Grimes from Melb is a FA that could be had for a baragin i think. Brown from WC also in that list, If we feel like signing an injury room buddy for Reid.

Anyone here keen on either? Grimes a former captain albeit not a winning one could provide leadership to a developing backline when ted goes, and hes only 26.

Brown is decent enough when fit

Just throwing it out there, what do we think

grimes can't make it into a melb team as a small defender...

both the brown brothers are massively overrated and neither is any better than talia.

Ted couldnt get into the bombers team, and we are the masters of turning unrequired players into stars. So i dont see that as an issue.

As for Brown i rate him a better defender than Talia when fit. From what ive seen anyway.

In my opinion, a fit Gary Rohan is best 22 every day of the week. He has serious weapons but is a confidence player more so than most...get him back in as soon as possible and give him a chance to build his confidence so that he is firing for the back half of the season.
Rohans problem is that he keeps getting injured just as he's starting to string a few games together and gaining confidence. At the time of his leg break he was really starting to hit his straps. I was hoping that last year was going to be his year but was left disappointed. I'm starting to think that he'll never reach his full potential due to that bloody broken leg (thanks Thomas you worm).

I agree with this and I believe it would have been a large part of the reason for putting him on the LTI and essentially giving him his own pre-season. Hopefully now he will be in ripping condition physically when he returns and will be able to impact games straight away which will no doubt enhance his confidence and hopefully lead to him playing some really impactful games for us later in the season.

Just want to put it out there since we don't really have any transfer discussion/rumour/fantasy threads yet. Knowing the fact that the players didn't active pursue banned substances, and certainly didn't intend to check, but have suffered irreversible reputation damage, changes in scenery would do them a great deal of good.

Of the currently banned Essendon players, I would want Sydney to active chase the following:
  • Dyson Heppell would be great as that Winger/Forward flanker. We have plenty of run in the midfield, but this guy would add a lot of class and good disposal forward of centre.

  • Michael Hurley would be an excellent addition as the 2nd tall and allow Michael Talia to play as the 3rd tall since Richards will probably retire the end of the season. It frees everyone else up to play on opponents more their size and return us to that formidable, near impenetrable defensive setup.

I don't think we should chase Cale Hooker since we already have one guy that can defend well but can't kick a ball worth a shit.

The club won't be restricted with trading anymore and certainly won't have the salary cap restrictions or TPP constraints. Not saying we should throw $1m at either player because that would be absurd (and if someone does, good luck to them!), but I'm sure we could get both players for combined less than $1.2m/season.

I really hope the Swans chase after another mid & defender at the end of this season, we'll need them in the next couple of years as Kennedy and Jack start winding down.

Thoughts?
I agree, especially re Hurley, but I doubt that we will be able to get a big name at the end of the year. We need to drop that final $600k from our COLA so I would expect us to be very short on dollars to spend. The only other way would be to trade someone out which could be worthwhile as we need a KPD more than a midfielder for example.

Keiran jack for Phil Davis? Isnt there word of him being shopped to gws? Not sure how it would work but as much as we love him that would improve us more than keeping Kizza

Has anyone else wandered over to the other boards when their academies were announced? Was kinda funny reading as they tried to figure out how it all works. Made me feel all old and jaded like:p
And then they kept trying to come up with ways to rort it, y' know that thing they've been accusing us of doing for last couple of years.

The most important thing to remember is supporters of other teams are flogs.

Carlolton want Tom Mitchell. Let's swap him for that Weitering kid. :thumbsu:

(Love Tom, don't want to see him go).
Seriously, Weitering is one of very few players I'd accept for Tommy, not only in Carlton's squad, but in the league. He'll be fantastic
EDIT: Probably should add "realistic options". I'd probably take Nat Fyfe for him haha

Weitering is untouchable.

Carlton don't have many serviceable players that would be attainable.
We already took Laidler :)

Someone like Docherty wouldn't be bad.

Yeah, a decent young rebounder would be good. Then could finally move Mills into the midfield.
But a KPD is needed more right now.
