obviously we all have our favourites, but I think it would be a STUPID mistake on the boards behalf if they gave the job to Libba or Royal.

I don't think Eade would be the righr one, but I agree we need someone from outside the club. I would prefer a younger coach who has ideas and is tough e.g., Mark Harvey, Gary O'Donnell both of whom have served apprenticeships with successful coaches.

hey guys

as a swans fan i can highly recomend (sp) eade. he got a bit of bad press when he left the swans which i thought was a bit unfair. all this talk about him being a negative coach is rubbish

the only criticism i have is that he didn't giv ethe youngsters enough of a chance, however i'm sure pressure from management for instant success had an impact on that

quality coach, however the time was right for both him and the swans to part company, i'm sure he would have learnt a bit from his time out of footy

furthermore, he is a very good media performer

btw harvey is a dud, i really don't know what anyone coaching potential anyone sees in him

Well, Mike Sheehan says we should look at him, which is almost enough to turn me right off him now.

That said, he confirmed his interest in the job in the Hun, so we're a chance.

At the moment, he's my choice, but I could change my mind soon and I'm not on the selection committee anyway so who really cares?

I hope we get Eade - apparently he has said he would like to coach us [Hun] - maybe within our price range? Sheehan's article makes sense - strongly supports him - he got the Swans into the finals 5 out of 6 years, 54% win rate with them [better than any of our post war coaches] and got them from 12th to a GF in his first year.

Less of a risk than an untried coach and we could do without another disaster.

Better check out the records of messers Wheeler and Wallace

Looking at his record i take back my coments in another thread and hope we consider Eade.

I thought that was one of his criticisms when he was coaching the Swans; that he was a brilliant tactician on match days but did very little to sell the club during the week. That is the only negative I can think of for Eade, but I'm sure his polished work in the media over the last couple of years has strengthened this up no end. Offer him the 350-400K needed to get him and let's get on with restoring our great club. Roll on 2005!
