That would be a straight swap, with no sweeteners required.

However, Tippett isn't going anywhere. Lock it in Eddie.

Maybe. I'm more concerned however if he does stay for next season and we get basically sweet all for him. Would rather put a season of development into Day and get him than for Day to tear it up next year in the big league and not get him. I want players who will be playing in our next premiership playing for us a soon as possible!

I reckon we'll get at least one more contract out of Kurt.

Wouldn't be surprised if he went home when free agency allowed it (depending upon our premiership threat position), but I think he'll stick around for a while yet.

Aside from mids, I don't think we have any huge glaring weaknesses anymore - we load up on mids in the next couple of drafts, a bit of canny trading where required, but I wouldn't trade a Knights or Douglas unless it was for a player who would instantly improve our team, and players like that are rarely on the table.

The glaring weakness is classy goal kicking mids. A small forward or two and a developing 200 cm ruckman. I know you may say the sub rule has mean we dont need many (pure ruck). However, Jacobs, Maric.....thats it now unless you want to include Tippett. Basically need three or four. Two ready to go and a developing one. Also we have mckernan as a back up with currently sellar and craig as back ups.

I think our most obvious weakness is lack of genuine A-graders. We've got Thompson and that's it. Vince and Dangerfield have that capability but are too inconsistent and Porps is always injured. We need to get some top 5 picks from somewhere over the next 2 years. As much as it pains me to say it, I think Port will rebound quicker than us - they are bombing out more dramatically and will receive better picks as a result. As pathetic as they have been, they actually do have guys with genuine talent (Boak, Gray, Hartlett, Butcher, etc). A decent coaching panel as well as AFL standard fitness and conditioning staff will help them tremendously.

I'm not suggesting we go into next year with a tanking mentality, but if it becomes apparent that we can't make the finals again, then we really need to say **** it and aim for draft picks. Finishing 10-14th again will get us nowhere.

Ben Kennedy...don't care how, or who we give up (within logic/reason). Just bite a bullet and do it.

Davis band two compensation would do it.

Do you mean Tippet would be a straight swap for Day?

No way, GC would want more for Day than just Tippet (whether he's actually worth it or not).

They wouldn't be getting it..

Tippett is a 50+ goal per year forward. They don't grow on trees. Day is an unproven kid, who has shown precisely zero at AFL level. Straight swap is definitely on the cards.

It doesn't matter what you or I think of the deal, it's more about what value GC believe they have in Day. He is nearly 6 years younger than Tippo so he's a 12 year player compared to a 6 year player (as a rough estimate of time frame).

Tippo is out of contract at the end of next year and has lots of rumour about contract out clauses and has also openly come out and said he wants to go back to the Gold Coast 'one day'. I reckon GC will feel they have the upper hand in the deal right from the start.

What's better than having Tippo in your team? Having Tippo and Sam Day!

Probably but i wouldn't be swapping day for Tipp unless he tells us he wants out. How many athletic freaks dont make it. Plenty. Kurt has the body and the runs on the board. Day could be jimmy seller mk 2 for all we know.

The fact he went a holiday instead of doing a preseason screams avoid to me. At least we know Kurt is commited to being the best footballer he can be. Day might run off and play baseball if the going gets tough.

I too would much rather keep Tippett than risk trading for a relatively unknown quantity in Day.

There's no chance of Tippett being traded this year. 2012 is a possibility (at his request), but in 2011 you can "lock it in Eddie".

Any trade worthy for Adelaide would be Tippett for Gorringe who can Ruck and play forward. Day has not produce any consistent quality only glimpses of potential IMO

My obvious hate aside.

In regards to Tippet and Day.
Your'e all saying you dont want it done because Day is a so far unproven. In reality isnt Tippet to? Yeah he had a good not great year in 2009. 50 goals is a pass mark for a key forward i think. The past two years have been very mediocre in comparison. Yeah there is a lot of upside there but there is to with Day. Day is also 5 or 6 years younger as well.

Can anyone name any dominant performance that Day has produced ever?

That's a serious question because I was a bit surprised last year leading up to draft time never really hearing that Day has dominated a game. For a top 3 pick you'd expect that he would have done it regularly against kids his own age. He was drafted that high not on performance but because he's an athletic freak with neat skills. I'd be worried giving up Tippett for him. I'd only do it if there was no convincing Tippett to stay.

So only 5 key forwards have got a pass mark this year? 3 of which were in top 4 sides (Franklin, Cloke, Kennedy), and the other two are the only real KPF target in their side (Hall & Jiewoldt)?

I am very wary of Day..like someone said he could turn out to be Sellar Mk 2. Athletic player and big bodied which may have made him look good in junior ranks. Scarey parallels.

If Tippett goes i would say Gorringe would be the one i want. Talented ruck, homegrown and can play forward. More similar to Tippett and would work well with Jacobs.

i'm not convinced we'd want similar to Tippett. Someone with a more defined position makes sense.

50 goals for a finals side is just over 2 a game. That is a pass mark, i stick by it.

Early days for the lad but Sam Day averages less than 3 KICKS per game, and he's bagged 2 majors in 7 games....

So wherever you put the pass mark, that's a long way short.
