Just realised that 5 of our next 7 games are away...bit of an anomaly in the draw! Also think it's a big bonus getting to play the Tigers at the 'G the week before we play the Hawks there...should give us a good chance at getting used to the bigger playing surface.

this could have been requested by the club. i know a few years back they were questioning the AFL why they only got to play 1 or 2 games there in the regular season before we had to play hawthorn there in the finals. may have even been 2014 GF. as you said, it gives the boys a chance to adjust to the bigger ground before we play Hawks and finals there.

Yes, I get that booing former players is a "right" enjoyed by AFL fans for decades.

BUT........

1. Lewis Jetta is a Premiership Blood. There are only about 40 of those in the world. He was a key part of the 2012 Premiership, and gave us the tackle on Dangerfield and the burn off of Rioli that are so much a part of the memories of that finals series.

2. Jetta didn't leave for more money, he left for family reasons. Footballers are drafted, bought and sold like cattle. Who would begrudge a young father moving to an employer closer to family to raise his children?

3. It was inevitable that booing Jetta would give the rednecks who justified booing Goodes yet another pathetic alibi for their disgraceful conduct over the last 7 or 8 years.

FFS I cringed every time Jetta got the ball listening to the booing. And it wasn't once or twice it was the whole match. You were booing a young man who had made a decision in the best interests of his family. He didn't move from South to Carlton for money.

Just because every moron from other clubs sees it as their right doesn't mean we Swans supporters have to claim that "right". It doesn't mean we have to wear that same badge of ignorance as everyone else. We can actually be better.

If any group of supporters should have gained any insight into the potential effects of mob behaviour such as this it is us. We alone are the ones who have witnessed the ugly howling of abuse directed at one of our champions over a protracted period. We are the ones who should have turned our mind to the potential difference between the foundation of the booing and how that might have been received by the player. We should have turned our minds to factors such as mental health of footballers. We should appreciate that among us there would have been racists delighting in the opportunity to "boo an abo", however small that minority might have been.

Just because we think we have a right to do something, doesn't mean we have an obligation to do it. We should know there are broader factors at play.

All we ended up doing was look like a bunch of Collingwood/Hawthorn/North/Eagles supporters.

What an achievement!

Maybe we learn from it and not give it the exposure. Otherwise it will just build and build. Sound familiar ?

I think there's a difference between booing a player on the off occasion (e.g. First game back at his old home after leaving). Same as when an umpire makes a massive howler that means your team loses the game. Same as when an opponent right hooks and knocks unconscious a player of yours.

The difference with Goodesy was that it was an abnormal, sustained, continual attack over an extended period of time. It was clear this was more than booing a player who had just done something wrong or who had wronged another player or club. This booing was at a level we have never seen.

I doubt Jets will be booed at any significant difference to any other player that left the club after seemingly giving no effort and putting up pathetic performances before heading off. If it sustained, continual and above and beyond that most players are subjected to then there may be something in it. Of course you get some morons who have nothing better to do than be racially motivated idiots. But I didn't see the level of hatred toward Jets that Goodes copped. It was more a bit of banter with him if anything else IMO.

** I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying I can't see how you compare it to the Goodes situation.

I'm not. I just don't see why we felt the need to be like all the other dickheads and boo a Premiership Blood who made a decision for the good of his family.

We didn't want him, shit attitude is why and we needed a ruckman, so we win

I can understand that mate. I'm not overly eager to boo a player that's played for us. Particularly a premiership player. I never booed Bazza, Demps, Schnids, Jesse... Even Rocca.

Jets made a call & I respect him for representing the club. But the booing directed at him I can understand & I don't think it was the result of malice, anger or spite. It was more from the "welcome back, just letting u kno you aren't 1 of us today. Alls fair in love, war & footy".

Hopefully he wasn't impacted negatively by it & took it in his stride & for what I think it was meant as. A bit of banter or a light hearted ribbing more so than anything spiteful.

That's all fine. So why boo him?
Because its got to do with footy, not race related. It's been happening for years with players playing against their old team. If I get a chance i'll boo him. Shit I won't be able to boo the cheat in Stevic

Why are we so bad at producing our own ruckmen?

Pyke, Mumford, Tippett, Ball, Seaby, Jolly, Everitt... not one successful big man drafted by us.

Pyke not developed by us?
