I have no reason to believe your claim. Name names or shove off.

I'm going to have to agree with this, no-one is suggesting that Swans players have never taken drugs or partied hard, just that if they did, it's highly unlikely to have been on the same level as that Eagles team of '06.

There's a difference in cultures between WCE & us over that premiership era which I think leads me to believe while WCE players utilised more performance enhancing drugs (if any) we would not have (if any).

The info that's come out about that WCE team (e.g. arrests) leads me to automatically think drugs that get guys up & going for training or a game (steroids, coke, ice etc) and their "party" culture really pushed for mega fit players able to rage on if required.

On the other hand, based on what I know of our culture & from the bits of info I know about that team, our boys more than likely liked a drink (read Kennellys book as an example) & I have no doubt there'd be some lads who would've liked to blow off some steam in other ways. But ultimately our culture and remaining professional was at the forefront of the players minds. I don't think we'd have utilised drugs in a performance enhancing capacity like I associate with the WCE team of the same period.

That's all just my opinion of course and I'd be surprised if drug use was as massive as some would have us believe. Then again, I'm not ignorant enough to think it doesn't happen (even at our own club) at all. In this day & age the players have more pressure placed on them than ever before so are probably more stressed. At the same time, they can't go for a walk without it going online or in the papers.

Okay, so it's not drugs that taints a premiership, it's taking drugs at a higher level than our team?

Who are some father-son and academy players who could be off-limits?Mills was a standout on tour, and would be the favourite for No.1 right now if not for already tied to the Sydney Swans as an academy prospect. The prolific midfielder is tough, hard, and willing to crash his way into a pack to find the ball.

He'll be a great addition to the Swans even if the academy bidding system changes and costs them more than just their first pick.
As for the father-sons, the most interest will be in Josh Dunkley, who is eligible to join the Swans, where his dad Andrew played. Dunkley is going to wait until later in the year to make a decision on if he wants to nominate for the Swans or enter in the open draft.

I am really looking forward to getting Mills but also really worried about what is going to happen with Dunkley.

If we named our "Best Clubman" award after someone who was a heavy user of illegal drugs, which killed him, then I'd accept we have a drug culture at the same level as them.

I wouldn't describe either flag as tainted myself. Personally I think we would have won '06 regardless if we were good enough, same could be said of the Eagles in '05. (Just my opinion, others may disagree.) I've got no doubt that some guys in our team back then went pretty hard, BUT if you're going to mount the argument that the '05 flag was tainted due to alleged drug use by members of the team, you're going to have to provide a bit more evidence to back up your claim, otherwise don't bother. Given the info that's come out about the WCE team of that era I'd find it hard to believe that we would have a problem with drugs to quite the same extent as them, but hey that's just me.

I don't, I think it's a moronic argument that a team' s flag is tainted by recreational drug use by some of their players.

A good mate of mine new quite a few of them when he was based in the SAS over there and he told me quite a few stories of these rats. Poor Ben Cousens was the only one that came out with what he did himself. Anyway we know about them, we have NO evidence of the Swans and I couldn't care if they got pissed for a month after the 05 flag, I know I did !

Recreational drugs yes, though some would argue they can give players an edge by helping you get up for games, etc. Personally I'm skeptical about the performance benefits when it comes to team sports since winning a grand final depends on other factors like match-ups, decision-making, accurate goalkicking but I understand where the argument comes from.

I just thought of a way where the Swans could be even more hated than we are now.

McVeigh and Jack could really start abusing the rule that states a captain at any time can call for a head count of the opposition so every time the opposition seem to be getting a roll on and the Swans need a couple of minutes to get their composure back McVeigh or Jack could go to the umpire and request a head count of the opposition as they think the opposition has too many players on the field :)

ICE will give you the strength of 5 people

I know that you would know this better than most, so I respect your contribution. Drugs like ice have no place in society let alone professional sport.
