I think will win the Flag and Melican with have an impact like AJ did , plus T Mitchell for All Aus.
Reid will have his best year to date as a defender and BJ will cement a spot as a small forward :D

Not drunk just dreaming

Being honest not that unreasonable at all.

AJ came out of nowhere and had a breakout season in 2012, Reid has provided some crucial game saving moments in defence (Mark against Freo and over the top spoil against Port).

BJ needs to show something in 2015 otherwise he might not be on the list for 2016.

Mitchell is quality we all know that.

Fairly positive observation Punts :D

You were going fine all up until the "small forward" thing. I wish Horse would play 1. Just 1. Can't see it, although who knows.

I was fully onboard..... until you mentioned Brandon Jack, I think he's got no show

I started typing that Mellican can do an AJ in my prior post but lost confidence and deleted it. I don't want the pressure put on him but I honestly do think he could play round 1

Where does all this talk of Grundy leaving come from? Has there actually been any statements from himself/management/the club that would suggest this?

I just dont get it. The same speculation occured when we were trying to get the tippett trade done and he refused to be a part of any trade, even to his home state.

What has changed in the last 24 months? It makes no sense. Im convinced he will stay a swan and retire a swan.

I think he'll see the writing on the wall TBH. We've brought in 3 or 4 KPP's (and at a pinch you would consider Reid and Derickx as further options) over the last couple of drafts, he knows we're planning for changes in the back half. It's his chance for a decent pay day and with the competition and our cap issues he's unlikely to get it here, I wouldn't begrudge him the move. I just don't particularly want him to go in the same year as Ted... but that might be inevitable

I can see the headlines...

"BJ blows spent Hawks".

We were blown off the park by the Swans' BJ, claimed veteran Luke Stodge. Most of us were blown in the first quarter. Seriously, nobody expected BJ could be that hot. He sucked our players in and left us gasping. We always look forward to a hot encounter when we come up to Sydney but that BJ was something else. For a young guy he sure takes a big load, working both ends and contesting hotly for balls. The way he worked us, getting in an under, he was blowing hard but even when he went down he was still getting on top of us. To our credit our players kept coming, but in the end we were all spent. Brandon Jack's just as good as anyone I've played with, declared a red-faced Stodge in the dressing rooms.

I don't agree with that. Yeah sure he might not get as much as going to a GWS or Dogs but ultimately he'll get paid fairly I believe. If he did decide to leave he'd have to factor in giving up working at a successful club while we have some superstar players around (Bud, Tip, JPK etc). He could be giving up another premiership for a wooden spoon. Giving up working in one of the best defensive set ups in the AFL to carrying a shambles around Australia getting flogged. I suppose that could be motivation (the challenge) but I suspect he'll be paid what he's worth and the club won't try to screw him. So if he wants to stay and show his loyalty to the club I can't see how he's unlikely to get what he wants (or close enough to it anyway). I also haven't heard of any of our players having major issues with contract terms unless another club is willing to throw them something we can't offer (e.g. become VC, game time or a heap of $$$). In this case, I can't see any of those clubs offering up anything we couldn't match and be willing to match to retain him. I don't think games would be an issue for him considering he'll be the general when Teddy leave. I doubt he'll be given a VC or C incentive at a bulldogs or GWS anytime soon. Likewise I doubt they'd forgo rewarding the Dixons of this world so they could pay out Reg's last few years instead. Their current crop of defenders would be right at that stage where they'll need to be rewarded after taking a hammering for the last few years as their sides start winning.

I suppose we'll see won't we?

It's all very quiet he hasn't put pen to paper and is out of contract at the end of this season it smells like Mal, Mumford scenario.

A lot can change in 2 years he is approaching 30 and looking for a final contract in his playing career GotTheGoodes a successful club wasn't enough to keep Mal either.

Off-season would of been ideal to put pen to paper on a new deal unless his manager is fielding offers.

Disagreeing with an opinion isn't a troll. Anywhere around Sydney in the 05/06 off season you could see more than a handful of premiership players who had more than a drink. I don't get why this is such a massive issue with some of you. Do you honestly believe that there isn't drug usage in a team made up mostly of 18-30 year old young men with a lot of money away from the media spotlight?

There was also one player in the '90's who would have made Jason D. (Sydney Celebrity) look like he was snorting Fizzy. I am not going to name him of course but all the older members will know who he is. Yet he still managed to do a pretty fine job. his drug of choice, the same as most of the West Coast boys starting with 'C' and known on the streets as Snowy.

It's obviously a combination of things. His last contract but also he didn't have to relocate too far (the GC isn't exactly the worst place to live I wouldn't think either). Furtehr they gave him the VC badge and said "lead our young lads".

In comparison, I don't see Reg getting the same media that Mal gets. He's simply nto as highly rated. He didn't get his face plastered all over that 2012 GF winning snap. Mal is simply a defender more clubs would pay much more for than they deem Reg is worth. For what it's worth I think Reg is well underrated and is (particularly with Mal leaving) a vital cog in our defence and with Ted & Shawy both leaving will become the general along with Smitty. His value to us is more than his value to any other club IMO.

Recreational drugs yes, though some would argue they can give players an edge by helping you get up for games, etc. Personally I'm skeptical about the performance benefits when it comes to team sports since winning a grand final depends on other factors like match-ups, decision-making, accurate goalkicking but I understand where the argument comes from.

As someone who worked for an NGO and dealt with Drug & Alcohol issues in that capacity I agree with you. Speed, Coke or the uppers as people call them are more likely to cause heart palpitations, increased blood pressure (more than normal) and paranoia in a game of Aussie rules. These are the drugs they are accused of using, Coke or E's being the drug of choice in those days. Ecstasy may increase your adrenalin and stamina but it has the unfortunate side effect of making you horny. VERY HORNY! I doubt there is one player who would be game to use this during a game. They might get a proposition they might not necessarily want. HAHAHA

It's a thread for topics that don't warrant their own thread, so it isn't off-topic. Just think of it as like the random thread, but for Swans-related discussion.

The point is he won't get as much at Sydney as he will at GWS, Dogs, Saints, Suns, Lions, Crows, Wretchmond (after they lose Rance they will be offering heaps) who all need backs. We won't be able to match any of those sides. So if he gets an offer he will be gone.
