In 2014 Bird deserved his spot in the team a lot more than Jack did.
Jack was better than Bird in almost every area that exists. Clearances, tackles, goals, goal assists, contested possessions, marks, Brownlow votes, Skilton votes (where he finished 4th just behind Franklin)

To restate the most important part of that analysis - he finished 4th in the Bob Skilton Medal count.

We're a foundation club. Hawthorn are an interstate expansion team
Who endured 10 wooden spoons until the league started redistributing gate takings from the top teams and sliced off a large section of St Kilda's peninsula zone to give to them as a country zone.

But of course, all their success has been entirely off their own backs on an even playing field and it's unthinkable that their money gets redistributed now.

And their top talent are most definitely not priority picks :p

I also recall jack being injured for most of 2014. Bird was only injured towards the end.

And he started as sub , while that cat was on

How many games do people see Naismith and Nankervis playing this year?

Last year when Pyke did his quad around mid season and missed 4/5 Derickx filled ine, tho later in the year when Pyke was rested Naismith got his debut out of the way. (Something I think Longmire has shown he learnt from the mistakes of Paul Roos - I.e Currie's 5 years of reserves)

So no doubt Pyke's one of our most important come finals and we will need him in top condition. I haven't looked to much at the fixture but I do hope Longmire has and has some specific game or stage of the year in mind to give Mike a rest and hand some experience to the young rucks, just as imo they should do with Ted Richards and give his brother or Aliir some top level exp.

There is also the possibility of playing Pyke plus N/N and sub one of them off ala Hale/Bailey with Pyke playing mostly forward. Tho for that to work it couldn't be while Buddy, Goodes, Reid and Tippett are all playing mostly forward already. So maybe if Reid was in def, or one of the others we're injured they should consider this. Pyke's such an effective forward.

I would like to see them both get some game time, but I suspect it won't happen for either of them without injuries to two of Tippett, Pyke and DRex. We are probably just training them up to play for another club and then suffering when our current rucks retire / leave.

After losing a grand final, you have to set your sights firmly on the following season, rather than the future so their challenge is to make their performance demand selection.

We have made no change to the captaincy for the 2015 season.
I think it will be important to have a new captain for the 2016 season to freshen things up.
I nominate Luke Parker.
He is the one player I can remember doing multiple brave acts regularly in games.
A very simple decision to make by the club.

The true leaders are those who stood up under immense fire, when all around them crumbled. Franklin and Kennedy are top of that list

I don't mind the dual captain thing. However Ideally you'd have different players who have different attributes, roles, styles, demeanours etc etc. Which is why I didn't mind the Goodes/Macca combo.

Then saying that, I actually really like Macca & Kizza as captains though. So Macca get's harassed on here for pointing fingers and both get run over coals for giving PR-driven responses post losses etc. As far as I can see though both lads put in 100% and love the club. What more could you want than a captain willing to give everything for the club he honestly loves/breathes/lives?

Talking post Kizza/Macca though, in the future, I'd love to see Parker as Captain. Also wouldn't hold it against the club if they ended up looking at Smith either. I rate both fairly highly in terms of performance (leading by example) but they also seem to have the respect of the playing group as strong leaders already and at such young stages in their careers.

I am Long time Swans fan from melbourne but will be in Sydney for Easter arriving the Thursday before Easter and will be at the game against Essendon seconds. Does anyone know if it is possible to watch the Swans train at the SCG on the Thursday or Friday before the game?

There's 2 training sessions a week. The first one is open and the second one is closed (and if it's at ANZ, will probably be at ANZ). For most games, the first training session held 4 days before the game and second session held 2 days before the game.

Don't like burdening young players with captaincy. Parker plays well above his years but I'd wait a few. Kennedy would be a great candidate

I vote Bird for captain. About the right age. Wears the No. 14. What he lacks in skill he makes up for in grim determination (aka, Kirk). Consistently brave, talks the talk, walks the walk and never ever points.

Things I will never fathom is why do I engage in discussing anything swans relates on the main board.

Arguments are either not backed by facts, ignore facts or purely indecipherable.

Maybe I am a sadist.

I think you mean masochist. You go there because you like to dress in rubber, have yourself tied to a frame and whipped.

Aaah, reminds me of my school days.
