Thought he started very well. His 1st Q showed the best glimpses I have seen from at AFL level. Went a bit quiet after that but was a step forward for mine.

GC, I know you are not convinced about Schazza, and that you think his injuries have significantly impacted on his development. But are you starting to have more faith? I'd like to see him play every game for the remainder of the year - a bit like we did with Maynard last year. Just play him, as pablo says! Its the only way we'll find out if his high draft position was justified.

Can't link here.
It was on his twitter re-posted on Facebook "Extreme Black and White group"
Thanks - got it

So not coaching?

I wanted to shave his head yesterday! After every contest #howdoilook? #fixmymanbun! For f sake!think about your footy young man.
Sinclair will make a big difference along with Varcoe down back, both players break lines and will be our get out of jail player on the run ( Christ, starting to sound like Healy)

benny Sinclair one of my faves but in reality people are doing a Toovey with him remember when the club put out that bullshit statement about Toovey being our best defender when he was injured and everyone lapped it up then reality hit when he came back love Ben but he needs to progress and fast.

This loss has hurt and hurt deep....we are better than our ladder position suggests....however the sign of a good team is winning the close ones....2 more minutes and we would of won

Who was in the concrete boots chasing Watts?
Adams was right in front of me he was absolutely stuffed he was going up and down on the one spot so was the rest of them anyone there would have seen we were gone in the last and was actually a real gutsy effort to go to the wire but we needed luck the kind of luck Melbourne got.

Reckon he wasn't alone?

Never said he was.

Just pointing out that he definitely wasn't one of our best, which was the point you'll see I was clearly refuting by quoting TD's post.

Not sure what you were trying to achieve there...

I am certain this would have been mentioned earlier. After watching the last quarter again. The umpires were poor and they were poor all game, still CFC had many opportunities to ice the game but butchered them. CFC missing simple marks and not kicking goals from 35m directly in front was extremely costly. Another day possibly a different result.

I don't want to single out any one player but who was on Hunt? Besides Petrecca I thought Hunt was instrumental in getting Melbourne back in the contest. He was running a muck on the wing.

Anyway I am a glass half full person, while CFC lost and are perilously close to not making finals the list is developing. Finally the new wave of players promised are taking ownership and it is exciting! Looking forward to PA at the G.

Phillips is going to be a solid foot soldier at the bare minimum, maybe more.

I do find it amusing reading how different players are assessed. Smith gets ridiculed because he takes safe options, Adams because he doesn't. Ideally both would move a little closer together on the spectrum but it's an instinctive game and players make hundreds of high pressure split second decisions every game. They'll get some right, some wrong, that's life. I'm happy to see players taking the game on, however they choose to do it.

We have a number of developing fringe types. Phillips, Smith, Langdon, Ramsay, Schade, Wills, Broomhead, Aish. All have deficiencies in their game that they need to improve but equally they've all shown enough signs to suggest they could be players. What we need is for 1 or more of them to step up in much the same way as Maynard has.

We need all of them to get into that 75 to 100 game zone.....with their side.
We need them to become "experienced" players.

Not our best defender, our best small defender. Varcoe is close, Ramsay showed signs before his ACL.

I think it would be better to say I worry his injuries have impacted his development. More than anything I think we need to see him as a slow burn and give him time. I thought he showed a fair bit more in the 1st Q on Monday, was very happy with him at that point and the game overall was another step forward

I don't think he necessarily needs to play every game for the rest of the season. Don't like the idea of gifting games to anyone. Still there is a fair chance he will stay in the 22 the rest of the season earned. That's what I hope he does. At times he and Langdon may be fighting for a spot depending on what happens when Varcoe, Reid, Sinclair and Sack are available. They both need gametime but it won't be a great problem if either or both need a bit of VFL time. That's good depth.

As Bucks said, good teams build sufficient advantage to offset the vagaries of things like umpiring decisions. We didn't build enough advantage.
No we built enough advantage as we have previously this year but we always give it up, why? Coz we're just not that good - simple as. Good teams keep feisty opposition at arms length - we didn't and seems we can't.

Think that's the basis of it but the difference at the moment between being good or not good enough is pretty small. I feel we have improved but also there are lots of teams in a similar level. It's for that reason our upward path is not fait accompli. Still lot of work to do and uncertainty about us taking the next steps.

Disappointing result in the end we can't blame umpires critical turnovers in the 2nd qtr killed us and not taking advantage of Grundy's dominant performance in the ruck.
Why pendles wasn't moved down forward is a question that needs to be asked, all week it was mentioned that they would tag him.
We can't play Shazza and Langdon in the same team much the same and to one paced for Langdon needs to go.
Next 2 games a must wins of we hope to make finals.

Exactly! We keep getting optimised about "honourable losses" where we play well or beating fancied opponents; this for the last 3 to 4 yrs but it never comes to fruition and for me (gonna put on my superstitious hat on here - even though I'm not) it feels like we are cursed because of that stupid succession plan and I can see no light at the end of the tunnel

Agreed but we're are still on the wrong side of that ledger; and that's where we're at. TBH I think the optimism on the forum right now is well optimistic

I'm still relatively optimistic. I don't think we'll make finals this year, as realistically we have to win 7 of our last 10. I think we'll get close, but just fall short. Our start to the year will ultimately cost us.

But if I look over a 5 week period, we've fallen less than a kick to GWS and Melbourne, and beaten Hawthorn, Brisbane and Freo. If you take it back another fortnight we also had that good win against Geelong, and one absolute shocker against Carlton.

So I think we've finally found some consistency in performance, and we are pumping games into some key youngsters. Our formline is ok.

I'm starting to see a game-plan emerge, and I think we've started to get it right at selection. We've made the right calls on guys like Blair, Cox and Mayne at VFL level, and given games to Scharenberg, Broomhead, Aish and Phillips. I'd still like to see a bit of creativity on match day, but I'm also conscious of the fact Buckley has wanted to settle the side down and get it playing cohesively, and that probably means not shuffling the deck chairs too much.

The second half of the year is going to be really telling. In fact, the next fortnight is. Where Buckley stands in all this I don't know. I don't think he has to make finals anymore, but the form has to stay consistent. The issue is that I think the worst thing for the side is another finish between 9th-12th. We'd be much better playing youth and finishing bottom 6 so we get a better draw next year and a better pick. Buckley won't survive a bottom 6 finish though.

Interesting times ahead.

28 points is nothing in modern footy and clearly it wasn't enough advantage. I'd say we are a good team and a team on the improve. As are Melbourne. As are 6-7 other sides. Good teams don't make the top 4 though.

Just flicked on the TV and saw the last few minutes again and somehow brought myself to watch it. Couple things.

1. When the scores were 98-93 (prior to the Watts sealer) Adams had the ball from a uncontested mark about 70m out, I didn't think his option was good. It was a kick to De Goey which needed a perfect kick to hit him, not just that it would of put De Goey 40m out close to the boundary. He didn't mark it and melbourne rebounded for the watts goal. Wouldn't the best thing in that situation be long kick to the top of the square? It's harder to rebound cleanly in that position and a better chance for us to score

2. After Watts kicked the goal at the next centre bounce we got the clearance and Adams was kicking inside 50, he clearly got pushed in the back as he kicked and It effected the kick and it wasn't called (even Tim Watson said he thought it was a push)

3. The very next play where the ball went from the Adams kick, Hunt got it and tried to take it on coming out of defence, treloar got him and he dropped it, they didn't call it which is very annoying given the amount of HTB calls we had against us in the last. CONSISTENCY.

Thoughts?

The umpires cheated.......simple!

Adams should not try and kick the ball like Bucks use to.......simple!
