Those coaches didn't rate Mitchell or Hewett either. We'd have won the flag two years ago had we kept them.
It's taken them years (and getting flogged in a GF) to realise we needed senior mids in depth to win it all? 🤦‍♂️

I back about half a dozen big footy posters over our coaches tbh.

Mitchell sure he has been better than most of our mids

Hewett nah

Unfortunately Horse will leave a legacy that partly includes plyers he was biased against and those he was overly loyal towards.

Under his watch we have recruited and despatczhed six players who won Premierships elesewhere. This year one ex won a BnF while two others finished top five.

Meanwhile he has repeatedly privileged with selection players who were cooked (eg Jack JPK) or consistently under performing players eg Hayward, Reid, Rohan (til even Horse saw the bleeding obvious). Rowbottom is another, despite his tackling efforts.

I believe he is on his last hurrah as coach. The trades suggest a much needed urgency and realism about how rubbish our midfield is.

There's some truth to favouritism or those who fell out of favour, but some of this is off the mark.

None of Jetta, Nankervis, Cameron, Mitchell were "dispatched". Jetta returned home, Nank went for opportunity (he was rightly behind Naismith and Tippett at the time), Cameron same (rightly behind Sincs, and when Sincs went down, so did Cameron). Mitchell may have had beef with Horse, but he was played every game in his final year.

Rohan was dispatched, rightly so, you can't use him both ways. Biggs I'm not sure anyone saw coming. Aliir was a blunder, no doubt, same with Hewett.

Not going to bother getting into JPK and Rowy again.

Ok, now that our trades are done (great work by the club and us BF experts [emoji13]), who should we now draft with what picks?

mods, can we set up a voting system?
Plenty of this in the draft thread. We'll probably have 1 live Pick (Pick 12 atm). Some say best available, but those of us who are definitively correct, think a KPP like O'Sullivan, ZZ, Murphy, Archer Reid. Then match whatever bid on Cleary.

So, I noticed a very curious comment by Kinnear yesterday that may have escaped some attention (I'm not sure, I'm avoiding the trade and draft thread). When asked whether we were done for trade period he said (and I paraphrase): pretty much but we might try to tinker and get our second pick forward a bit. Now this strategy sits completely at odds with bidding for Caiden Cleary since the pick would just be swallowed up matching a bid and it would cost us points to move our second pick forward. What gives? Any one got any theories? My best one would just be that it's Kinnear sowing some misinformation - but I'm not convinced with my own theory.

As regards our first pick, since O'Sullivan will be gone, I agree with the consensus that we should grab a KPP. Another name that I would add to the mix (along with Murphy etc.) is Schoenmakers.

OK, I've thought about this some more and come up with another theory that I like better: perhaps we're trying to get inside the bid for Cleary, and we'll hold off doing the trade until draft night so that we don't get caught with our pants down if there is an earlier than expected bid for Cleary. Say we traded our two third rounders (currently picks 45 and 55) for Hawks' pick 33 because Hawks will need points to match the bid for McCabe. Perhaps we have to throw in our future 3rd as well. That pick 33 will come in by about 4 selections after Gold Coast's 4 earlier picks get eaten up matching bids to, say, pick 29. Depending on how the draft goes that might be enough to get an extra selection before Cleary and take someone like Archer Reid or Mitch Edwards (both of whom seem to be sliding) or George Stevens or whoever.

Thoughts? Can anyone explain why else we might be trying to improve our second draft pick?

Sounds about right. Reid would be a good target IMO as he may take a few years but looks to have a lot of upside.

Whales jumping all over the place here at Kiama!
🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳

Yesterday arvo at Malabar I had the best whale sighting I've had with a mother and calf and the calf jumping out of the water over and over as, over about half an hour we watched them cruise from north to south, coming about 50 metres out from the cliffs we were standing on top of so we had some great views. :)
