who do we all think will be on the chopping block end of year and who do u think will be thrown up as trade bait??

i personally think we need to delist oakley-nicholls, been in the system long enough and doesnt look like getting a permanent spot in our best 22

ray hall will be gone end of year no questins about it!

ne1 else?

Why do you consider 2nd season long enough?

Hall
Knobel
Moore
Hyde
Hartigan
Krakouer
Kingsley

These 7 will go + Gaspar. Jackson and Tivendale might get lucky.

So you want to de-list JON cause he cant get a permanent spot in his second year, yet Hyde who cant get a spot at the age of 25 should remain.

HIGGINS: rover
JONES: centre

Hard to compare JoN to those two when rovers/runners can establish themselves much quicker.

The only one you could compare to JoN below him that's been successful is Birch for the Hawkers.

No one below JoN apart from those three is dominating, look at the big guys. big boys: Drum, just getting started, Clark, just getting started, Bower, just getting started.

See what I'm getting at????

Its too short of a call to delist JoN. One more year and he's in the firing line.

Like Meyer should be now but he seems to be the future god. But he never delivers.

I would keep JON, Meyer and Tambling and try to turn them from hb pencils into 4b pencils over summer - build your bodies up boys.

I like Hartigan's physicality, but he hasn't shown much. He could turn into a Campbell Brown type of player at a better club.

I would cut Tivendale, Hyde, Moore, Hall, Kingsley, Krak, Knobel - all have had their chances and not done enough.

I can also see Johnson's and Bowden's contracts not being renewed when they next come up.

These are the player I think will be close to going or gone next year.

Chris Hyde - CLOSE/TRADE???
Kel Moore - GONE
Ray Hall - GONE
Kent Kingsley - GONE
Andrew Krakouer - GONE/TRADE.
Trent Knobel - GONE.
Brent Hartigan - VERY CLOSE/TRADE???
Greg Tivendale - CLOSE(Been Dropped a few times this year for poor form so it is obvious Terry is no longer taking his shit).
Danny Meyer - CLOSE/TRADE???
Jay Schulz - CLOSE/TRADE???(Would like to see him play out of the goal square and have Richo move up the ground more, or try him as a Key Defender before cutting or trading him though)

So that would be 5 gone and maybe 1 to 2 more traded or delisted, depending on who or what we get for the trades I would expect something like this, 4 or 5 picks in the NAB Draft(Depending on trades and/or an extra delisting), 1 Rookie Elevation(Out of Graham, Howat or King), PSD pick and I am not sure if Browny would qualify for a Veteran spot or not, as he will be 30yo once next season starts but wouldn't be when the list's have to be in.

Trade (but keep if suitable offer not forthcoming)

Chris Hyde (Pick 30-40)
Greg Tivendale (Pick 30-40)
Ray Hall (Pick 40-60)
Kayne Pettifer (1st Round)
Andrew Krakuoer (Pick 40-60)
Joel Bowden (love him, but this is about the future - Top 10 pick or he stays)

Trade (but delist if no offer)

Brent Hartigan
Kelvin Moore

Consider Delisting (Not really tradeable)

Patrick Bowden
Trent Knobel

Delist

Darren Gaspar
Kent Kingsley

That's potentially twelve players out, but more realistically would be 8 to 10. No players in, all draft picks.

Agree.

Nailed it with that one ghost. Renovation complete. Then we spend the next 2 years decorating.
Whatever happens with the first group you suggest as "Trade (but keep if suitable offer not forthcoming". If we keep, then we must get to the point where those players are part of the depth and not part of the number 1 starting line up. When we get to that point, then we become contenders. ;)

ffs JON hasn't even had a proper preseason yet!

Exactelly and hes starting to show a bit of form in the ressies and actually having a dip, leave the kid alone it would be one of the dumbest things we could do to delist a top 15 draft pick that hasnt even had a proper preseason under hes belt!

I agree with everyone named except hyde might get 1 more year.

Not bad Ghost, but I would suggest the following:

Rather than trading our fringe players for late picks, we will instead be focusing on upgrading picks for example Krakouer and our 3rd for Port's 2nd round pick. Given the nature of this draft, improving the picks we have will be of a lot more use than picking up more late selections. Not many teams will be picking players after the 4th round so we'll have largely free selections at that point anyway.

In theory keeping Knobel makes sense but his injuries have dragged on too long without any sign of improving so I think he's done. He would have been nice to keep because we need an experienced body as a backup and he would have been cheap. Instead we'll probably target someone similar in the PSD or a trade. At this point it's too much of a risk keeping him on.

I think on the rookie list we'll upgrade Jake King as I believe he's too old for another year as a rookie. I think we'll now keep Gus on as a rookie for another season, has shown enough for that, but probably not for full promotion yet. No harm in another development year and chances are we'll be picking up 2 ruckmen in the off season. To be honest, I'm not a big Howat fan, I don't think he's shown any improvement on last season and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him gone. Clingan might be in a little danger, got through to Coburg seniors but then injury problems.

In a perfect world I'd love to see our rookie list pretty much always contain one KPP, one ruck, one centreman and one flanker. In reality it'll be more like one back pocket and three flankers....

Trade (but keep if suitable offer not forthcoming)

Chris Hyde
Greg Tivendale
Kayne Pettifer
Andrew Krakouer

Delist

Darren Gaspar
Kent Kingsley
Trent Knobel
Kelvin Moore
Ray Hall
Brent Hartigan

Rookies

Upgrade King
Keep Graham on Rookie List
Delist Howatt
Clingan?

Others

Krak, Jackson and Meyer will be lucky to survive, all depends if we see value late in the draft for additional picks.

Overall

6 Delistings (minimum), and putting King on the main list, would give us 4 picks in the National Draft and 1 pick in the PSD.

JON won't be delisted, he was a 1st round DP.

Meyer is a tough one to figure out, if he wants out then let him go. If not, 2008 is a very important one for him.

Kent - Gone
Hall - Gone
Knobel - Gone
Moore - Gone
Hartigan - Gone
Gaspar - Already Gone

Depending on what we do with Jackson, White + Schulz, 1 or maybe 2 of Tivva, Krak & Hyde should go.

Exactly Cogga. They are going to be the Shannon Byrnes and Rowan Jones of our team - not in the best 22 but can adequately fill a spot for half of the H&A phase of the season when injuries inevitably take a toll on our best players.

I should also add that the "Trade (but keep if suitable offer not forthcoming" group would be offered a reduced $ contract to reflect their reduced importance.

Yeah, good point Jezza. Upgraded draft picks would be great way to deal with our fringe players.
