And Melbourne will keep the faith in No. 4 draft pick Jimmy Toumpas with another contract extension.

Toumpas, 21, is expected to sign a two-year deal in the next week.

Toumpas had been unable to cement his position in the Demons’ midfield in nine games this season, leaving a cloud over his future.

But I guess he never did sign it.

They want him to stay and are calling his bluff about leaving. If a club really want him, thery will offer something of value.

If Brisbane play "hardball" and refuse to trade, but he is determined to leave. Is massively unlikely (why let him go when you can get something) but I would be curious to see it.

I kind of wish people would stop getting their hopes up for Bennell, Cockatoo, Neale, Murdoch types coming here in trade so I don't then have to scroll through so many posts calling the club crap when we don't get them.

The only reason it's outlandish is because he'd have to nominate our club as his 'club of choice'. Everything seems to indicate he's going to Victoria (Richmond or North) or to one of the WA clubs (Freo more likely).

I'm sure we've made enquiries, but you'd have to say it's unlikely that a star player with no ties to SA would elect to come here based on history.

So we recruit them against their will? Guys like Neale and Murdoch obviously don't want to leave their current clubs, Cats won't give up Cockatoo under any circumstances and Bennell has shown he wants to be in Western Australia. There's not much the Crows can do about any of that.

Sure he does. Every AFL player gets to decide where he plays if he's involved in a trade. They can't trade him against his will.

The current story goes that Bennell wants to go back to Perth to be with his mates family, but his management desperately wants him to go to Victoria, because they think he's a better chance to have a longer (and more lucrative for them) career there.

So surely we'd have a couple other players on the chopping block or trade bait seen as we only have 2 current national draft positions? Or am I wrong and it's 3 including Danger? I can only think of Kelly and O'Brien as the two who'll be upgraded.

I'm not sure what the process is but we can still delist more player(s) can't we? Word is Shaw is about to sign a two year deal very similar to Otten.

You'd think one if not a couple of this list would be traded or delisted if a home isn't found but I'm more than confident if need be they'd all find another club even if that's as a rookie. Not saying I want them gone, especially not the first 3 but aren't signed up yet and not getting consistent games except Wright -
