I'd be surprised if Hurley didn't meet with every club, as well as Hooker and Heppell.

I wouldn't be. I could see the players telling their manager I want to play in this state. get me the best deal. Cant see them shopping themselves over australia to be honest.

I get where you are coming from, but I think Punts had a valid point too, a broken leg is one of the toughest injuries to come back from.

N. Brown from Richmond is the prime example. He was half the player he was when returning. the severity of Rohan's break was similar. Though not as bad as N. Browns as that was probably the worst thing I have seen. I hate breaks.

I don't think it's a matter of talking about trading Mitchell away. I think it would be madness to trade him unless you could get a Gary Ablett/Chris Judd sort of trade out of. Trading Mitchell for Hurley isn't that sort of deal.

It's nonsensical suggesting that Rohan/Reid/Mitchell are in the same boat. One has struggled to hold down any place in the team, one has been ordinary for the best part of 30 months, and the other is a legitimate top 50 player in the league (the other 2 aren't). Contract wise, Rohan earns less than the other two, but then his value is less than the other two anyway, and same for Reid when compared to Mitchell.

What has better trade value at the moment? A tall forward that's fast and athletic when there's a dearth of those types of players, or an inside mid who can't really kick the ball, when there's already plenty of those floating around.

The entire purpose of talking about trading Mitchell is in the context of what do we have to trade in order to get what we want.
Rohan, Reid & Mitchell are in the same boat primarily because they are out of contract coupled with each of them having varying degrees of potential (to fill holes in the list of another club) depending on who you speak to.
Of the players that are out of contract (or in the last year of their contract) the one with the most trade value is Mitchell. You can't on the one hand say he is worth so much that we would be mad to trade him then in the next breath claim Reid & Rohan would be better to trade.

IF we are going to trade for a KPD we are NOT going to get one for nothing, we will need to give up something. It is glaringly obvious that we have a gross deficiency in that area. Given that everyone else has been locked in for the long term AND given how highly OTHER CLUBS will value Mitchell it would NOT be a silly idea to trade Mitchell IF we get what we want.
The same applies to Reid, the difference is that we don't have 3 or 4 other players with his skill set on our list on long term deals.

If you put up a poll I reckon at least 75% of people on this board would trade Mitchell for Hurley. IMO that would be an absolute no brainer of a trade, wouldn't need to think about it twice.

Pretty sure we wont need to trade for Hurley if we want him. Im pretty sure the AFL have already stated that those banned players can make themselves DFA if they wish. The only reason we would trade a player would be to make salary cap room to sign Hurley. In that case we trade whoever it may be to the highest bidder.

Create that poll and let's see if people are happy to throw away the son of a club legend.

Those 2 aren't the only players who've broken their legs. Players break their legs not only in AFL, but in other sports and come back just as good, if not better, so don't trot that nonsense out in defence of him. He's better now than he was before, and he certainly doesn't look like, or play like he has any fitness issues from that injury.

Sometimes he plays bruise free and that's a mental symptom, not a physical symptom. And lets not forget, this was 4 years ago and he was a teenager when he did it, Brown was not. If you want to compare players across leagues with similar injuries, compare him to Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal who had his leg pretty much snapped in half. 2 years later, he was the best midfielder in the English Premier League, and considered one of the best in the world (right now he's a bit shit but that's a different matter).

The treatment the players receive is significantly different to what joe smith receives at the hospital and his weekly visits to his physio. Having a doctor permanently near by helps, as well as virtually unlimited access to medical facilities and treatments that most mere mortals could only dream when they suffer an injury like that. So when you or I suffer an injury and it takes us 2 years to recover from, most AFL players are already back and active long before then, since the speed of their recovery is significantly boosted by around the clock care.

But since we're trotting out injuries to excuse someone who's really just not up to it, a few games aside (like that prelim vs North), let's compare him to a few players who've suffered breaks, or other serious injuries: Luke Parker, Kieran Jack, Malceski, literally anyone who's had their hamstring tendon ripped from their bone, Menzel, Adam Goodes (played through 2 PCLs) list goes on and that's just off the top of my head.

If we're going to use injuries to excuse a player who's never performed consistently, or proven themselves AFL standards, let's pick a better injury, like his arm or legs falling off, not something that he has already recovered from.

But aside from that, it's like using my sports injury and comparing it to his, and determining that he's having a hard time, because I've had a hard time within the last 15 years. It doesn't make sense.

Which players can you tell that came back after there tib and fib was snapped in half and come back playing with a rod from ankle to knee , ( not scoccer injuries please ) it's nothing like having a plate put in if that's whst you think
Bruise free footy lol , if anything rohan is stupid somtimes in the way he attacks the ball

Acls and hamstring tears are nothing like having metal in your leg

Rohan plays bruise free? I would have thought his problem was the complete opposite - he has no fear. He runs in to guys at a thousand miles an hour and hurts himself.

As for the bold bit, that never happened. Yes, Ramsey did return to form after his leg break, but two years after his broken leg he wasn't up there with Toure, Bale, Hazard, Mata, Silva, etc.

Rohan was less than 2 months short of 21 when he broke his leg and missed over 14 months of football as a result of the broken leg, only just making it back in time for 2013 Finals where he was used as a lead up forward and not the half back/wing he was drafted to be. To miss the best part of two seasons effects any players development.

Now I can see where CC is coming from to a point, he has never really developed into the player we thought he would become - before and after the injury. Yes he has at times shown signs he is a player on the edge of breaking out but either because of form, poor skills or most often injuries he has been held back and is the classic "what if" player. I also agree with CC that we should stop using the broken leg as an excuse as to why he keeps getting injured because while the injury indeed was a bad one, it is lost on many that Gary was injury prone with hamstring injuries before he broke his leg.

Now that we have players like Lloyd, Hewitt, Robinson pushing though with the likes of Mills and Heeney I can see why we would entertain the idea of a trade. I have thought about how we would fit him into our side without putting us off-balance and I think this could of played a role in him being put on the LTI. Lets him build a fitness base for a certain role in the side. But naturally I would be happy for him to come back to the NEAFL side first get a good block of games under his belt injury free and then after the bye bring him into the senior side and see if he can find the missing link to his game and contribute hopefully on a wing in the lead up to the finals with the speed he brings to the table. All going well, the need for a trade would be gone - if not the option has to be thought of.
I agree that Rohan should come back through the NEAFL to get some match fitness under his belt. But in terms of a potential trade, I think it'd be madness unless we were trading for someone with genuine pace. There are so few players of Rohan's size who have serious pace and he'd easily be our quickest player. We're not exactly blessed with speed and we lost Jetta last season. Yes he's had some hammy issues but when he is on the park I think he offers us speed, run and carry, and decent foot skills.

He certainly was, couldn't maintain it, more so because he's not that great, but during that run, as a midfielder, he was the best in the league. Barcelona came sniffing around for a while.

A few examples of him putting his head over it doesn't mean he plays it tough. Even Marc Murphy puts his head over it occasionally and he's widely regarded as being a bruise free footballer. Nothing wrong with that, and it's fine if he was consistent and reliably hurt the opposition. He doesn't, nor does he even look capable half the time.

Who gives a shit if he's got pace but can't really play football. Struggles as a leading forward, even when he shouldn't, and can barely play as a winger.

Just need to compare him to Crappy to see how far he could evolve, but will ultimately fall short of the mark.

I'd have him playing as a tagger in the magoos and force him to find the ball and play it tough for most of the year. Get some bloody bruises.

I'll leave the Ramsey stuff aside as it's off topic anyway.

As for Rohan, my opinion is the polar opposite of yours. I would love Rohan to play a little more bruise free!! Maybe then he'd stop hitting packs at full tilt and hurting himself.

I know we consider our club to be full of tough inside mid style footballers, but that's not what we want him doing. He's also not a lead up forward, although he did play OK in a couple of games in that position. We want Rohan playing between the 50m arcs, picking up the pass out of D50 and charging forward with speed before delivering I50. His foot skills are quite good, his marking is good, and his commitment to help out in defence has always been excellent.

I king of agree that Rohan hasn't come on and been the player we all hoped, but "bruise free" isn't an accusation i'd level at the guy. He's never shy of contact, and often goes in too hard for his own good. His late smash into Petrie last year, even though the game was lost, was a good example. He misses tackles, but that's not bruise free, that's just not being a great tackler.

The one knock on him is he runs out of gas so fast. Not just late in games, but even late in quarters. Fix that and he certainly has the ability, he just needs to put it together.

He's like that young kid from The Fast & The Furious who uses all his NOS speed boosts too early in the race...

I don't want to sound like a Rohan apologist here as I think some of the criticisms of his game here are justified, but I did find the bruise free comment ironic after his injury in the semi final last year from the head clash with Petrie, just saying.

Ideally, yes. However, his weakest position is winger, since he has to be capable of getting down and dirty in the midfield. Otherwise he plays as Towers does, a high half-forward.

There's the option to play him in the Jetta 2012 role - find some space and provide an outlet. Personally I don't have a problem with him on the wing as I think he's well suited to that position.

So he had a head clash, 1 of literally hundreds of players. I'm not asking him to play like Paul Bevan, but I'm certainly not asking him to be a squib like Lewis Jetta either. There has to be a happy medium, where he's expected to put himself about, where he can use his size and strength to his advantage. Often it looks like he just doesn't know how to do it, or what to do, which is extremely disappointing. I don't want him to play like an inside monster, but I'd like to see him play a bit more like Hanneberry and get at the ball, but also sit him down and have him watch replay after replay of Jetta's 2012 finals series and demand that he plays that way, with a bit more grunt.

Problems with Rohan:
- Lacks fitness (always)
- Average disposal
- Fatigues far too fast
- Lacks follow up efforts
- Poor tackler and very poor technique
- Indecisive decision making
- Poor defensively
- Game tends to pass him by

Good things about Rohan:
- Good over head mark
- Reasonably accurate shot at goal
- Great pace and can burst

Those attributes restrict him to playing forward pocket or forward flank. He won't be able to play as a midfielder until he can run both ways and has a decent tank. He certainly shouldn't play defence anymore since he was pretty bloody bad at it, and was totally shown up in the grand final.

I'd love it if we could get him to play that way, I'd even accept him as a bruise free footballer if he could have even half the impact that Jetta did. But he's becoming another Jesse White literally every time we play him. You don't know what effort you're going to get from him, even though he tries. You don't know what impact you're going to get from him, even though he's always out of position on his haunches. If he could learn to kick it like Jetta does, then great.

You're a tough judge chunky. I don't disagree with you entirely, but let's just see how he goes when he comes back.
