Saw some recent stats on ruckmen in the Sunday Age:
for the ten blokes listed, Grundy was second last (in front of only Pederson) for 'Hit outs to advantage %', with a figure of 20.9% (Witts' number was 31.3%, but that's a different topic).
As you say, Grundy has other great attributes, but hit outs to advantage are one form of footy gold, so open question:
How much is on Grundy, how much is on the clearance plans or players and how much is on the club for having Anthony Rocca as our ruck coach?
I probably should have added Grundy's hit out stats are over rated. As you have shown 80% of his tap work is ineffective (to us anyway). I would like to know his hitout stats for advantage to the opposition. Hard for us to be consistently dominant in the middle when our guys are guessing his work. It showed in the 2nd half how the Dees were using Grundy. Sharking the tap work at will. He was no way the reason we lost but if we are to get better then he needs coaching and improvement otherwise we are better having someone else doing better tap work and have another mobile and skilled player around the ground. At the moment he isn't good at jumping or rucking and he wouldn't get a game based solely on his skills, speed and smarts around the ground. Something needs to change and we should be starting with a ruck coach.

He did show some composure yesterday dropping the eyes and hitting some targets. He took a couple of grabs so I thought it was an improved game from him. He just needs to be more damaging at his main role. Imagine how our midfield would go with Nic Nat, Gawn or Jacobs

Well you could say Moore is a Better Tap Ruckman then Grundy

Moore is surprisingly good and times his jumps very well.
Cox I think has the most upside to his tap work but unfortunately that's all he is good at. If he could build his tank and cover the ground for most of the game then that may have some merit as he would bottle feed our mids.

I think a key thing missing from Grundy's and Cox's game is the ability to take a grab and use their height to advantage. Grundy actually plucked a few yesterday and Cox in the VFL did as well. Should they start doing this it gives them a whole new dimension as players. It is frustrating at times that they don't do it more as a lot of relieving kicks get sent in their direction, however if they were marking at will they would be played as KPFs and not ruckmen I guess.

Why would Anthony Hudson say he would be furious if he was a Pie fan? I'd like you to explain this mad Geelong supporter's motivation for making such a comment.
Possibly he has eyes...receptors which transfer information to the brain....I believe Geelong supporters have them too.

Usually they are crossed though.

I thought you had more quality players out but they were all replaceable. Can't replace a gun FF and an AA ruck
Gun FF? Who would that me? I know you have a sooky, very ordinary player by the name of Hogan. Is that your "gun"?

How about we remove Petracca (Elliott), Oliver/Viney (Wells) , McDonald (Reid) , Hunt (Varcoe), and pick another mobile defender (Goldy) and you can have Gawn and Hogan. Would that make a difference?

Especially the lack of experience and composure across the back.
Shazza was very good up until that........
I'll stop there.

He will benefit from the run and he's not the first in our backline to gift a goal.....

Love that Gav Crossisca is calling out the umps too.

I agree Shazz looked good.

Dunn, Howe, Goldsack: are Solid
SBurger, Maynard: will become very good with another season.

Smith, Schade, Ramma (& Keefe): I'm not sure about. Maybe making up the numbers at this stage but time will tell.
Oxley & Langdon: Same as above but possibly more potential?

McCarthy & McClarty: Not sure how they are progressing but we will need to draft well over the next 2 years to bring in some KPP options.

Reid: Looks to be cooked. Prefer Dunn in defense and prefer White in the forward line.

Tad Harsh. Jayden Hunt would burn anyone, the headband has next level speed and acceleration. I have been a bit critical of Phillips in the past but both his goals and the one he set up to sidebottom gives me a more positive feel towards him. The pleasing thing about the first goal he kicked was he took his time, summed up the situation and delivered a perfect snap. Many young players in that situation we see just chuck it on the boot. His second goal while a relatively easy goal, I don't think we can under sell the pick up at pace also given the stage of the match.

In saying that Phillips worries me with his decision making, but yesterday's game was much better!

Phillips has really poor defensive running habits. He can all too often be seen trailing his opponent by lots and only makes the effort to close them down when it's too late and his opponent has been used. Nothing to do with the pace of his opponent, just poor practice. Stay closer and they don't become viable links in transition.

But Hine and Bucks and co like there Contested Mids that are Poor Kicks

Weren't you the 1 defending Adams when many of us were highlighting his disposal has issue after he arrived?

For the record, I think he's improved his disposal a lot. Had a couple of ordinary kicks yesterday. I don't include the intercept by Petracca as he was just good enough to close the space and cut it off, that happens.

Phillips is going to be a solid foot soldier at the bare minimum, maybe more.

Smith was very good I thought, constantly being put under undue pressure by dumb hand passes to him in poor position.

Melbourne got the rub of the 50/50s from the ump yesterday, but that did not cost us the game.
To many mistakes in our back half, gifted goals to them when we took the wrong options. Those late two goals Melbourne got in the second really hurt us, swung the momentum back there way gave them belief. And also later on
Our Team was there own worst enemy's, and nearly and should have won.
First time this year up beat over a loss, cause there is so much more improvement in us. A lot went wrong, but a fair bit more went right
