Re: Chris Masten

Trade 2nd pick and throw Reilly, Knights or Douglas and one of Sellar, Armstrong, Cook, etc with them.

Offer them a 2nd round pick and one of our delistings. I am sure they would jump at that:thumbsu:

Considering we got Tambling for a 2nd and 3rd rounder, we are going to offer less for a gun... If it was that easy we would of won 20 flags by now

Re: Chris Masten

For Griffen? Without hesitation I'd do that. That said I don't think he's ever coming back. If he didn't want to come home while his dad was terminally ill, and hasn't given any indication that his father's passing has made him want to be closer to his family, it's just hard to see him ever doing it.

I'd probably be willing to trade our first 3 picks and give up Talia if we could secure Griffen or Cooney plus Jack Redden. We need to win a flag in the next few years while Thommo, Truck and Stiffy are around. Otherwise I fear we could be waiting a while. Two quality versatile, ready to play mids would make a massive difference.

IF we were in premiership contention then I would agree. We are not. We need to rebuild not top up

This team, rejuvenated under a new coach and playing an attacking brand of football, could could easily challenge for a flag in the next 2-3 years:

Johncock Rutten Jaensch
Tambling Davis Otten
Mackay Thompson Redden
Porplyzia Walker Knights
Callinan Tippett Dangerfield

R: Jacobs Cooney/Griffen van Berlo

Int: McKernan Sloane Vince Smith

Selection options: Douglas Petrenko Henderson L Thompson Wright Martin

A 2nd round pick, a contracted played in our best 22 and a fringe player.

Griffen is not a top up, Griffen for us would be a game changer. Not only does he step up when needed, he takes the tag off whoever recieves it that week (generally thommo atm)

Re: Chris Masten

The chronicles of Luke Shuey showcase his skills. I don't think Masten has the same sort of skills.

Can you name me a list that potentially couldnt then? What list has less potential than ours?

Mitch Banner

Hey guys, just want to get everyone's thoughts on mitch banner ... this guy is in great form for the magpies averaging 25 touches and 4 tackles a game.

It seems he cant break into the powers 22. surely hes worth looking at good young midfielder can find the ball and would be cheaper to get than the likes of griff , cooney etc .... that's what the club should do target young mids that haven't made a name from themselves yet!

really like redden from the lions too. but hes untouchable i would say

thoughts?????

Re: Mitch Banner

I'd rather throw the kitchen sink at trying to obtain Redden than trying to buy it better at Banner.

Most of the clubs outside of the current top 4 look unlikely to win a flag in the next 2-3 years, but some will improve, players will blossom, injuries will occur, some will regress. Who knows with any certainty. But I honestly don't think our list is anywhere near as bad as our current ladder position, and results of last season suggest, and that's part of why I've reached the end of my support for Neil. An injection of quality, along with getting rid of a few perennial let downs, natural progression of some our existing talent, and a half decent run with injuries and I reckon even Neil would have us back inside the 8 next year.

I guarantee you, if Neil keeps his job he'd be aiming to win a flag within the next few years. It's just not his style to accept being rubbish year after year. But I don't think he has what it takes to make the cuts required, or to change his ways adequately. So in 3 years time we'll probably find ourselves no closer to a flag, with Thommo, Truck and Stiffy gone or in their last season, and with the Gold Coast and potentially GWS starting their charge.

Unless we're somehow guaranteed a total gun, plug and play, 100% can't miss midfielder at the draft, I'd be happy to trade for proven quality.

I wonder if Crows fans would ever consider Jordan Russell as a trade target?

He was targetted by the Power a number of years ago (admittedly when he wanted to return home) - however, we turned down their paultry Pick #39.

Carlton would ask a bit much for him I imagine.

He has some patches where you love him, and patches where you hate him. Curious player.

Port were one of the very few teams that were willing to take a chance with Mitch and his "character".

I think the fact that he has already changed SANFL clubs and can't get a game with Port Adelaide, after racking up best players nominations says a lot.

Re: Chris Masten

I agree with most that we dont need an "average player" we need to GO FOR BIG TALENT...yes eg Griffen, and possibly redden. And to throw it out there, someone like wellingham at the pies can easily be a top player for most clubs, he is just surrounded by guns.

Collingwood will find it hard to keep everyone now with the re-signings they have had.

Seriously, we need to offer up the "so called" star Talia, or get rid of a reilly or even sellar, etc.

JUST GET IT DONE,
A elite Mid with Thommo, Sloane and Danger can challenge anyone!

Never trade with Carlton again. Wasn't the endless dribble from their supporters enough over trade period??:p

There are enough young mids going around..Gold Coast won't be able to keep all of theirs, there are a couple of likely lads in the U18's like Wingard, Kennedy,Waldhunter and surely there are plenty of other likely types in state leagues that Rendell will have his feelers already working on.

Its going to be a couple of years before we can get anywhere near the top 4 teams so what is the point of selling the farm for a couple of mids.

The problem with players like that, is that they can look much better than they actually are because of the quality around them.

Murphy looks better because Judd is there taking attention from him.

Griffen in Collingwood's would look bloody amazing.

Not saying wellingham wouldnt be good for us.

Re: Chris Masten

Despite how talented a griffen or a Cooney. I rather look to the future and use say the pick 6 and 28. Griffen and Cooney could have 4-5 years good footy left. I would love for us to pick up our own SA stars.

Re: Brock McLean

For those who think Carlton are difficult to deal with then look at your own club. You could have had Andrew Walker if you hadnt insulted him and Carlton with such lousy offers last year.

Yeah because everyone thought he was going to be a super star at the end of last year
