It's a thread for topics that don't warrant their own thread, so it isn't off-topic. Just think of it as like the random thread, but for Swans-related discussion.
I just said why did have to be, I didn't say off topic at all. What happened back then is history, lets just hope none of ours is doing it now and if they are I hope they get caught

Honestly if Grundy gets an offer of 400K for 3 years at Richmond.

...all the best to him.
How is he not worth that considering what Reid is paid to do very little?

Where did this idea of trading Grundy come from? Really can't see him going anywhere as he is crucial to our structure. Just because someone is coming off contract doesn't mean they'll leave.

Rumors a while ago he was not happy with his pay pocket.

Anyways it just seems odd a critically important player was not signed up in the off season.

Don't remember that. Was it BF speculation or actual rumours?

Someone with a source brought it up.

Fair enough, I probably just missed it. Anyway I think we would be inclined to meet his demands given key defenders don't grow on trees, but we'll see.

Reid is horribly overpaid, you can't use him as a meaningful comparison.
1) Yes I can, and did
2) The average AFL salary for a non 1st/2nd year player is $340,000. $400,000 isn't that much above average

Not trading, hoping the AFL don't kill off the compensation picks before the end of the season

SO in two years time we'll have no Mal, no Ted & no Shaw... AJ hopefully back firing along with Smith, Rampe and a combination of Rohan/Jones/Macca. Reg is vital for our set ups and structure. He'll be paid to be the "general" down there and deservedly so. I'm looking forward to him taking on more responsibility and building himself into that leadership role that Ted seemingly is filling at the moment.

Nobody is talking about trading him at all. You missed the point entirely. What we are saying is that come time to renew his contract, this year, he will probably get some very good offers. Most of them we won't be able to match due to salary cap considerations. So the likelihood of him taking a retirement fund contract is quite high. That is all we are saying.

RW the fact is he hasn't signed a new contract and that always creates conjecture. His contract expires at the end of this year and we normally shore up our players with one year to go, preseason. He hasn't signed and there is no talk of a new contract. Work it out, he is hedging his bets. If we can match them sure we may keep him but if not? We have drafted for that possibility, with at least one player almost ready for the big time. We also have Aliir who isn't far away anyway. I reckon if Aliir had played the NEAFL GF we would have shit on them.

So then where is the conjecture regarding our Co-Captain Kieran Jack who is also out of contract at the end of the season, there has been no talk of a new contract? I think its more a case of 2+2 = 5 with Grundy so far, we haven't even started re-signing any of the out of contract players for there to be any talk other than guess work. Yes he might leave, maybe he won't

It is a worry that Buddy's knee does not seem right as he is not going to be playing in the Aboriginal All Stars game.

He never plays exhibition games. Probably just using an "injury" as an excuse.

He also skipped the Indigenous All-Stars game a few years ago against Richmond, as well as International Rules two years in a row.

No id be more worried if he played in meaningless fixtures

No it hasn't, there are still basics in footy
Seems the concept of "and" rather than "or" may be unfamiliar to you. It is entirely logical that the game has evolved to the point where the basics "and" more sophisticated rotational defence can and must coexist. Time to move on from 1976 thinking.
