I agree with most of you guys, but what our greatest deficiency IMO is we have to stop playing above our means. Sounds weird but let me explain, Malthouse has a talent for getting the best out of our group, and we always look the goods until we come up against the best teams of the year.

Although Malthouse's game plan of playing the boundary suits us to a tee in the home and away rounds, come finals it is useless against the better teams, Stkilda last season and again this season and Geelong.

There is a point in the season where Malthouse has to make a judgement call, and teach us something new, the excuse that we have no superstars is starting to wear thin. Give them a shot at bringing the ball down the centre, even if he wants to introduce it gradually, 10% of game time at the start of the season, but come end have it closer to 50 - 60% of our game played through the middle, and use discretion if it is not working against a particular team.

I would for once like to go into a finals series with the right expectations, how is it possible that we could have the best second half of the season, and dish up that rubbish come finals, it is beyond comprehension, unless we get a good understanding if we can match it with the best teams by playing a good type of game, when it really counts we are always going to fall over.

Malthouse has to stop playing players out of position, they earnt their spot in that position for a reason, not everyone can be turned into a midfielder, Davis and Didak may be good for six or seven games but they are not permanent midfielders, let them do what they are best at and that is score board pressure.

This is not a Malthouse Bashing, I am one of his supporters and will be until he goes, I would just love to see the real Collingwood, not one that is trying to look great when it is not.

i'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it, but I thought the team was just tired and this was the main factor in the poor finals showing esp last week.. There was some talk during the year about managing rests etc to keep players fresh, but I don't think it was done nearly enough.

Also I think this was the first full year of playig Didak and Leon as regular mids, I think they needed to be managed better, they were burnt out and without Pendles they didn't have enough left. Obvioulsy it's taken a number of years for them to become full midfielders, so they don't have naturally big tanks anyway, and they were overworked with insufficient rests. The performances in the finals apart from first halves and vs Adelaide, did not reflect the quality of the team by a long shot.

Hopefully buckley is more aware of this - my fear is that he had such huge stamina himself that he might not appreciate what it's like to be a mere mortal, and may repeat the same mistake.

Anyway most posters are overreacting, the team will be very good next year with lots of improvement in the younger players.
